Juicy orange cuts the bitter edge in this tropical kale smoothie, while frozen pineapple and mango bring the sweetness. Chia seeds thicken it up, and you get 15g of fiber in 5 minutes.
Pour the water into a blender. Add the kale and orange and blend until smooth.
Add the pineapple, mango and chia seeds. Blend on high until smooth, 45 to 60 seconds, adding a splash more liquid if it's too thick. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.
Notes
Kale Tip: Remove the tough kale stems, or use baby kale for a milder smoothie. Massaging the leaves with a few drops of lemon juice for 30 seconds softens them and tames the bitterness.
Sweetener Swaps: For a sweeter smoothie, add a Medjool date, 1/2 banana or a drizzle of maple syrup. See more natural sweetener options.
Liquid Swaps: Coconut water or unsweetened almond milk works in place of the water.
Storing: Best fresh, since the chia seeds keep thickening as it sits. It keeps in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours; shake and add a splash of water before drinking.
