What should I eat while drinking green smoothies?

Question: Am I supposed to just drink green smoothies the rest of my life?
Answer: No way!

Whether you are doing Simple 7 or not, the goal is never to only drink green smoothies—we want you to eat normal meals, too! Having one green smoothie a day without even changing your regular diet moves you in the right direction towards healthy eating. That’s what the green smoothie lifestyle is all about!

However, if you’re looking for a little more guidance when it comes to what else you should be eating while you’re gulping the greens, we suggest you eat real food that is free of processed sugars and ingredients.

A general rule for us: “If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.”

We love replacing one meal a day with a green smoothie or having it as a snack, but you can bump it up to two meal replacements if you’d like! When drinking a green smoothie as a meal replacement, make sure to add a protein boost (plant-based protein powder, nut milk, nut butter) and healthy fats (avocado, coconut oil) to complete your meal. Or, you can snack on some nuts or a hard-boiled egg 30-60 minutes after you drink your green smoothie. This will keep you satisfied throughout the day.

    Thanks so much for reaching out! We personally do not use green smoothies as part of a fast or restrictive diet. We recommend including green smoothies as part of a balanced diet :).     So if i have spinich 2glasses of water bananna and kiwi blended twice a day and 1 healthy meal this will help with weight loss?? Confused but intrested in this..

    It’s important to know, that although weight loss can be a happy side effect of incorporating green smoothies into your diet, we always want to remind our community members that weight loss does not happen in the same way for everyone. Any long-lasting change takes time, and healthy eating is no exception. If you stick with it, you’ll eventually see results.

    Hi Pat,

    You definitely can! I love making popcorn on the stovetop with grapeseed oil and sea salt! But if you join one of our cleanses, either Fresh Start 21 or Thrive, we suggest avoiding popcorn during those.

    Hi Semone! 🙂
    As long as you are not allergic to the ingredients, you should be fine. My son was born with allergies (he sneezed when he was born!). He lived away from me as a teenager out of state. He discovered that he is allergic to the pesticides used on regular fruits and vegetables, which is understandable. So, go organic whenever possible (expensive but worth it), but google to search for which fruits and vegetables that you don’t have to go organic to enjoy safely.

    Thank you for sharing that about your son. I am so sorry to hear about the allergies that he has. We always love to recommend everyone to go organic if they can. It is definitely worth the extra money. If you have a local farmers market in your area and you know they do not use pesticides, that is even better!
