What should I eat while drinking green smoothies?

Question: Am I supposed to just drink green smoothies the rest of my life?
Answer: No way!

Whether you are doing a 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge or not, the goal is never to only drink green smoothies—we want you to eat normal meals, too! Having one green smoothie a day without even changing your regular diet moves you in the right direction towards healthy eating. That’s what the green smoothie lifestyle is all about!

However, if you’re looking for a little more guidance when it comes to what else you should be eating while you’re gulping the greens, we suggest you eat real food that is free of processed sugars and ingredients.

A general rule for us: “If you can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it.”

We love replacing one meal a day with a green smoothie or having it as a snack, but you can bump it up to two meal replacements if you’d like! When drinking a green smoothie as a meal replacement, make sure to add a protein boost (plant-based protein powder, nut milk, nut butter) and healthy fats (avocado, coconut oil) to complete your meal. Or, you can snack on some nuts or a hard-boiled egg 30-60 minutes after you drink your green smoothie. This will keep you satisfied throughout the day.

    I read in several literature that consume food high in purin may cause gouty arthritis and I believe many of leafy green vegetables are high in purin. Has anyone reported frequent gout attack when continuesly consuming green smoothies? I am asking this because my father wanna participate in 30 days challenge but he has gout arthritis. Thank;s

    Is it ok to use the 100% Carrot Juice that can be found in supermarkets in my smoothes?

      Hey Mary,

      Great questions. A lot of time 100% juice still includes harsh products to preserve the juice. We prefer juicing your own juice for your smoothies. :)

    is it safe to use young fresh stinging nettles or dock leaves in a smoothie? I know we can use dandelion leaves.

    32 oz for a smoothie is okay, right? I’m drinking it for breakfast and lunch

      Hey Pamela!

      Our smoothie recipes make about 4-5 cups (32oz – 40oz). Jadah drinks at least 2 cups (16 oz) everyday in the morning as a breakfast meal replacement. Jen drinks hers for lunch or sometimes as a mid morning snack Since green smoothies are full of fiber, they keep us both full for a while. If either of us needs afternoon pick-me-ups, we have been known to make another green smoothie later in the day instead of drinking a caffeinated beverage.

    OK ladies I need more of a challenge! I just got a Vitamix 3600 and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! But I have been drinking green smoothies for over a year and a half. I need something more challenging!
    I eat protein until noon, then vegetarian till bed. No processed foods or sugars, no four products, no red meat (not for 40 years!).

    So throw something at me more challenging!!
