Combine two of the best summer fruits to create a flavorful strawberry watermelon smoothie bursting with nutrients. The fresh ginger adds a pleasant warmth to the smoothie and also helps the digestive system.

I’ve been on a watermelon kick lately.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the 90° temps and the trucks loaded with watermelon parked on corners. In our small town, we have watermelon farms that span for miles along the country roads. I love watching them grow larger and larger until it seems like they’re gonna burst. Then they’re all gone and I don’t see then again until they’re in the back of a pickup truck heading into town.

Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie Ingredients

This signature recipe combines the best of summer with the best of health. AS simple as it is to make, it’s also really good for you. So don’t miss out on embracing the summer flavors and doing your body some good!

Watermelon

Watermelon is packed with water and has a subtle sweetness that quenches any sweet tooth. You can buy any variety that you like, but I prefer a seedless variety for my smoothies.

Spinach

Spinach is the mildest of the leafy greens, which means you won’t even taste it in this smoothie, yet you will get the health benefits. Score! If you can find organic baby spinach, even better. I like to buy mine in bulk at Costco since I can freeze any spinach that I won’t use up that week.

Strawberries

I like smoothies when they’re cold, but not super thick and icy. To achieve that, I use 1-2 frozen fruits as my “ice.” With this recipe, strawberries are the frozen fruit I use. I try to buy organic since strawberries continuously come in at #1 on the EWG’s Dirty Dozen list (spinach is at #2!). If using conventional strawberries, just make sure to wash them real well.

Ginger

The first time I bought fresh ginger root I felt like such a hippy. It’s one of those strange exotic ingredients that I had no clue what to do with (fennel is also like that). You’ll only need a little piece for this recipe, so depending how much you buy, you can also grate and freeze it for other recipes later on. Ginger is good for your digestive system, for nausea, and just tastes really good.

How to make Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie

To make this summer smoothie recipe, you’ll need a blender. I prefer a high powdered blender since it really will get it the smoothest, yet you can use anything that you have. The trick if using a standard blender like an Oster, Black and Decker, etc is to only blend the spinach, water and watermelon together first. That will help you get the smoothest blend possible.

Not sure if your blender can handle the greens? We’ve all been there! I’ve created The Ultimate Blender Guide and reviewed countless blenders to find the best ones for smoothies.

You can also score on this special deal that Vitamix and I have where you can get my favorite blender for less than $300 (including FREE shipping). You will see the discount once you get to the cart… it’s amazing!

This is my favorite watermelon recipe, although in the app the closest is ‘radiant cooler’ which doesnt have ginger. I added peas (just to get them in something) and was glad that the watermelon drowns them perfectly!

  2. Jessica says:

I used fresh watermelon and fresh strawberries so I didn’t use any additional water. It wasn’t as cold as I would have liked (next time I’ll drink it over ice) but with the fresh fruits, it tasted amazing.
