The Clean Beauty Giveaway

It’s time to come clean, about your beauty routine. So many of us put great effort into living a healthy lifestyle – we eat our seasonal spring veggies from the farm, we practice yoga, we do cardio, we blend our green smoothies – but what about our skin? Our skin is our largest organ and it definitely deserves the same attention.

You absorb up to 60% of everything you put on your skin.

Not to scare you – but regulation on beauty products here in the US isn’t really rawkin’ it. In the US, there is no governmental task force inspecting chemicals and ingredients used in personal care items. Seriously, no one is looking to make sure your moisturizers, serums and makeup are safe for use. So ingredients like aluminum, found in antiperspirants, have free reign to run through your body, even though they’ve been scientifically linked to certain cancers, endocrine disruption and alzheimer’s disease. Yikes!

However, that’s not the case in other parts of the world. In Europe, over 1,300 toxic substances are banned from personal care products. In the United States, only 11 ingredients are prohibited by the FDA, with the last US cosmetic law being passed in 1938. So that means we need to take charge + do the research ourselves. Can’t rattle off all of the internationally banned substances? Us either!

That’s why we love Copal Clean Beauty – our friend + founder Jennie Fresa has done the work for us, creating a curated collection of new & noteworthy clean beauty brands for women nationwide. Copal was born out of a deepened desire to help all women make smarter choices with their cosmetics.

4 steps to transition to clean beauty

Thinking it’s time for you to make the change? Why not start here:

  • Simplify your beauty products and learn which ingredients to avoid.
  • Get informed. Download 2 helpful resources that will help you determine the safety of your products before you buy them: ThinkDirty and SkinDeep.
  • DIY: There are many products that can be made right at home. If you’re on a budget or if you like to get crafty, check out Mountain Rose Herbs on-line.
  • Prioritize: It can be very overwhelming to switch all of your personal care products all at once so don’t try it! Start with your skincare (cleanser and moisturizer). Then, your makeup (foundation and lipstick). Next body care: change your soap and deodorant. Hair care and other household items can come late.

What a great and sorely needed option for skin care products! I would love to find a good alternative to the many easy and often raved about toxic options in department stores, drug stores and on line. The product I would most like to switch over to a clean option is deodorant. I’ve been looking for a clean option without aluminum for sometime now but I can’t find one that works well enough to trust for regular use. Thanks for sharing the name of this brand and company. Looking forward to trying out a new option!

I am trying to transition to cleaner products, but it’s hard to do everything at once because I have found them to be somewhat expensive. I would love a moisturizer! I have yet to find one that works well for me.

I have switched almost all of my beauty products to 100% Pure, Lush, and Doterra. I am also currently making some of them, such as lotions, myself. I am, however, really struggling to find a foundation that works for me and would love to find a clean option!

Lifestyle changes! I’ve been following you guys and drinking green smoothies almost since you started your website/blog! It has fostered a transition to clean(er) eating and cleaner beauty products. I’ve used beautycounter, lush and others. I have even switched to all natural deodorant. As a health and neauty aid junkie, I’m always looking for new products to try and fall in love with. I guess I’d love to find a natural moisturizer that leaves my skin glowing!

I’m in the process of trying to find all new beauty products. That has been the area that had been the hardest to replace. If I had to choose one product, I would have to choose a good facial moisturizer.

I currently use coconut oil as a moisturizer for my face. I love Bath & Body Works’ sugar scrubs, shower gels, and lotions, but I would like to use more natural, clean products. I know I could probably make the sugar scrubs, and maybe even the gels and lotions, but I just haven’t taken the time to research it. I’d also like to find a natural deodorant that works. If I had to pick between the scrub or deodorant I’d pick the deodorant. Thank you!

I would like to find a shampoo that help me with my drandruff and very oily hair…. the only time hay seems to kindly help is heavily non-natural but if I try anything else my hair doesn’t like it… I need to alternate shampoos all the time!!!!
