Weekend Adventure: Farmer’s Market

wesley chapel farmers market

Saturday is “family day” in our home— we try to spend the time together and do something low key and fun. For us, this usually means walking to the farmer’s market down the road. We work up an appetite from the bike ride, sample some gluten-free cupcakes, check out the local craft vendors for some art inspiration, buy some organic produce that is out of this world, and then eat lunch together. It makes us happy and some days we just need that.

On Saturday mornings, the Shops at Wiregrass closes down their streets and turns into a bustling farmer’s market. There are a couple produce stands that seem to be overflowing with incredible fruits and vegetables.  A while ago, we got a head of organic cabbage from Magnolia Farms that weighed at least 7 pounds. It was insane!

I love so many things about the farmer’s market, but my favorite might just be how healthy almost everything is! It’s much easier to play the “Five” game at the farmer’s market than the grocery store. And I feel like everywhere I turn, there is inspiration for a yummy and healthy meal. I am not a natural-born cook, but I am inspired every time we are here.

Bread is my weakness and I usually end up buying some flat bread from here. We use it to make mini mediterranean pizzas with hummus, kale, kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes and feta cheese (Laura Medley shared that recipe with me and I am hoping to share it with you all soon!).

We have gotten local raw honey from Eden’s Nectar and it’s delicious. We have been told from doctors and friends that local raw honey helps with seasonal allergies. We also use it in our Cold & Flu All Natural Remedy— and it’s been amazing!

I enjoy just stopping by the herb vendor and smelling all her varieties. I dream about having my own herb garden, but at the moment I feel like just keeping my own two kids alive and healthy is all I can handle.

I thought these birdhouses were so creative. I love the use of the red spiket handle and drawer pulls for the bird perch and license plates for the roof. What can I say, I am just a sucker for reclaimed goods.

If money wasn’t so tight, I would have bought four of these fouta towels! I loved the patterns, the colors and the fact that you can use it as a wrap and a towel. And they dry fast because they are light and sand doesn’t get stuck to them. Genius!

And the best part about the farmer’s market is….our kids get very excited to try all the new veggies we pick out. They want to help cook with them and see what they taste like. Having kids excited about vegetables is a parents dream come true.

Now for the big question: What did we do with the 7-pound cabbage? We made multiple green smoothies with it and I chopped some up for stir fry one night. It was delicious and I am hoping they have more the next time we go.

Do you have a favorite farmer’s market?

Please share! I’m sure we can help one another out by discussing this. I know when I’m traveling, we always google farmer’s market’s, but it’s best hearing from a local.

Ummm yeah. The arctic tundra would be a challenge for farmer’s markets. 🙂 At least May is only 4 months away!!!

One of the perks about Seoul are the incredible local street vendors you find everywhere! Unfortunately, the selections are a bit limited, but we always find the freshest, cheapest and yummiest fruits and veggies. Most of the time they are run by adjuma/adjeshi (older generation Koreans), who love Braden and make friends with us. 🙂
