Strawberry Carrot Smoothie

Carrots are an underrated smoothie ingredient. They are a nutrient dense veggie, with the sweetness we love in a good carrot smoothie recipe.

Strawberry Carrot Smoothie Recipe

This carrot smoothie recipe is surprisingly delicious with a variety of fruits AND veggies. I’ll show you exactly what ingredient to use if you’re looking to take your health to the next level. Grab your blender and let’s go!

Health benefits of a carrot smoothie

This carrot smoothie recipe shines most in its vitamin C and fiber content. Fiber is an underrated part of a healthy diet, so I love when one of my smoothie recipes contains a solid amount of dietary fiber. The other big star in this carrot smoothie is vitamin C. One serving gives you over 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C. So not only will this smoothie satisfy your taste buds, it will also boost your immune system naturally!

Ingredients in a carrot smoothie

Raw vs cooked carrots

Someone asked me whether raw or cooked carrots were more beneficial in this carrot smoothie. I laughed, thinking it was a joke… and then I actually researched it. The answer may surprise you!

According to the National Library of Medicine, cooked, pureed carrots actually released more beta-carotene than raw carrots did. So if you’d rather cook your carrots before blending, then go for it! Either way, carrots are a great, sweet veggie to add to all kinds of smoothies.

To peel or not to peel carrots

As with many fruits + veggies, the peel (or outside wrinkly part) of a carrot actually contains some of its nutrients. So I recommend leaving that carrot whole before blending. This way you can benefit from as much of that carrot as possible. If your carrots came with their leafy green tops, then you can even toss those in.

Carrot smoothie ingredient swaps

If you’d told me when I started drinking smoothies that I’d be adding veggies like kale or spinach into my smoothies, I’d have told you you were crazy! Yet the more I drink smoothies with leafy greens, the more my body starts to crave other veggies and so I got creative with my blends.

Swap spinach with another leafy green. Carrot tops are perfectly edible, and would make a great swap in this smoothie!

Swap coconut water with regular water, or a brewed herbal tea.

Switch out those strawberries with another berry (raspberries would be my first choice!).

Mango is a great swap for the pineapple. While some of these swaps will lower the amount of vitamin C in this smoothie, a vitamin C smoothie cube can also be added.

  1. susan says:

not as tasty as some of the others, but drank it all up anyway! Nutrients galore!

  2. Robin J says:

    Too much carrot.

  3. Anna says:

Tastes great despite the colour! Also added lemon to this one. Never thought to add carrot to my smoothies!

  4. Susan Garcia says:

This is my favorite! Nice balance- not too sweet.

  5. DorisJean says:

Very good. I added unsweetened protein powder for a boost in protein and made it a meal replacement.

  6. Robert Bowen says:

I thought this one would be more fruity, but tasted a little bland to me. I added a half a banana which gave it enough sweetness to make it ok. Also not a very pretty green color, but luckily tasted good in the end.

  7. Marie Davino says:

I have to admit I was not looking forward to the carrots, but it still tasted pretty good. Just takes some getting used to but my taste buds are complying 🙂 Day 8!

  8. Dora Suarez says:

Wow, I’m surprised. I wasn’t sure how I was going to react to the addition of carrots. I was scared it was going to be lumpy but it wasn’t. I love this flavor profile. I’m giving this 4stars instead of 5 because my smoothie was to thick, 1/2c of liquid didn’t suffice, I had to modify so it was 1c of liquid. That said, I froze my carrots with the fruit as part of my smoothie prep, so not sure if left unfrozen if that would have accounted for the other 1/2c of liquid, I’m guessing so. Now I want to know what other flavor profiles/fruit combos carrots can go with.

  9. EricaRuth says:

Sooo good! Not too sweet but sweet enough to be yummy! My favorite of 10 day challenge…

  10. Laura says:

I found it really tasty, although I’m pretty sure I added way more carrot than needed, so that was the main flavor.

  11. Josie Martiniello says:

I had a difficult time blending this one…the final result was soo thick for my liking. Maybe I need to make some adjustments.

  12. Linda says:

This was good to know about raw vs cooked. I’ve done a raw diet and my body liked it at the time, but it wasn’t sustainable for my lifestyle.

  13. Christine says:

Not too sure about today’s smoothie. I think it’s because my blender didn’t blend the carrot that well and everything was a bit chunky.

  14. Melinda N says:

Used baby carrots and I subbed kale since I ran out of spinach. Very good, not overly sweet.

  15. Leah says:

I like it with turmeric boost cubes

  16. Judy says:

I followed this recipe as close as I could with the fruit and veggies but only using 3/4 cup of coconut water and 1/4 cup of water today. I liked the carrot taste, but it still was a little too sweet for me. I added some unflavored protein to give it more nutrition and lime to tamper the sweetness but still had some oatmeal for breakfast.

  17. Maxine Thomas Thomas says:

    Day 8, Carrot Cooler
    Added Tumeric Smoothie Cubes
Substituted baby kale and celery leaves for spinich

  18. Jennifer A says:

I made this one with baby kale, but would prefer spinach. After tasting, I boosted with coconut smoothie cubes to help lessen the kale flavor. I like the addition of carrots. It must have been good because it didn’t last long!

  19. Jamie says:

Not my favorite but it wasn’t awful. I added hemp seeds for some protein.

  20. Kimberly Watt says:

Loved this smoothie… a little sweeter! I add my Lean Protein Powder and Chia Seeds too!

  21. Sue says:

I used raw sliced carrots & was surprised that it blended as well as it did.
Tasted fine, especially like the sweetness the pineapple added.

  22. Kimberly Watt says:

Loved this smoothie… a little sweet! I add my Lean Protein Powder and Chia Seeds too!

  23. Heather Cuddeback says:

I like adding the carrot to the smoothies.

  24. Lori says:

I have always loved carrots, in a smoothie or otherwise.

  25. Tammy J Verhulst says:

I added a little extra pineapple, then some protein powder for a great breakfast.

  26. Teresa S says:

Still going strong…. already have Vitamix blender⭐️

  27. Sheri says:

    Yum, yum and yum.

  28. Marcie says:

This one was really good. I have never added carrots to my smoothies before, but after tasting it, will definitely have to add them in from time to time! It made me feel healthier with every sip (especially since I also added in kale because I ran out of spinach) 😉

  29. AnnMarie says:

I actually loved this one! I air roasted some organic baby carrots until just soft to the touch.
Loved the caramel flavor it brought.

  30. Julie says:

Had day 7 smoothie, too be honest not my favorite. I think I might have needed at add some protein powder as I like a little thicker. It was sweet with the grapes and would be refreshing in the summer.

  31. Shawn says:

This wasn’t too bad but it definitely wasn’t my favorite. I would repeat it again and drink when it’s frosty cold.

  32. Heather says:

Didn’t care for this one, neither the taste or the texture, but I did drink it.

  33. Mary says:

I did not have high hope for this one, but it was delicious! Coconut water and I’m sold from now on!

  34. Nichole says:

This one I would like to try again but with less frozen ingredients. I had to keep adding water to get it to blend which watered down the flavor. But it still tastes pretty good.

  35. Mary Anderson says:

Great combination of flavors. I use frozen strawberries.

  36. Beverly Doucette says:

It was my first time using raw carrots in a smoothie! Who knew they’d be great? Another delicious smoothie.

  37. Grace says:

Tastes better than it looks! Much less sweet than I thought it would be, but I may have used less fruit than was called for since I doubled the recipe for two people. Hubby still says it tasted earthy which must be the spinach and I added kale today. In mine I also added chia seeds and pea protein powder. I froze the fruit and spinach which made the smoothies nice and cool.

  38. FNU says:

I loved this one but not my best, sparingly sweet and refreshing
    I enjoyed it though

  39. Not too crazy about this one. I’d rather eat my carrots – I like the crunch – than drink them!

  40. Karen says:

Really liked this one. I love carrots in my smoothies.

  41. Karen R says:

    Day 8
    Yummy, yummy, yummy smoothie!

  42. Marguerite C says:

This is one of my favs! I substituted cabbage for the spinach and mango for the strawberries. Also added 1 or 2 tablespoons of chia seeds.

  43. Angie M says:

    Day 8, Carrot Cooler
I loved this smoothie, I think mostly because it has another veggie in it, I’d like to see less fruit and more veggies.
Fruit is easy to eat for me, but I struggle getting in my veggies!
    Well done!

  44. Dianna Ebright says:

Today I made smoothie #8 Carrot Cooler using my Nutribullet blender. It did a pretty good job with the raw carrot, I shredded the carrot on my box grater. I made it with half spinach and half kale, I also added two of the turmeric boost cubes, really like them. Smoothie was very tasty although using the curly kale instead of the flat leaf kale, I could really detect the kale flavor, will most likely cut back on the kale a bit.

  45. Helen Thadathil says:

Good one, Not a carrot lover, but smoothies keep me goin. I have almost achieved my first goal of this decade to do the 10day challenge and excercise 5 days a week. Thanks to @simplegreensmoothies Rawstars. !!!Kale Yeah!!! 2 more days to go!

  46. Melanie skinner says:

    Enjoyed this one very much.

  47. Hilgay C Beckles says:

This smoothie has one of the lowest calorie count so I would think for losing weight it’s an excellent choice, However, in terms of titillating my taste buds, this was pretty blah 🙁 . I don’t like the taste that coconut water brings to this smoothie, next time if I use the recipe, I would use unsweetened coconut milk and and 1/2 banana

  48. Jessica Colley says:

I liked this one! Wasn’t my absolute favorite but I liked the flavor!

  49. Annette Vos says:

Good smoothie. More earthy taste with carrot. Wasn’t my favorite.

  50. Heather Smith says:

I did not care much for this smoothie. Wasn’t horrible but it’s not on my list to make again.

  51. Camille Benedict says:

  52. Laura Allison says:

Love getting extra veggies in there.

  53. Amber says:

So I added 1/2 cup of apple instead of the carrot and it tasted so yummy. This smoothie will be one I make again.

  54. Donna says:

Loving this 10-day smoothie challenge! Had to make a couple of substitutes given some fruits & veggies not in season (in January), but the are awesome and I feel great! Excellent way to start a new clean diet regimen! We prepped everything for each 5 & froze ahead & my husband & I have been having one for breakfast each day with a piece of dry high-fiber wheat toast. Easy for my long haul commute breakfast!

  55. Joanna Keczkowska says:

    Very yummy!

  61. Melissa says:

This is a great refreshing smoothie with more veggies than some of the others. Not too sweet.

  62. Kristin says:

Really enjoyed this one. It was my first time using carrots in a SGS. I liked it and will be adding it to my rotation. My only o the comment is that I should have blended it longer.

  63. Deborah Gilbert says:

Well it is not the prettiest smoothie.

I miss the smoothness of the first few days of smoothies. But it is still good. The carrot is not super overpowering.

  64. Andrea says:

I LOVE this smoothie! Wasn’t sure how I would feel about the carrots but it is a great combo. My husband is a big fan too as he loves carrot juice. Delicious! Will make again for sure.

  65. Elizabeth says:

Now I have ANOTHER new favorite! Hard to pick just one 😉
This one I “boosted” with Cilantro & the Turmeric Anti-inflammatory Cubes- AMAZING!
But, I love carrots, so, I may be biased here 😉

  66. Nidia Gago says:

Love this carrot Smoothie. Very refreshing

  67. Lalannie Knoll says:

Surprisingly refreshing, Couldn’t taste the carrot – tasted rather tropical.

Very good! Sweet and earthy. Carrot compliments the strawberry and pineapple. Very refreshing.

  69. Tanya says:

Admittedly I hate carrots and put more in this by mistake, but just did not love it. The carrot taste came through too much for me. That said I did force it down and felt better afterwards so I’m hoping I can force myself into liking it

  70. Nelleke Beats says:

Good smoothie. More pineapple taste than carrot.

  71. Shelley says:

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

You could always try it again with a different nut milk and see if that is better for you!

  82. Kathryn says:

This smoothie is so yummy! I love the idea of adding carrots to a smoothie. It came out a bit grainy due to put the carrots into the blender in fairly large pieces, so will have to try grating them next time.

Never in my life would I think to put these ingredients together but I am sure glad you did! I love the flavor that the carrot brings to this recipe. My new fave!

First time for using carrots in a smoothie for breakfast but I didn’t mind a bit. I love carrots and they didn’t make the smoothie taste weird at all (like I thought it would!)

Pretty good! The strawberry and pineapple did a good job of camouflaging the carrot!

  86. Marilyn says:

This was quite good. There was something about combining carrots and spinach that had me worried but I really enjoyed it. These recipes rawk!

  87. Megan Dear says:

  88. Kathy Overstreet says:

Love this smoothie – plan on adding it to my rotation of smoothies I make using Bell Peppers (red, yellow or orange ones) and Celery!

  89. Neal says:

This was different. I got a strong carrot taste but it was balanced by the strawberries. I didnt really get any pineapple coming thorough but maybe it worked in the background.

  90. Tanya says:

Perfect timing for this recipe! I was just trying to think of ways to use up the rest of my shredded carrots – I didn’t think about adding them to smoothies, but was pleasantly surprised with their added flavor, thanks!
