Turn a Fruit Smoothie into a Green Smoothie
Transforming a fruit smoothie into a green smoothie is super easy and the added health benefits don’t hurt.
Adding leafy greens to a fruit smoothie provides extra nutrients to break down the natural sugar in fruit, which then allows your body to burn that energy slower + longer. That means you aren’t hungry an hour after downing this blueberry spinach smoothie!
You can take any healthy smoothie recipes you love and add 1 cup (or a handful) to them if they don’t already have leafy greens, and you won’t even taste the difference. Yet you can be proud of yourself for adding a whole cup of spinach to your body!
New to leafy greens? Start with 1/4 cup in this blueberry spinach smoothie, then work your way up to a full cup. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your tastebuds adapt to that leafy green goodness.
Ingredient Swaps
I always say smoothies are versatile, however, this especially applies to any smoothie with berries. There are so many types of berries available, and pretty much any of them can be swapped in for the blueberries in this recipe. I love the Costco bags of frozen mixed berries, and often use that in this smoothie.
Any dairy-free milk works in place of the almond milk base. You might get a different taste + texture depending on what you use, yet you might find a new fav combo too! Looking for a non-banana substitute? Mango works great, and has a little less sugar than banana.
Finding the Best Almond Milk
There are so many almond milk brands on the market right now! How do I know which one is best? My rawkstar team actually tested as many brands as we could find, to bring you our top almond milk picks.
Yet did you know making your own almond milk is super easy too? I’ve got a no-fail recipe, along with a few tips to help you make delicious homemade almond milk as well. Choosing your fav option only adds to the value of this blueberry smoothie.
Organic vs Non-Organic Smoothie Ingredients
While I try to buy organic ingredients for my smoothies, it’s not always possible or in the budget. So I use EWG’s Dirty Dozen guide to know which produce should be organic if possible.
This guide provides the most up-to-date info on a variety of produce, so I know what I’m putting into my body, as well as feeding to my kids. Some ingredients for this blueberry spinach smoothie are on the Dirty Dozen list, so I make sure to buy the organic versions.

Notes
- You can swap blueberries for any berry you can find. I like to use pre-packaged frozen mixed berries to give it a strong robust flavor.
- Make sure to use at least 1 frozen fruit for a refreshingly cool smoothie.
- Swap almond milk with the plant milk of your choice, or swap with water.
- To lower the natural sugar in this recipe replace 1 banana with 1/4 avocado or 1/4 cup frozen cauliflower.
I enjoyed the simplicity of the recipe. It wasnโt very pretty being like dark mud, but tasted deliciously. With SGS protein powder it keeps me full for at least 4 hours
Blueberries and banana fortunately overtake the spinach taste.
I donโt know the exact proportions, but this has been my go to smoothie for years! Itโs a classic and reliable blend.
The blueberry spinach smoothie was awesome! Of course I added a little more spinach and a little more blueberries. I added a little bit of frozen to the fresh I had. And dumped in some protein powder. Although these shake recipes call for one serving sometimes Iโll add a little more for twoโฆ I definitely give this smoothie a thumbs up! Try it! You just might like it! Also, if you use almond milk that has added proteins 10 g you can bump up your protein content.
This smoothie has been my favorite so far. I love that itโs simple ingredients and nothing that will upset my sensitive stomach.
I like this one the best so far. I usually think of a smoothie with protein powder as a breakfast replacement, but I am enjoying this one as an evening snack/dessert.
Hi everyone,
My apologies for the delay in todayโs review. We had a late day appointment and lots of errands to run before I go back to work on tomorrow. We like todayโs smoothie very much all the flavors blend really nice together and this smoothie will be our dinner replacement meal. I added a couple of scoops of protein powder to make it more filling. So far this has been one of my favorites. I hope that I am not too late for todayโs drawing!!! Also I am not on social media thatโs why Iโm not participating in a support group but I do have email.

The best so far of the challenge, so yummy!
Really enjoyed this smoothie! I used coconut water since missed the need for almond milk in my planning. I intend to make some almond milk and try this smoothie again. I am anxious to compare. Thank you for the challenge – I see this as a way to add more variety to my smoothie repertoire plus more practice using my Vitamix!
This recipe was so good! I love the micro and macro nutrient content! It was a perfect post row recovery smoothie. I added protein powder. Delicious
I used all fresh fruit ingredients and really liked this recipe. You can’t tell there is spinach in this just by taste. That makes it great for someone who doesn’t care for spinach! I didn’t have protein powder and it was still thick and delicious. I will definitely make this one again and again, and try it with frozen fruits and different berries for variety.
Even using extra greens and water instead of almond milk, this was tasty and creamy! I will definitely blend this one again.
Delicious! I loved that none of the fruit that was included was overpowering. It was a great blend to me and it felt filling with protein powder included. This one is absolutely getting included in my rotation.
I saw that someone added chia seeds in theirs- Iโm flagging that idea to use down the line-it sounds so good!

Blueberries, Strawberries And Banana Together This Is One Of My Favorite Smoothie Combinations, So Good ๐ A Great Summer Smoothie, I Added Some Protein Powder To My Smoothie To Make It Even More Complete. I Will Definitely Make This Smoothie Again.
Very good!
