The worst cleanse I ever tried

Have you ever done an all-liquid cleanse? I tried one once… and it was the worst cleanse ever.

About five years ago, my husband and I tried doing this cleanse where you ONLY drink a mixture of water, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice for ten straight days. That’s it. Nothing else. No food. Not even iceberg lettuce. Just this awful drink.

Well, we didn’t make it to day ten of the cleanse. We hit a… roadblock of some sort.

I’m going to share the whole story with you in a video. If you can’t handle toilet humor, you probably don’t want to watch this. I did not hold back—  I just tell ya straight out how it all went down.

    OMG!! That is TERRIBLE, Jen! I watched the video and I’m glad I did. I’m also glad you were so honest in sharing your experience with that (scary) master cleanse. Can’t wait for your new book to come out and by the way: You look great!

    Proper/real science has proven time and again that there’s no such thing as “cleansing” your body, it does everything on it’s own and you can’t add or help that -BUT- you can eat/drink to add a “cleaner” element to your lifestyle and change your body with regards to fat, allergies, temper, nutrients and illness and having some nutrient dense smoothies can certainly assist in that area (plus they usually taste danged great 🙂 ).

    Hey Martin (and Jeff)— You can absolutely cleanse your body without losing weight. With our meal plans, weight loss typically happens just for those that need to lose weight. If you’re at a healthy weight already, then following our meal plans will encourage you along with recipes that will energize, nourish and detoxify. We use plant-based herbs like cilantro that binds to heavy metals in your body and help remove them— this is a natural detox method. We also remove most common allergens (like wheat, corn, dairy, soy) and give your body a chance to thrive on foods as close to nature as possible. This is usually a very powerful experience for Thrive Live members— they realize what foods were actually weighing them down and causing them to be sluggish— and finally have foods and drinks they can replace them for.

    NONE of that happened when I did the “Master Cleanse” a few years ago, worked fine, no cravings (after day 2), no poop issues before, during or after. Got rid of 10lbs and suggested others may want to try it, no biggie. That said I would not do it again, not because it doesn’t work or help BUT because I found “Soylent” and add that to my smoothies and feel that getting good nutrition is more important than dropping 10 in 10.

    I will be getting married this year in December month . I found your blog on google .Your smoothies receive is wonderful . i want some suggestion regarding my skin problem .i wanted to know that which smoothies is best for glow and brighten skin. I have some acne marks on my face . What should i do to overcome this problem?what should i follow and which diet is good for my skin ?Can u plz help me

    Hi Laxmi,

    Congratulations!! We love our smoothie brides + we hope we can help you feel + look great for your big day. If skin is your focus look for recipes with blueberries, cilantro, carrots, avocado, coconut water, and chia seeds. All of those ingredients are packed with skin goodness!
