These look great, I was just talking to a friend about craving Girl Scout cookies and wondering if I could create smoothies that taste like Thin Mints, Tagalongs (Chocolate/Peanut Butter) or Trefoils (Shortbread).

I went to the dr’s office 1/15/2014 and he told me that I can not have any fruit only becuz it has surger but, I can have one apple a day and gradefruit I love smoothies but now how do I go about making them with out fruit??? plz help.

Try just using the fruit ingredients you can have with lots of greens. They won’t taste as “sweet” but you definitely want to follow your dr.’s recommendations. 🙂

I try to limit my fruits, too,(because of blood sugar) so I have used only 1/2 granny smith apple (this is the apple with least amount of sugar) for a breakfast smoothie. If you sprinkle some lemon juice on the other 1/2, you can baggie it and leave it in fridge for a lunch or dinner smoothie. Or, I give the other 1/2 to my daughter for breakfast and then just do the same thing later on (I use 1/2, I give her 1/2). Use the peel, but not the core (the seeds are bad for you) to give you extra fiber to help decrease the glycemic load on you.

But def do what your doctor says since I’m not a doctor!!

My new favorite breakfast smoothie is as follows:
    Huge handful of power greens
    1 tablespoon of cinnamon
2 scoops of chocolate protien powder
    1/2 banana
1 teaspoon each of chia and hemp seeds
And 1 tablespoon of peanut or almond butter(i prefer peanut).
Add ice and about a cup and a half f water and blend! It is amazingly yummy.

Is there a substitute for the banana in these recipes? It’s one of the only flavors I simply can not stomach!!

  9. Megan

    January 16th, 2014 at 1:46 pm

Sometimes freezing them can considerably reduce the powdery flavour of bananas. I am not a huge fan but have found freezing them to be helpful.

I am allergic to avocado but that might give a creamy texture and make the smoothie filling…

You can also just put in more of what you like/can have like strawberries, apples, mango, etc. 🙂

Have trying some of your recipes and find them very tasty and helpful. I’m 65 and have been having a lot of back in the lower right side but since drinking some of the drinks, usually every other day. my back pain is decreasing. Getting rid of that pain without pills is great. Keep the recipes coming. I’m blending as I have the funds to buy the veggies and fruits.

    Hi,
What can I use in place of the bananas ? They just don’t agree with me.
Also, are there any combos that are bad. Sometimes, I put in what i have in the fridge, but they all don’t taste great.

    Thanks

    My favourite breakfast smoothie is:

1 1/2 frozen bananas (freezing them makes the texture really smooth)
    1 cup frozen blueberries
    1 dessert spoon chia seeds
    handful spinach
    5 almonds
1 heaped teaspoon of vital greens powder
1 cup and a half of almond milk and half cup water.

Megan or anyone else who knows about this powder, where do you buy the vital greens powder from and what is the cost? I saw one on amazon but after shipping its like $100!!!! OMG the benefits of it sounds great, but not the price!!! Do you recommend a certain brand?

Megan: You might check at your local farmers market, ours is a coop market and we carry Macro Life Naturals called MIRACLE REDS and also MIRACLE GREENS. Awesome products, the REDS are gluten-free (I can’t have wheat, oats, barley, rye or soy) and cost around $35/$40, in Oregon. No sugar added and sweetened with Stevia. I can’t use the GREENS because of the wheat grass and barley grass but either is a great supplement to put in the smoothies. Look at their website http://www.MacroLifeNaturals.com and maybe see if you could use it.

I also use green powders that I found at a store called “Mrs. Green’s”, if you have that in your area. It was around $17 for a bag and there are several different varieties (even a Vanilla “Kids” version).

    Hey there!

I am really looking forward to trying your smoothies but I came across a huge problem. I can’t for the life of me find fresh spinach. I don’t know if they just ran fresh out of it here in Germany or if there is just a better selection overseas, but there was none at the farmer’s market, the supermarket or my local health store. So my question is: Would it be okay to use frozen spinach? I can get frozen leaves pressed to bundles, not the carved up stuff. Or is there anything else I can use instead?

    Thanks in advance!
    Ines

I think the frozen spinach would work. I read on pintrest that a lady freezes her smoothies in a ziploc bag and grabs them out of the freezer. I do this too. So, my spinach/kale is frozen when i make mine. So, it is probably the same thing.

And i use frozen starwberries because frozen is cheaper than fresh right now.

    A favorite of mine is:
    A handful if spinach
    1 frozen ripe banana
1 tablespoon of almond or peanut butter
1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup of unsweetened almond milk

Hi there, are you using canned coconut milk or the kind you get in the dairy aisle (alongside soy milk and other nondairy “milks”)?

  29. Jadah and Jen

Dairy aisle 🙂 Usually in a carton.
