Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredients
- Water is a simple, underrated smoothie base. It keeps the flavor clean, light, and refreshing without overpowering the fruit.
- Avocado adds healthy fats that boost creaminess, help you stay full, and improve vitamin absorption.
- Banana brings natural sweetness and smooth texture that balances the greens.
- Mango adds extra creaminess, masks any “green” taste, and delivers vitamins A and C.
- Protein powder: Adding about 20 grams of unflavored, unsweetened protein powder balances the fats from avocado and carbs from fruit. It helps keep you full, supports muscle recovery, and lets the smoothie’s natural flavors shine without added sugars or fillers.
Expert Tips
We used water as our liquid base to keep the calories down, yet you can use almond milk, oat milk or even coconut water with this avocado smoothie recipe.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add water and spinach to a blender and blend on high until completely smooth. This helps break down the greens for a creamy base.
- Add avocado, frozen mango, and banana, then blend again until thick and creamy.
- Adjust with more water if needed, taste, and add a squeeze of lemon or lime if desired.
- Add in protein powder and blend on low until thick and creamy to minimize aeration
- Pour and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.

Ingredient Swaps
Here’s a few suggestions to help you swap ingredients based on what you have on hand.
- Sweetness: Mango or pear (instead of banana).
- Creaminess/Protein: Greek yogurt.
- Avocado Replacement: Cashews or coconut cream.
- Mango Alternatives: Pineapple, peach, or berries (strawberries or blueberries)

Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to experiment by adding other ingredients to this smoothie. Here’s a few I would suggest trying with this avocado banana smoothie recipe:
- Chia seeds: A tablespoon or two adds a boost of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. They have a mild flavor and thicken the smoothie slightly.
- Kale: Don’t be afraid to add more greens! Kale is a nutritional powerhouse with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and antioxidants.
- Ginger: A small piece of fresh ginger adds a zesty kick and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Add more liquid, such as water, milk (dairy or non-dairy), or juice, a little at a time, and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
Yes, as long as the avocado isn’t overly brown or mushy. A slightly soft avocado is fine for blending.
While the banana contributes sweetness and creaminess, you could try using mango, pear, or even a bit of honey or maple syrup for sweetness. The texture might be slightly different.
Yes, frozen avocado chunks are available and work well in smoothies. They also help make the smoothie colder and thicker.
Yes! The bananas and avocados lend a creaminess to the whole smoothie while boosting the fiber and adding some natural sweetness for a quick energy boost. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, reducing cardiovascular disease risk. They’re also rich in potassium, essential for balancing blood pressure.
They sure do. Bananas and avocados blend into a creamy, subtly sweet mix, ideal for smoothies. The banana’s sweetness masks the avocado’s mild flavor, creating a delicious and nutritious combination.

This smoothies is delicious! I’ve been making it daily for breakfast and still not tired of it.
This was definitely creamy but I thought the taste was rather bland.
Tasty but a bit thick so I added an extra cup of water.
Love the creamy texture!!!
Great taste, I love avocado is smoothie.
Smooth and creamy. These are some of my favorite smoothie combinations. Delicious!
This is super creamy- like maybe too creamy for me. The taste is good but next time I’ll cut down on the avocado I think.
I wasn’t excited to see avocado on the menu. I’m not too fond of them on sandwiches. But this Avocado and Banana recipe is actually really yummy! Surprisingly I drank the whole thing without a problem at all!!
I can’t wait for tomorrow to try the next recipe!! Yum !!!
Enjoyed the smoothie, as it brought two new things to my diet repertoire. This is the second avocado I’ve ever eaten. (The first was last week when I did a test run on this smoothie.) Second was spinach in a blender. Not sure what I expected, but the overall combination of flavors and nutrients seems well suited to my taste and health. Next time I’ll use coconut water, not for any great reason, just a “fuller” taste.
Easy, delicious flavor, night texture and color too! Pre prep really helps 🙂
I have been making this smoothie for the last several days. Very yummy! Very creamy due to the avocado that you can’t even taste. So if you don’t like the taste but want the benefits this is the smoothie for you!
I need a few dates or something added. I think if you’re not using fresh fruit that you freeze, you can’t determine the sweetness of the fruit prior to adding. If I do this again, I’ll probably buy a fresh mango and banana to determine the level of sweetness ..cut them up and freeze them for smoothies. I like the creaminess of the avocado.
Super creamy and simple. The avocado makes the smoothie very satisfying. Spoon recommended!
A few simple ingredients with big flavor!! Love the creamy texture! I used almond milk instead of water, but after blending it was pretty thick so I added some water to thin it out a bit. Yummy!
Very tasty and filling. I must not have blended it long enough, though, as it was a little gritty. Would definitely try it again!
This smoothie was creamy, filling, and delicious. The mango gives it just the right amount of sweetness! I added the homemade protein powder to make it my breakfast and I have been full for hours!
