Common Questions

Do I only drink green smoothies during this challenge?

This is not a juice fast or a restrictive diet, so you can eat regular meals during The 30-Day Challenge challenge. We are making healthy lifestyle changes that will last a lifetime! Our goal for you is to drink at least one 2-cup serving green smoothie a day in addition to regular meals. If you would like, you can replace 1 or 2 meals with green smoothies. If you drink green smoothies as meal replacements, make sure to add a protein boost (plant-based protein powder, nut milk, nut butter), or snack on some nuts or a hard-boiled egg 30-60 minutes after you drink your green smoothie.


What should I eat during the challenge?

Just by drinking green smoothies daily without even changing your regular diet, you are moving in the right direction towards healthy eating. We are not meal plan experts, but we suggest you eat real food that’s free of processed sugar and avoid ingredients that you can’t pronounce. My personal meal plan during the green smoothie diet will be paleo-inspired with lots of veggies and some seafood (both Jen and I are pescatarians).

Can I make up my own green smoothies or do I have to follow the ones in the guide?

You don’t have to stick to making every single green smoothie recipe in the guide or follow a certain order. You can rotate, experiment and try out new recipes on your own.

This challenge is beginner-friendly. The shopping lists are designed for guidance and inspiration. So feel free to make some of the recipes from the list, repeat your favorites, and create your own green smoothie recipes.


Will you send me recipes every day?

As soon as you purchase The 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge Guide, you will receive an email with the guide in PDF format, which includes recipes and shopping lists.

How many calories are in each green smoothie?

We personally don’t count calories, so we don’t include them in our recipes at this time. You’ll find that when you consume more nourishing whole fruits and veggies, you will not only feel full longer, but you’ll also have lessened cravings for high-calorie, nutritionally empty foods. So in the end it balances out. But we know many people would like to have calorie info. A great resource for tracking calories My Fitness Pal.


What do I do if I don’t have a certain ingredient in your recipes where I live?

Just swap it for an ingredient you do have access to. Your Farmer’s Market is a great place to see which fruits and leafy greens are in season.

The best part is playing mini-chef with your blender. Not one smoothie will please everybody, but I promise over the next 30 days you will find a recipe that is your go-to smoothie. It will be the one you make for your friends and family and make them a green smoothie lover too. So explore, experiment, and smile!


Do I need a certain blender to make these smoothies?

You don’t need a fancy blender to make our smoothies– any blender will do. We want green smoothies to be available to everyone no matter what their budget is, so please don’t feel like you need an expensive blender to join the challenge. A tip to avoid leafy chunks is to blend your leafy greens and water first until you get a juice-like consistency. Then add the remaining ingredients and blend again.


How many servings do your recipes make?

Most of our smoothies make about 4 – 5 cups (32 – 40 oz)– we call this family style. A serving size is 2 cups. So if you are making a smoothie for just one person, you can half the recipes and shopping lists. Or, save the leftovers for a second meal replacement, or drink the following day (now you only have to blend every other day). You can store leftover smoothies in an airtight container with a lid for 1 to 3 days. Fresh is always best, but you will still get plenty of the nutrients your body needs if you drink a leftover smoothie.

    Hiya, just a quick question….can you make up smoothies and freeze them?
    I have been doing the challenge and haven’t felt this good in years, i’m totally hooked and i’m doing two a day. I’m trying to get a friend into them too, but she has a new baby and would be much easier for her to be able to do a batch, freeze them, then take out to defrost the night before.
    Thanks for all your inspiration and changing my life, its totally changed me, never gona stop i love it!

    I am looking forward to the July challenge. I hope to lose about 10-15lbs. I completed the 10 day smoothie cleanse about a month ago and lost 10lbs, but I have been at a standstill. I started Zumba again and have been going 3-4 days a week. I’m looking forward to my results. Thanks!!!

    Hi girls, I am completely new to green smoothies, have never had one in my life, but am very excited to start slurping in all this goodness!! Just wondering if there is anything I need to keep in mind or things to avoid as I am currently breastfeeding?? Also do you know if it is ok for me to substitute a meal with a smoothie if I add protein to it whilst breastfeeding?

    Just wanted to thank you guys for a awesome website! I started last year but then my blender broke down. Finally I invested in a new one and I’m blending again since last week. I just wanted to share with you how big effect green smoothies are having on my life. I am full of energy the whole day, I don’t have the same desire or need for coffee, I stopped eating candy (not on purpose) AND I don’t have appetite for unhealthy food or snacks! I feel great and no more dozing on the couch in front of the TV in the afternoons. THANK YOU!

    Unfortunately I have missed the entire January 30 day challenge. When does your next challenge start?
    Also I am type one diabetic. I am in very good control of my weight, blood sugars etc. But because I am on an insulin pump I have to count carbs. What would be the best way to do this while taking part in the smoothy challenges? Can’t wait to start, I am signed up and practicing with this last week of smoothy recipes.

      The next challenge starts in April :-) We recommend using “My Fitness Pal” or “Lose It” to count nutritional info. They are both Websites and Phone Apps!

    Hi ladies! The challenge is going great! I am a day behind you guys, so I am on day 15. I did purchase the 30 day challenge guide a few months back and it is very helpful. Can you send me the week #3 shopping list. I started making my green smoothies with the Hamilton Beach -Pulse- To Go Cup- and it worked really good. I recently purchased the Nutri Bullet and it works good too.

    I am also allergic to Bananas but you can put a ripe avocado in the smoothies or melons to help give it that smooth texture. Really you can just increase the other fruits that you are using in your smoothie and it works great.

      Hi Victoria! We do LIVE challenges four times a year (January, April, July and October). So there will not be a live one in August. Yet if you wish to do the 30-Day Challenge on your own, we recommend getting the eGuide because it has all the recipes, shopping lists and challenges from the January Challenge. You can do that and then join us for our live October Challenge which will have new recipes and weekly challenges.
