Berries are my jam. They’re antioxidant superstars and are low in sugar while totally hitting the spot when I get a sweet tooth. If you’re a berry lover too then this berry salad is for you.
Take a bunch of fresh seasonal berries, top them with some naturally sweet n’ tangy plants and finish them off with a little crunch. Voilá! You’ve got a rawkstar breakfast berry fruit salad to share (or not!).

Breakfast Fruit Salad Recipe

Make sure to wash and dry all the fruit before adding it to your bowl. You can either keep all the berries whole or slice the strawberries, your choice. Add a pink or yellow grapefruit that’s been peeled and segmented, again keeping the slices whole or chopping them in half.
After you drizzle the orange juice and maple syrup over the fruit, very gently mix it all together. You don’t want to smash the berries yet you do want to distribute the ‘dressing’ evenly.
I love the addition of mint yet if it’s not your favorite flavor then omit it. Sprinkle the sliced almonds and your gorgeous berry salad is ready to enjoy.

Easy Ingredient Swaps
I chose berries that are all fresh at the same time in Central Florida. Feel free to swap out any of these with berries that are local and seasonal for you.
If nut-free is what you need, then swap out the almonds with hemp hearts to keep the nutty flavor and crunch. Coconut flakes also pair well with this fruity concoction in place of almonds.
Honey can replace maple syrup, or omit altogether to keep this lower in natural sugar.
Berry Salad FAQs
Try to make it and eat it the same day so all the fruit is fresh. If you wash and dry the berries well before mixing together, this salad can be made in the morning, then refrigerated until ready to enjoy.
I added grapefruit and fresh-squeezed orange juice to my bowl of berries to balance out the sweetness and add a bit more color.
Honestly, choose local, seasonally fresh berries for your salad. These might change depending on your location and that’s fine! I follow EWG’s Dirty Dozen when choosing which organic produce to buy.

Bright Berry Salad
Ingredients
- ½ cup strawberries
- ½ cup blueberries
- ½ cup blackberries
- ½ cup raspberries
- 1 grapefruit peeled and segmented
- 3 tablespoon orange juiced
- 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 4 mint leaves
- ¼ cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- In a serving bowl, combine the berries and grapefruit.
- Drizzle the orange juice and maple syrup on top.
- Sprinkle with the mint and almonds.
Notes
- If this won’t be served right away, squeeze fresh lemon juice over top and store in the fridge with an air-tight lid.
- Swap grapefruit with an orange.
- Swap maple syrup with honey (turns this vegan dish into a vegetarian one).
- To make this nut-free, swap almonds with hemp hearts or sunflower seeds.




















What a delightfully refreshing fruit salad! We didn’t have mint, but had everything else. I’ve had this salad with mint before and find I like it both ways. The mint just adds another flavor dimension. If you’re unsure about the mint, maybe just add a little bit as a topper to see how you like it before committing to the full amount. 🙂
Good but next time leave out the mint.
i don’t usually sweeten fruit, but i made this recipe as written… except that i blended the orange juice, maple syrup, and mint leaves in my vitamix. what’s not to like about a bowl of berries (especially when they’ve become a luxury due to cost)? that said, i thought the flavors were lovely. and i think it would be nice with some basil as well. thanks for inspiring this treat!
We had the Bright Berry Salad with minestrone soup last night for dinner. Yummy!!! I love the beautiful colors and the variety of flavors in this salad. The almonds and mint make this salad sing!! Another keeper for us!
I took this to my daughter’s to have for dessert for 6 people, multiplying the recipe accordingly. I added an extra orange to replace the grapefruit. I used sliced hazelnuts since I had forgotten to buy sliced almonds. Everyone liked it a lot. I will be making this again today (Tuesday) to have after dinner. This look forward to having this throughout berry season. This recipe is definitely a keeper!
The berry salad is my favorite. I have some form of this salad every day whether is breakfast, lunch or dinner.
I used orange instead of the grapefruit and walnuts in place of sliced almonds.
It’s so delicious and refreshing.

and also the grapfruit. But I have to wait until the strawberries arrive near the winter.
I loved the mixed fruits with the dressing and nuts, I didn’t love the mint through. Adding grapefruit was a nice change from typical fruit salad flavors.
Made this for the salad challenge, and fresh berries are not really in season right now. I know it would have been more enjoyable with garden fresh or local berries!
I’m so glad to have this recipe because it showed me another way to eat berries! I eat them the same way all the time and might add some whipped cream but that gets boring. This is fresh and too easy to make!
This was so bright and fresh! My berries were lovely and the dressing elevated all that goodness. There’s so much you can do with this! I had it for breakfast with some sliced banana and yogurt, but I think adding some couscous or quinoa and having it for lunch would have been yummy too.
