Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredients
- Water is a simple, underrated smoothie base. It keeps the flavor clean, light, and refreshing without overpowering the fruit.
- Avocado adds healthy fats that boost creaminess, help you stay full, and improve vitamin absorption.
- Banana brings natural sweetness and smooth texture that balances the greens.
- Mango adds extra creaminess, masks any “green” taste, and delivers vitamins A and C.
- Protein powder: Adding about 20 grams of unflavored, unsweetened protein powder balances the fats from avocado and carbs from fruit. It helps keep you full, supports muscle recovery, and lets the smoothie’s natural flavors shine without added sugars or fillers.
Expert Tips
We used water as our liquid base to keep the calories down, yet you can use almond milk, oat milk or even coconut water with this avocado smoothie recipe.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add water and spinach to a blender and blend on high until completely smooth. This helps break down the greens for a creamy base.
- Add avocado, frozen mango, and banana, then blend again until thick and creamy.
- Adjust with more water if needed, taste, and add a squeeze of lemon or lime if desired.
- Add in protein powder and blend on low until thick and creamy to minimize aeration
- Pour and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.

Ingredient Swaps
Here’s a few suggestions to help you swap ingredients based on what you have on hand.
- Sweetness: Mango or pear (instead of banana).
- Creaminess/Protein: Greek yogurt.
- Avocado Replacement: Cashews or coconut cream.
- Mango Alternatives: Pineapple, peach, or berries (strawberries or blueberries)

Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to experiment by adding other ingredients to this smoothie. Here’s a few I would suggest trying with this avocado banana smoothie recipe:
- Chia seeds: A tablespoon or two adds a boost of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. They have a mild flavor and thicken the smoothie slightly.
- Kale: Don’t be afraid to add more greens! Kale is a nutritional powerhouse with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and antioxidants.
- Ginger: A small piece of fresh ginger adds a zesty kick and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Add more liquid, such as water, milk (dairy or non-dairy), or juice, a little at a time, and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
Yes, as long as the avocado isn’t overly brown or mushy. A slightly soft avocado is fine for blending.
While the banana contributes sweetness and creaminess, you could try using mango, pear, or even a bit of honey or maple syrup for sweetness. The texture might be slightly different.
Yes, frozen avocado chunks are available and work well in smoothies. They also help make the smoothie colder and thicker.
Yes! The bananas and avocados lend a creaminess to the whole smoothie while boosting the fiber and adding some natural sweetness for a quick energy boost. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, reducing cardiovascular disease risk. They’re also rich in potassium, essential for balancing blood pressure.
They sure do. Bananas and avocados blend into a creamy, subtly sweet mix, ideal for smoothies. The banana’s sweetness masks the avocado’s mild flavor, creating a delicious and nutritious combination.

I enjoyed this green smoothie. The only thing I did wrong was I didn’t use frozen mangoes but fresh. Where the smoothie was smooth and creamy it wasn’t really cold enough. So word to the wise if it calls for frozen fruit at least pop your fresh fruit in the freezer that morning
Hey Vickie,
It is 100% not wrong to use fresh fruits in place of frozen fruits. That is always an option for any and all smoothies and fresh fruits are sometimes a little sweeter! Frozen fruits just make smoothies colder, plus you can buy a large bag and it lasts forever!
I used a little less avocado and added some water to thin it down a bit. The flavor blend is delicious.
This is so delicious and creamy! I used half water/half coconut milk, added a teaspoon of bee pollen and a scoop of my green good powder. Awesome smoothie. It left me feeling thankful to start my day fueled with good stuff
I love how creamy it is! Avocado in smoothies is a game changer!
This is delicious not much of an avacado fan but this changed my mind!!
Thank you
Looks like green slime but the taste is delicious!
I used 1/4 avocado since 1/2 seemed like a lot. Still super creamy. My banana and mango were frozen as well. I like the way the mango covers up the spinach flavor.
Very refreshing smoothie. I love green smoothies this is my new favorite

This was really refreshing!! I have never thought to include an avocado in my smoothie, but I’m sure glad I tried it! This recipe is a keeper!
This smoothie is good, but am a creamy smoothie kinda girl. I think I would have enjoyed it even more so if instead of regular water, try coconut water or coconut milk lite or regular.
Great idea, Dina! You can always switch up the liquid base to be more of your preference. This one would be great with coconut water or milk!
Also not a avocado fan. The mango/banana was awesome! This was great..
Overall good I just threw in an extra banana to thicken it up.
Unfortunately im allergic to avocado ! but I would throw in extra banana in its place I love green smoothies, yum!
Maybe I used too much spinach but I did not like it. Very healthy though
Healthy, smooth, and tasty! Filling for sure!!!
Great drink. I did not add the protein powder to mine though. Nice and thick.
