The more I fall in love with smoothies, the more adventurous I get in the kitchen—asking myself what else I can toss into the blender and turn into something delicious and nourishing. This honeydew smoothie started with curiosity and quickly became a keeper.
Juicy honeydew and ripe nectarines blend into a naturally sweet, refreshing base, while a handful of spinach adds fiber and nutrients without changing the flavor. The result is a light, hydrating smoothie that tastes delicious, supports digestion, and makes getting your greens feel effortless.

Ingredients You’ll Need
A few simple ingredients are all it takes to whip up a bright and refreshing honeydew smoothie:
- Fresh spinach: Just a handful sneaks in some greens without altering the fruity flavor. Grab a fresh bunch or a bag from the produce section. Learn how to freeze spinach so you always have some on hand.
- Coconut water: Naturally sweet and hydrating, coconut water keeps the smoothie refreshing. Find it in the beverage aisle or the refrigerated section.
- Honeydew melon: Sweet and juicy, honeydew is the heart of the smoothie. Look for melons that feel slightly heavy for their size with a faintly sweet aroma at the stem.
- Nectarine: Adds a subtle tangy sweetness that pairs perfectly with the honeydew. Pick ripe, fragrant nectarines from the produce section for the best flavor.

Recipe Tips
Use ripe fruit: The sweeter your honeydew and nectarine, the better this smoothie tastes. Ripe fruit makes the smoothie taste naturally like dessert!
Freeze for thickness: Toss the chunks of fruit in the freezer for a few hours. It gives a thick smoothie texture. If you’re new to smoothies, check out my guide on how to make a smoothie.
Freeze portions: Make extra portions and freeze them in individual cups or ice cube trays like I do in my elderberry smoothie cubes. You can also learn to make frozen meal prep smoothie packs in my guide.

Easy Swaps and Add-Ins
One of the best things about this honeydew smoothie recipe is its deliciousness paired with how easily it adapts, making it perfect for picky little taste buds.
- Swap the coconut water: Use almond or oat milk as the base. Each gives a slightly different flavor and creaminess. You can check out my blog on the best almond milk brands and the best oat milk brands.
- Try other fruits: Peach, mango, or even a bit of pineapple works beautifully if nectarines aren’t available. If you’re looking for healthy fruit options, you can check out my low-sugar fruits list.
- Add some protein: Sneak in a scoop of my homemade protein powder, Greek yogurt, or homemade nut butter to make it more filling.
- Boost the greens: Replace spinach with kale or baby chard for extra nutrients. The kids won’t even notice! You can use my leafy green vegetables guide for help.

Helpful Tools
Notes
- Choose a ripe honeydew: A ripe honeydew should feel heavy for its size and have a slightly waxy, pale yellow rind. The sweeter the melon, the better your smoothie will taste.
- Freeze before blending: For the most refreshing flavor, chill your honeydew before blending or use frozen chunks of nectarine for a colder, slushier texture.
- Adjust sweetness if needed: Honeydew is naturally sweet, but you can add a splash of maple syrup or honey if your melon isn’t very ripe.
- Blend time matters: Blend until completely smooth to break down the melon fibers and achieve a silky texture.

Honeydew pairs beautifully with milk. It makes the smoothie creamier and adds a bit of protein, which is great for kids or anyone needing a more filling snack. Almond or oat, all work, so feel free to experiment.
Honeydew is rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and water, which help support the body’s natural inflammation response. It’s also gentle on little tummies, making it a great choice for kids and sensitive digestion.
Yes! Frozen honeydew works perfectly, especially if you want a thick, icy smoothie without adding ice. You can freeze cubes ahead of time, which is a lifesaver for busy mornings or a quick summer treat.
Both work, depending on the texture you want. Chilled or frozen melon makes the smoothie thicker and creamier, while room-temperature melon creates a lighter, easier-to-blend drink.

Hi, can you use a juicer instead?
Hi Tracey! You can give it a try, yet I don’t think you’ll get the same result.
I wasn’t so sure about the honeydew yet I mostly tasted the nectarine which was delicious.
Hi Erin! I wasn’t sure about the honeydew either yet it all comes together so nicely!
