8 Vegan Smoothies to Win the Day

POSTED ON 4.8.2021

This vegan smoothie round up is your one-stop shop for a whole host of plant based smoothies.

Vegan smoothie recipes and plant-based eating are becoming more and more popular. People are looking to add more plants to their diet because the results don’t lie. And well, that’s my goal here at SGS. I want to inspire everyone to eat more plants and blend green smoothies with me. So I’m sharing a great round-up with you today of my top 8 vegan smoothies, which I hope you blend and fall in love with too!

What’s in a vegan smoothie

While green smoothies are plant based, not all green smoothies, or smoothies in general are vegan. The recipes in this round-up are 100% vegan. This basically means they are 100% from plants, no animal bi-products in any of them.

Now, if you aren’t vegan, that’s okay! To enjoy a plant based diet, you don’t have to be. Yet it’s great to fuel our bodies with all kinds of plants, and these amazing smoothies do just that.

What you won’t find in these recipes is anything using animals or stuff that comes from them — cow’s milk, yogurt, honey, etc. Some of these foods can cause digestive and skin issues, so we stay away from it all when making smoothies. And you know what? They taste even better and I feel even better!

Vegan Smoothie Ingredients

Add plants, crave more, live better

When I was 28 years old with two babies…. I realized hadn’t been giving my body the right kind of fuel. Instead of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, I was living off of coffee, Lucky Charms, and mac n’ cheese. I called myself the world’s unhealthiest vegetarian and I felt like crap.

Well, that all changed after that first taste of a green smoothie.

Thanks to childhood pickiness, portrayal in the media, and the color green, a lot of people think they don’t like veggies, especially leafy greens. By leaving those out of the diet, the body misses out on so many nutrients that it can’t get from other places. Vitamins and supplements still aren’t as good as eating your fruits and veggies.

How vegan smoothies can change your life

Eating and living healthy starts with the desire to do so. It can be a scary thing to do. And I’m not suggesting everyone needs to adopt a vegan diet and lifestyle. I live by a “you do you” mantra when it comes to eating. But it almost goes without saying that most people could benefit from eating more plants.

During the day the majority of us are accustomed to three meals and a few snacks. Swap one of those with a green smoothie and see what happens. If you’re like me, you’ll find your energy start to soar. Your tastebuds will change. You’ll start craving more plants. And who knows? Maybe it will inspire you to make other healthy changes like going for a daily walk or practicing good sleep hygiene (we even have a vegan smoothie that helps promote good sleep!)

Healthy starts with a green smoothie

My point is you don’t have to go crazy. Start with one thing: a vegan smoothie, and see where it takes you. Green smoothies have taken me on a journey to other nations, they’ve fueled my body to run marathons, they’ve given me energy to be a girl boss, a wife, a mother, and all of the other roles I fulfill.

The more plants you add to your diet, the more you’ll start to crave them. This def happened to me when I started drinking green smoothies. (I didn’t dive fully into vegan smoothies in the beginning, yet I quickly realized the results get even better when you do!)

What would you use extra energy to do?

8 vegan smoothie recipes

Here are my top vegan smoothie recommendations. They are all delicious + nutritious beverages the whole family can enjoy together. So grab your blender and get ready to mix some fun new recipes!

plant based smoothie recipe

Cinnamon date smoothie– Is this a dessert?! I’ve gotten tons of comments on this smoothie, saying it tastes like a cinnamon roll in a cup. The key is using fresh dates as well as plant based milk for a creamy, delightful treat.

delicious vegan smoothie

Chocolate protein shake– If that photo hasn’t sold you on this smoothie, then let me testify to it’s awesomeness. I blend this smoothie up before a big workout, so my body can use its ingredients for fuel.

breakfast smoothie made with plants

Banana oatmeal smoothie– Perfect for breakfast on the go, this creamy smoothie is boosted with oatmeal. This vegan smoothie’s truly some serious goodness ready to consume in minutes.

fun smoothie bowl

Coconut joy smoothie bowl– Smoothie bowls are uniquely designed to be loaded with plants like smoothies, yet thicker and a blank canvas for ALL. THE. TOPPINGS.

the best vegan smoothie

Beginner’s luck smoothie– I don’t call this the best smoothie ever just for kicks. It’s been voted into this title by fans over and over again. If you are new to vegan smoothies, green smoothies, or any kind of smoothie, then this should be your first blend.

delicious vegan smoothie recipe

Mango smoothie– A super refreshing, creamy smoothie made with cashew milk is at the top of my blending list this spring. This is a new recipe, and was an easy add to the vegan smoothie recipes list – it’s so good!

smoothie with citrus

Strawberry carrot smoothie– Carrots in a smoothie? Kale yeah! I love adding a variety of root veggies to smoothies; they add both flavor and nutrition. Plus, the sweetness from the carrots pairs so well with fresh strawberries in this beverage.

Citrus vegan smoothie

This 8th vegan smoothie recipe below is a definite winner. Vitamin C-powered fruits dominate for a mighty immunity boost. If you’re looking for a little less natural sugar, then swap the banana for some slices of avocado. It uses a bit less water than my typical green smoothie formula, because an orange is naturally full of water.

Don’t forget to blend this smoothie and let me know with a comment + review how you liked it!

  1. Betsy Alvarez says:

Super Tasty! Love the citrus flavor. Even my kids love it

  2. Hubsch Shirley says:

Loved this … tasty banana with a punch of sweetness from the mango, orange and pineapple

  3. Samantha says:

This was my first time using an orange in my smoothie and I will definitely be doing so in the future – I loved the taste! A great choice to start off the challenge.

  4. Julia says:

I love the simplicity of these recipes! The one for today was no exception. I added the protein powder to make it a meal replacement and the smoothies have wonderful “staying” power with that additional factor! I did not freeze my banana because I thought they were too green and I wanted to give them the opportunity to ripen just a bit more. However, though very green on the outside, the banana was perfectly ripe on the inside and that added more banana flavor than I like. I enjoy a banana on its own, but prefer that the banana flavor not permeate so fully. Recipes with only half a banana or no banana are my favorite. Still, this was tasty and a nice full, smooth texture.

  5. sarah rau says:

I love this smoothie. It was such a great way to start my morning! It is helping me stay on track for the day!

  6. Jessie says:

Sooooo good! This tastes like a tropical vacation in a glass (which is helpful when we’re all stuck at home during a global pandemic). I added some hemp seeds to mine to add a little protein. I will definitely make this smoothie again!

  7. Jone says:

One of my favorite smoothies. I add ginger to mine and omit the bananas…lots of energy.

  8. Jan says:

    This was delicious! Very refreshing.

  9. Daniella says:

First smoothie of the challenge. I didn’t have pineapple (forgot to get from the store) so I replaced it with mango. It came out super creamy and delicious.

  10. Kristin says:

The Citrus Vegan was great! I’d forgotten how much I love green smoothies. I’m so glad that this challenge has started!

  11. Nancy Devitt says:

I replaced the water with coconut water. I ended up making 4 cups of smoothie . I used all frozen fruits and spinach. Talk about yummy.

  12. Jen says:

This is a great start to the 10-day smoothie challenge. Creamy while not being able to taste the greens. I love greens in my smoothies but my family does not. So it was perfect in that sense.
However, since I followed the recipe from the guidebook which states to use 1 banana, it was not as great as it could have been. (I am not a big fan of bananas in my smoothies). Nonetheless, it was still great; and filling. I may substitute with avocado time though.

  13. Shalona says:

This smoothie lacks no good thing! It’s so smooth and delicious, which is why I am a big fan of using mostly frozen fruit. This smoothie lacks no good thing!

  14. Geri Luciani says:

I love how thick, smooth, and creamy the texture is. It’s got a great taste as well. The citrus is subtle, but a nice twist. I blended this in my $20 Hamilton Beach blender, so I needed to first blend the water and spinach before adding prepped frozen fruit. I added two fresh clementines instead of the orange. Great smoothie.

  15. Dora Suarez says:

Simple, sweet and tangy. As is a perfect mid-morning snack.

  16. Pam Brockett says:

This was so good. It’s been awhile since I’ve done the green smoothies. I don’t know why I stopped. So healthy and so good. Thank you Jen for this challenge!

  17. Anna says:

Loved this one! I always forget about throwing oranges in my green smoothies so it was a great add on. I was even able to get my fiance to drink a little of it and he was impressed that it was so sweet (he always expects the green smoothies to taste just like the spinach…). I totally think I can get him hooked on this 10 Day Challenge too!

  18. Terri says:

Delicious! Couldn’t find mango so just left it out. I also used kale instead of spinach.

  19. Bobbi Bailey says:

Had my morning smoothie after my morning workout and it gave me a boost of energy. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s smoothie. Love the taste of banana that comes through

  20. Sherry Baugh says:

This smoothie was great to start the 10 day challenge!! Easy to make with frozen mango, pineapple and banana. Cool and delicious on a hot summer morning!! Just peeled the orange, dropped in a huge handful of spinach and blended with water.

  21. Kathy Overstreet says:

Love this smoothie (Citrus Vegan) as it has subtle flavors popping out, such as the citrus taste and the mango! It will definitely be one I make again and again!!! 🙂

  22. Brittany says:

This smoothie is delicious and will put you in a tropical state of mind. I made a double batch to help me get through all my work emails. And the SGS protein powder compliments the taste perfectly.

  23. Amy Marshall says:

I have enjoyed this smoothie many times and it is so great!! Love the splash of citrus taste!

  24. Amber says:

Great way to start my morning. Because of allergies, I had to replace mango with peaches. I will try it again and add a protein.

  25. Heather says:

I added protein and it was a great start to my day!

  26. Laura says:

This was freaking amazing! I added protein powder to make it a meal and fresh lemon basil from the garden. The basil really complimented the citrus and it was delicious!

  27. Sharah DeMena says:

This was delicious and as someone who is allergic to caffeine it gave me a great push of energy this morning and I immediately got my workout in with that energy spike. Very excited about this 10 day challenge.

  28. Laura Peters says:

I was really impressed with this smoothie. Even my daughter liked it once she tried it. I usually am not a fan of citrus in my smoothies as I find the texture of the orange off putting , but I had my oranges previous frozen which helped it blend very smoothly !

  29. Becky Cromwell says:

Love how well the citrus blends with the spinach for this smoothie! Definitely a new fave!

  30. Christene says:

Added a squeeze of lemon to take it over the top! Excited for the challenge.

  31. Deborah says:

I had frozen pineapple and mango and did not feel like it would be enough so I added some ice cubes. I thought this smoothie could have used something to add some zip to it, but I don’t know what. Basil comes to mind. Maybe some nutmeg, I love the smell of nutmeg and have been on a nutmeg kick lately. It was good, it won’t be my favorite.

  32. Cristina Ribeiro says:

  33. Shannon Stroschein says:

Love it!!! Simple and smooth and a great way to start my smoothie cleanse!

  34. Kate A says:

I think I could drink this one every day! It’s like happiness in a smoothie 🙂 I used frozen mango and pineapple and it was the perfect temp.

  35. Adriana says:

    Sooooo yummy

  36. Darlene says:

    I made my different.
    2 cups spinach
    2 cups water
    1 cup of pineapple
    1 orange
    1 banana

I love orange, pineapple, banana juice. Now I did it as a smoothie.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Darlene,

Thank you for sharing what worked for you!

  37. Kim says:

So sweet and delicious. Perfect summer night treat. 🙂

  38. Brandi Collis says:

I have had tremendous results on my green smoothie challenge. I am down 7lbs since starting on January 1st but most of all I have so much more energy. I babysit a 2yr old and a 4 yr old and I can now keep up with them when they want to play “Superheroes”. I will continue to drink my green smoothies everyday even after the challenge is over. I just feel really good.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      Hey Brandi,

Wow that is amazing that you are down 7lbs!! It’s so crazy how adding one green smoothie to your daily diet can make such a huge difference!

  39. Windy says:

Simply freedom was the best!! All the smoothies ate so simple to make and enjoy.

  40. Martha Coleman says:

Sweet and so fresh! You think you’re having dessert.

  41. Kathy says:

Truthfully, I need to give all of the 30 day challenge recipes 5 stars! If I had to pick just one from week 3, it would be the one I had today: MANGO GREEN-A-COLADA
    1 cup kale
    1 cup coconut milk

I’m so glad that you have been enjoying the citrus fruits! That is why we love this challenge so much because you really get to experience new flavors and really find what you like 🙂

  94. Christina says:

Liked this but the orange does take over a bit in terms of flavor. I am going back down the orange a bit and hope then the other flavors stand out.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

The orange might not be for everyone so if you need to add less and more of another fruit that is totally fine! You make this smoothie work for you.

  95. Bonnie says:

Added 1/2 lemon (juiced) and 2 stalks celery to this(usually I had these to all my smoothies).
    A keeper 🙂

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

Way to get in some extra nutrients! Sounds delicious =P

  96. Bethany Vines says:

Hmm… I thought I would love this one because of all the yummy fruits, but I still just tasted the banana. I may try it again with less banana, or avocado instead.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

Feel free to do half and half or swap completely for the avocado!

Your smoothie will still have that delicious creaminess too.

  97. Kari says:

Very good, made me want to go to a beach and sit in the sun!

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

I wish this smoothie could make that happen right now!

  98. Brittani Kendrick says:

I usually don’t like smoothies with oranges but once noticed that in the recipe instructions that you blend the oranges with the spinach and water, I ended up loving this recipe!

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

I am so glad that our little tip made you love oranges in your smoothie! It really makes a huge difference when blending 🙂

  99. Neal says:

Loved this one. Used tinned mandarin slices in juice for the orange as i really dont have time for peeling and chopping. Added some avocado also for healthy fats. Delicious and refreshing.

    • SGS Rawkstar Carissa says:

      That sounds really delicious, Neal!

Thanks for sharing that with us.

  100. Liz says:

Nice! Liked that little hint of pineapple! Very yummy
