Top Kid-Friendly Fruits and Veggies for Rawkin’ Green Smoothies

Want your kids (or kids-at-heart) to eat more fruits and veggies? Well, then look no further. We’ve road-tested these fruits, veggies, and nut butters with our own kiddos and rawkstar community to find out their faves and listed them here for you.

Not only do most kids love these 7 ingredients, but they are so healthy they won’t even miss those sugar-packed snacks.


7 Kid-Friendly Fruits and Veggies for Smoothies

Berries: Berries taste fantastic, are available all year round (in the freezer section during the winter months), and brighten up any kid-friendly smoothie. Adding a handful (or a cup) naturally sweetens your green smoothie as well as providing energy, vitamin c and fiber. Here’s the top 5 berries to rawk your green smoothies.

Fresh Squeezed Orange and Apple Juice: When you squeeze your own fruit juices, not only do you get more health benefits by drinking them right away, but most kids (like mine!) think they taste so good that they’re getting a special treat. Adding fruit juices as a base to your green smoothies naturally sweetens them—making them more “acceptable” to little ones or new green smoothie drinkers.

Baby Spinach and Kale: Baby leafy greens tend to have a more mild flavor than their “larger” buddies. You can find baby spinach, baby kale or baby bok choy in most grocery stores and adding these to your green smoothies will help them taste less “green.” Here’s a list of 13 leafy greens to add to your blenders.

Tropical Fruits – Bananas, Pineapple, MangoSome of the most potent natural sweeteners, tropical fruits add an amazing amount of creaminess and sweetness to your green smoothies—not to mention they taste fantastic! If you want to make a kid-friendly green smoothie, just add a banana, a cup of pineapple, or even some mango to mask any smoothie that tastes a like lawn clippings. Grapes: Grapes are a wonderful natural sweetener that pack a healthy punch. If you want a fun and naturally sweet treat, freeze grapes and eat them as a snack. Otherwise, add them to your green smoothie for a flavorful boost, or add them frozen to give your smoothie a chill!

Apples: Almost every kid loves apples, and they are loaded with fiber and vitamins that are good for the eyes and immune system. Available year round in most areas, apples are highly accessible and lovable. I’d even be willing to bet that your doctor would recommend them!

Nut/Seed Butters: Looking for a way to add healthy fats and protein to your green smoothies all while making them taste more like desserts? Try adding a couple tablespoons of nut or seed butters to turn any green smoothie into a rich and healthy treat. They are clever in masking any overly “green” tasting smoothie and make them taste fabulous!

Try experimenting with all of these ingredients to see which ones your kids love the most—maybe even let them make their own concoctions!
