The Food Babe Way Book Giveaway! {CLOSED}

Can I tell you something?
I still take notes with pen and paper, and doodle all over them. I keep track of events and to-do’s in a physical planner. I subscribe to 8 wonderful print magazines and look forward to reading every single page, beginning with the last page first. And I love ending my night getting all cozied up with a good book in my hands.
The past week, I’ve been cozying up with The Food Babe Way. This is a book after my own heart (I am passionate about knowing what’s in our food).

Fun fact: Vani’s a green smoothie rawkstar, just like us. But that’s not all— this amazing woman is transforming the food industry from the inside out— Subway, Kellogs, Starbucks, Chick Fil A, and many more have invested in better ingredients in their foods thanks to Vani). We all get to benefit from her food activist work.

#1 struggle is work! I work in a fairly small office and sit right next to the kitchen. Just today someone brought in a home baked cake from his mom and I indulged. Granted I took the tiniest of pieces, but I didn’t need or even really want it. I just heard everybody, “Oh wow, this is so good. You have to try it.” So I did.

My struggle is that I have no idea what is actually in the food. You think you have bought the right food only to find out its either full of nasties that they haven’t told you about, has it been injected with something, or grown on toxic land or covered in toxic sprays. And with the sprays, just how much and how many different ones are on your beautiful piece of broccoli etc? Instead of it being ultra healthy, it could be slowing killing you!

hardest part is making myself prep on the weekend to make my week’s cooking fly smoothly

My #1 struggle is variety or using the same ingredients/recipes all the time! After a while I get bored or tired of eating the same kinds of meals or smoothies. I try to mix it up but find myself settling into my comfort zone with healthy foods! Would love some new inspiration especially for my green smoothies 🙂

My biggest hurdle is not about eating healthy it’s about when I eat unhealthy… I feel awful, literally, my body, my soul, my mind! I beat myself up terribly on top of feeling awful. So when I choose to let go a little, it always comes back to haunt me. I can’t let go and just enjoy a day/night of unhealthy choices. I feel bloated, sluggish, my heart pounds, yada yada… I know this probably isn’t a “bad” thing but it toys with how I see food and life, it’s like I am on this emotional roller coaster with food.

My No1 struggle is just loving food too much! Sometimes my cravings for yummy foods override my desire to eat clean.

Out of site Out of mind is the only way to stay focused.
Also not shopping when hungry, because I will buy things I don’t need. 😉

The #1 struggle that I have is dealing with anything that takes me off my routine. I am a stress eater and I have fought an addiction to sugar for years. As a child, my family raised all of our own food on our farm. When I went off to college, I was faced with a plethora of poor food choices and would often binge on sugary items. It’s still hard for me to resist the urge to put away an entire box of cookies or bag of M&Ms when I feel upset or anxious. Since always controlling my routine at all times is unrealistic, learning more positive ways to channel the urge to binge has been a lifelong challenge. I have recently transitioned to a vegan diet and knowing that there are ethical as well as health reasons for eating better helps to reinforce healthy choices for me.

My #1 struggle is actually finding the healthy foods in my store. I live in a very remote area (it’s a 45 minute drive to the closest town, gas station, store, post office, etc.). The store in town has an extremely limited selection in their produce section. I’ve lived here since 2006 and they have never once had radicchio, for example.

I buy snacks for the kids (goldfish) and am tempted to eat them too!

#1 struggle is time. I’m up at 6 am and don’t go to bed until 11 pm. With work, getting kids to and from school, getting kids to practices or other activities, helping with homework, running errands like shopping and other things, and finally, finding me time. A lot of the times it’s just easier to make something quick and that’s not always the healthiest.

So excited! I just listened to her on the RRP this week.
I know that a lot of people will say otherwise but one of the toughest parts for me is the access to healthy options and the cost. Healthy food does cost more, and sometimes way more, especially snack items, such as nuts.

My greatest struggle is the price of healthier and chemical free food. Organic is almost always more expensive and it can be difficult while living on a really tight budget like my husband and I do.

Traveling. We always travel by car, so taking the blender is easy, but getting ingredients is hard. Plus we often travel with others, so there is the social aspect, restaurants and other gatherings.

My number 1 struggle is not knowing what I can eat and what I cant. Sometimes I can have a salad and I feel good and sometimes I dont. Its so hard.

Time. We live in a busy, fast-paced area of the country. “Keep up or be left behind.” Eating right takes time. Making time to invest in our health is a constant struggle.

My struggle is making sure I have my kitchen stocked so I can easily make something when I come home. I buy healthy ingredients just have to go shopping.

The hardest thing for me is living with four other people who do not share my desire to eat healthier foods. I am surrounded by temptation and if not for on-line communities like this, I would give up. So thank you Rawkstars!

My #1 struggle with healthy eating is being an inexperienced cook, coupled with time restrictions! When i get home in the evenings (after taking care of the dogs) the prospect of cooking a meal is frightening. A meal that would normally be no problem for the seasoned cook normally takes me double the time (prepping, thouroughly reading the directions, and hoping I remember all the ingredents). It is always so much easier to go the quicker route and make a frozen meal or go out. On the weekends, cooking is not as much of a challenge becuase there are no time restraints, but during the week… that is where i pack on the calories.

I would say my number one struggle with eating healthy is the food prep/planning. A second one would be getting everyone in the family on board. (The same meal for everyone! Imagine!) 😉
