Blender Girl Smoothies

BlenderGirlGreenMojito1_Wide600

While we embrace the green smoothie lifestyle with both arms, even we often feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get it all done.

You might know the feeling, too. You know, you wake up too early, you get the kids packed up and dropped off at school, then you sit down to work through that 20-email pile-up in your inbox, take care of projects, schedule appointments, run errands… by the time 5 PM rolls around you’re about ready to head straight to whatever fast food chain is around the corner – just to get dinner over with asap.

These are the moments blending a green smoothie can feel exhausting.

But, they’re also the exact moments you should be leaning on them the most!

That’s what I absolutely adore about our “sister in kale,” Tess Masters. I got her first book, The Blender Girl, when I wanted some new recipes to blend.

Tess lives and breathes the wellness mission of a healthier body, happier life. Her brand new book, The Blender Girl Smoothies, takes the guesswork right out of choosing the best smoothie to make, based on your mood, energy levels, and the flavor you’re craving.

When we share far and wide about how easy health can really be… everybody wins.

Here’s a recipe from her book…

Green Mojito   |  Serves 2

This is a cold-and-flu buster and potent detoxifier, all in one zesty cocktail! The bromelain in pineapple suppresses coughs and loosens mucus, while mint clears respiratory congestion, soothes sore throats, and alleviates nausea. The vitamin C in limes has antibiotic power, anti-inflammatories in kale and pineapple combat arthritis, and ginger boosts immunity, aids digestion, and adds a powerful zing.

1 cup (240ml) coconut water or water
1 teaspoon finely grated lime zest
3 limes, peeled and quartered
1 cup (25g) torn-up curly green kale leaves (1 or 2 large leaves with stalk removed)
1/2 cup (18g) firmly packed mint
2 cups (320g) frozen pineapple
5 drops alcohol-free liquid stevia, plus more to taste

Throw all of the ingredients into your blender and blast on high for 30 to 60 seconds, until smooth and creamy.

Boosters:
1 teaspoon wheatgrass powder
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 teaspoon coconut oil”

Most of my problem is morning motivation! Even when I get up early, I drag along. I should probably start prepping the night before!

My biggest challenge is rotating my greens. I tend to stick with spinach most of the time because it’s simple and easy. I want to branch out with new greens but am fearful I won’t use them up.

Freeze those greens! Saves time – and money.

My biggest hurdle is believing I am worth the extra prep and time.

Love spinach and kale for greens in my smoothies. Kale may be frozen, safe to use any day.

My biggest hurdle with making smoothies is traveling. At home we can stay in our routine of blending in our Vitamix. When we travel to visit grandkids I have no way to blend my smoothies. We can tell the difference when we do not drink our daily smoothie. (A portable high powered blender is not in the budget right now.)

My biggest hurdle is just having what I need on a consistent basis to make my smoothies.

    Hey Tiffany,

What works for me is freezing everything ahead of time. That way I just grab and blend and that is it!
