Jadah Sellner: Co-Founder / Community Builder

I’m an introvert who loves being a part of intentional communities and building a tribe of world-changers with mission-driven businesses. I know the introvert + community-building combo don’t make sense, but it’s totally true. I’m guessing it’s because I’m a gemini (half party animal + half hermit crab). I live in Walnut Creek, a cozy downtown area just 25 miles east of San Francisco. I met my husband in L.A. touring as an actor for an Educational Theatre Program (we taught kids about healthy living), so the performing arts are a happy place for our family. My husband sings and writes music for children. We gave up our hollywood/rock star dreams to live the simple life on Kauai for a few years. Loved Hawaii, but love the city life more. California is our home.

Jadah, how have green smoothies changed your life?

I started one simple habit in the summer of 2011: drinking green smoothies everyday. And in three months, I lost over 25 pounds. My friends and family started asking what I was doing. I was beyond excited to spread the word about how easy it was to blend up leafy greens with fruits. People I love (including my friend Jen and amazing business partner) started buying their own blenders, making green smoothies, and getting the same results as me: lots of energy, weight loss and craving healthier foods. I believe that green smoothies are the kickstart to making healthy eating a lifestyle–– not a diet.

As a mom with a crazy busy schedule, I discovered that meal plans + shopping lists keep me on track to fueling my body with plant-based recipes 80% of the time.

My favorite green smoothie is…

Beginner’s Luck…like every single day. It’s the first smoothie I make for anyone new to the world of green smoothies. And I’m currently obsessed with adding almond meal + coconut oil to my green smoothies for a good mix of protein and healthy fats!

I feel most alive when…

I listen to music. Music not only lets me connect and relate to other people, but it also let’s me escape into far away places. Plato was right when he says, “Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul.” We turn up the music loud in our home and let our daughter dance on the coffee table. Yes, I’m that mom.

I couldn’t live without…

Books! I collect them, I loan them, I love them. I love the smell of history lingering between pages. As a life-long learner, books feed my curiosity. My family and I love to sit on a blanket in the park and just read. We also read Shel Silverstein poems together at the dinner table.

I’m addicted to…

Board games. I can stay up until 4am playing games like Dutch Blitz, Catch Phrase and Monopoly. My husband actually proposed to me in front of all of our friends in the middle of the game Cranium. I had to guess the phrase “Will you marry me” during the charades challenge, and it was an epic fail (I couldn’t guess it for the life of me). Luckily, when the timer went out, he still got down on one knee, and I totally said, “Yes!”

My guilty pleasure is…

Macaroni & cheese– seriously my carb nemesis. I will gobble it up whether it is my grandmother’s southern recipe made from scratch or the boxed one you buy from Trader Joes (and not the light one). A big scoop of mashed potatoes is a close runner-up.

Have you signed up for our FREE 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge yet? We’d love for you to be a part of our green smoothie lovin’ tribe.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I’ve been working ot 4-5 days a week, 1200 cal diet which includes smoothies, but feel as if I’ve hit a plateau on the scale. I see a difference, but the scale, and my clothes haven’t changed. I’m interested in your story, however, your daily menus or exercises aren’t listed which I’m sure they were also part of your weight loss? I’d love to hear 🙂

I changed NOTHING in my daily routine, just added a green smoothie (no working out for this chick) from them. In total I have lost 70 lbs. 30 of which was just during the 30 day challenge!!
After the 30 days I gave up all soda, but nothing else. (I love my treats on the weekends) slowly I started wanting them less n less, until I only craved my greens n fruit. Suddenly I had the urge to walk.
So now a green smoothie a day, no soda and a cool walk after dinner, Iam at my goal weight after 14 years of failed tries!! And it took less than a year!!
      Love u ladies!!!

      Hi Nicola,

We designed Fresh Start 21 with our holistic nutritionist to replicate the type of meals I was eating once I got hooked on a daily green smoothie. During my weight loss transformation I eliminated meat from my diet as well as processed foods. You can learn more about our 21-day cleanse here:

      Hi Lisa,

You could add that to any green smoothie recipe for extra protein boost. Good luck!

Jadah, i am new to green smoothies. Post child birth, i am unable to lose fat. I am working out in gym for the past four moths. Still i am unable to lose weight/fat. I am inspired by your story and want to have one green smoothie everyday (instead of breakfast). So, my question is, can i have coconut milk (instead of water) in my smoothie everyday. Will this affect my weight loss goal. Will it increase body fat percentage. Thanks!

I always use coconut or almond milk and still dropping lbs!!

    • Jadah Sellner 10.3.2016 at 7:11 am #

Hi! If you can use almond milk instead of coconut milk, it will be a better replacement. Every body is so different. But I can say that working out supports more strengthening and tone in your body and nutrition supports weight loss if that’s what your body truly needs to thrive. Always listen to your body.

I just joined the 21 day Cleanse and I am looking forward to it. I am attempting to change being a possible diabetic by changing my diet and the Dr’s for International Truth in Medicine say this can be done, so I have been trying a 30 day program from them and I am about finished, so I was looking for some follow-up with meals etc and I am hoping this is the answer as they don’t have a daily eating plan.

Awesome Paula! I hope our recipes support your goals. 🙂
