Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredients

  • Water is a simple, underrated smoothie base. It keeps the flavor clean, light, and refreshing without overpowering the fruit.
  • Avocado adds healthy fats that boost creaminess, helps you stay full, and improves vitamin absorption. Cut avocado like a pro with my guide.
  • Banana brings natural sweetness and smooth texture that balances the greens. If you like thick smoothies, you can freeze bananas ahead of time.
  • Mango adds extra creaminess, masks any “green” taste, and delivers vitamins A and C. For quick prep, check out my guide on how to cut mango.
  • Protein powder: Adding about 20 grams of unflavored, homemade protein powder balances the fats from avocado and carbs from fruit. It helps keep you full, supports muscle recovery, and lets the smoothie’s natural flavors shine without added sugars or fillers.

How to Make Avocado Banana Smoothie

  1. Add water and spinach to a blender and blend on high until completely smooth. This helps break down the greens for a creamy base.
  2. Add avocado, frozen mango, and banana, then blend again until thick and creamy.
  3. Adjust with more water if needed, taste, and add a squeeze of lemon or lime if desired.
  4. Add in protein powder and blend on low until thick and creamy to minimize aeration.
  5. Pour and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.

Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredient Swaps

Here’s a few suggestions to help you swap ingredients based on what you have on hand.

  • Sweetness: Mango or pear (instead of banana).
  • Creaminess/Protein: Greek yogurt.
  • Avocado Replacement: Cashew or coconut cream.
  • Mango Alternatives: Pineapple, peach, or berries (strawberries or blueberries)

Smoothie Add-Ins

Feel free to experiment by adding other ingredients to this smoothie. Here’s a few I would suggest trying with this avocado banana smoothie recipe:

  1. Chia seeds: A tablespoon or two adds a boost of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. They have a mild flavor and thicken the smoothie slightly.
  2. Kale: Don’t be afraid to add more greens! Kale is a nutritional powerhouse with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and antioxidants. You can also check out my guide on learn how to freeze kale.
  3. Ginger: A small piece of fresh ginger adds a zesty kick and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Common Questions

My smoothie is too thick. How can I thin it out?

Add more liquid, such as water, milk (dairy or non-dairy), or juice, a little at a time, and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.

Can I use a ripe but not-quite-perfect avocado?

Yes, as long as the avocado isn’t overly brown or mushy. A slightly soft avocado is fine for blending.

Can I substitute the banana with something else?

While the banana contributes sweetness and creaminess, you could try using mango, pear, or even a bit of honey or maple syrup for sweetness. The texture might be slightly different.

Can I use frozen avocado?

Yes, frozen avocado chunks are available and work well in smoothies. They also help make the smoothie colder and thicker. For busy mornings, you can include them in frozen meal prep smoothie packs so you always have ready-to-blend ingredients on hand.

Is avocado and banana smoothie good for you?

Yes! The bananas and avocados lend a creaminess to the whole smoothie while boosting the fiber and adding some natural sweetness for a quick energy boost. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, reducing cardiovascular disease risk. They’re also rich in potassium, essential for balancing blood pressure.

Do banana and avocado taste good together?

They sure do. Bananas and avocados blend into a creamy, subtly sweet mix, ideal for smoothies. The banana’s sweetness masks the avocado’s mild flavor, creating a delicious and nutritious combination.

It taste good. I haven’t much experience with Mango so it’s a new taste to me. I like the creamy texture.

    1. Hey Toni, mango is an amazing ingredient in smoothies! Especially if you want to sweeten things up. I’m glad you liked it!

I loved making my VERY FIRST SMOOTHIE. Loved the fruit and veggie combos. This was also the very first time using my E320 Vitamix! This was the creamiest smoothie, not a trace of pulp at all. Can’t wait for day two!

I like the creaminess of this smoothie, but it tastes a bit bland. I added some fresh ginger to mine and that helped.

    1. Wow Shelby, adding ginger not only brings in more flavor but also boosts the nutrients while also aiding in digestion.

  8. I really liked this smoothie. It was so rich and creamy. I changed it up only by changing the water to coconut water and it was really good with the mango.

My avo was small so that made the smoothie creamy but not too thick.
The springtime green color made for eye candy, and I’m wondering what kind of protein piwder would b good in it.

This is only day 1 and I am blown away with how easy and delicious this smoothie is! I cannot wait to try the next 9!

  10. I’ve never bought an avocado in my life. I surprised how easy it was to use. The smoothly tasted good but I wonder if I over blended because it was a little frothy. I will probably have it again.

Wonderful and Refreshing! I was going to add my protein to it, but I only have chocolate flavor. I’m glad I didn’t. Taste great.

I made this using coconut milk and ice instead of plain water. I also added coconut yogurt. I also added a protein powder I use. The result was creamy, delicious.

  13. I enjoyed the avocado/ banana smoothie so much. I started drinking and went for another drink, I had already finished it! I added a scoop of protein powder. I thought next time I would add chia seeds.

If you like thick, creamy smoothies… This is it! Just enough water to blend like a dream in my Vitamix, but the avacado and banana really add some body to this smoothie, with the mango adding that hint of tropical sweetness. Satisfying enough to be a year round smoothie and a keeper for me Yum!

Super smooth, fun/easy to make AND delicious! I had no avocado, so I substituted with frozen butternut squash.
