How to beat the flu and build your immunity naturally

Did you know that washing your hands has the potential to save more lives than any single vaccine or medical intervention? There is the constant debate every year that you have to make: “Should I get the flu vaccine ?” When looking for ways to beat the flu and build your immunity naturally, research shows that clean hands and increasing fruit and vegetable consumption are the best ways to stay healthy during the flu season.

The perfect flu fighting prevention method is to wash your hands properly when ever you might come into contact with germs– especially before touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Here is what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has to say about washing hands:

When should you wash your hands?

  • Before, during, and after preparing food
  • Before eating food
  • Before and after caring for someone who is sick
  • Before and after treating a cut or wound
  • After using the toilet
  • After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet
  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste
  • After touching garbage

What is the right way to wash your hands?

Wet your hands with clean running water (warm or cold) and apply soap. Rub your hands together to make a lather and scrub them well; be sure to scrub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. Continue rubbing your hands for at least 20 seconds. Rinse your hands well under running water. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry.

So keep those hands clean and free of germs this flu season and if you have a child, teach them the Wash Them Clean Hands song! Need a natural immunity boost? Check out our immunity boosting smoothie recipe here.
