Why You’ll Love It
- Quick and tasty: Blends in minutes with a naturally creamy, refreshing flavor that feels like a treat.
- Balanced meal replacement: Healthy fats, fruit carbs, and about 20 grams of protein help keep you full and energized.
- Nutritional powerhouse: Packed with fiber, potassium, leafy greens, and vitamins to fuel your day the plant-based way.

Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredients
- Water is a simple, underrated smoothie base. It keeps the flavor clean, light, and refreshing without overpowering the fruit.
- Avocado adds healthy fats that boost creaminess, help you stay full, and improve vitamin absorption.
- Banana brings natural sweetness and smooth texture that balances the greens.
- Mango adds extra creaminess, masks any “green” taste, and delivers vitamins A and C.
- Protein powder: Adding about 20 grams of unflavored, unsweetened protein powder balances the fats from avocado and carbs from fruit. It helps keep you full, supports muscle recovery, and lets the smoothie’s natural flavors shine without added sugars or fillers.
Expert Tips
We used water as our liquid base to keep the calories down, yet you can use almond milk, oat milk or even coconut water with this avocado smoothie recipe.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add water and spinach to a blender and blend on high until completely smooth. This helps break down the greens for a creamy base.
- Add avocado, frozen mango, and banana, then blend again until thick and creamy.
- Adjust with more water if needed, taste, and add a squeeze of lemon or lime if desired.
- Add in protein powder and blend on low until thick and creamy to minimize aeration
- Pour and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.

Ingredient Swaps
Here’s a few suggestions to help you swap ingredients based on what you have on hand.
- Sweetness: Mango or pear (instead of banana).
- Creaminess/Protein: Greek yogurt.
- Avocado Replacement: Cashews or coconut cream.
- Mango Alternatives: Pineapple, peach, or berries (strawberries or blueberries)

Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to experiment by adding other ingredients to this smoothie. Here’s a few I would suggest trying with this avocado banana smoothie recipe:
- Chia seeds: A tablespoon or two adds a boost of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. They have a mild flavor and thicken the smoothie slightly.
- Kale: Don’t be afraid to add more greens! Kale is a nutritional powerhouse with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and antioxidants.
- Ginger: A small piece of fresh ginger adds a zesty kick and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Add more liquid, such as water, milk (dairy or non-dairy), or juice, a little at a time, and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
Yes, as long as the avocado isn’t overly brown or mushy. A slightly soft avocado is fine for blending.
While the banana contributes sweetness and creaminess, you could try using mango, pear, or even a bit of honey or maple syrup for sweetness. The texture might be slightly different.
Yes, frozen avocado chunks are available and work well in smoothies. They also help make the smoothie colder and thicker.
Yes! The bananas and avocados lend a creaminess to the whole smoothie while boosting the fiber and adding some natural sweetness for a quick energy boost. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, reducing cardiovascular disease risk. They’re also rich in potassium, essential for balancing blood pressure.
They sure do. Bananas and avocados blend into a creamy, subtly sweet mix, ideal for smoothies. The banana’s sweetness masks the avocado’s mild flavor, creating a delicious and nutritious combination.

Very creamy I would prefer a little more flavor such as another fruit or such very easy to make
I really liked this smoothie. It was so rich and creamy. I changed it up only by changing the water to coconut water and it was really good with the mango.
My avo was small so that made the smoothie creamy but not too thick.
The springtime green color made for eye candy, and I’m wondering what kind of protein piwder would b good in it.
This is only day 1 and I am blown away with how easy and delicious this smoothie is! I cannot wait to try the next 9!
I’ve never bought an avocado in my life. I surprised how easy it was to use. The smoothly tasted good but I wonder if I over blended because it was a little frothy. I will probably have it again.
Wonderful and Refreshing! I was going to add my protein to it, but I only have chocolate flavor. I’m glad I didn’t. Taste great.
I made this using coconut milk and ice instead of plain water. I also added coconut yogurt. I also added a protein powder I use. The result was creamy, delicious.
I enjoyed the avocado/ banana smoothie so much. I started drinking and went for another drink, I had already finished it! I added a scoop of protein powder. I thought next time I would add chia seeds.
The taste is amazing and very fresh! What I love is that in only one drink it can be full of nutrients and too many benefits for your body and skin. Thank you for sharing this recipe 🙂
This is one of my favorite smoothies. I use coconut water to make it even more refreshing.
If you like thick, creamy smoothies… This is it! Just enough water to blend like a dream in my Vitamix, but the avacado and banana really add some body to this smoothie, with the mango adding that hint of tropical sweetness. Satisfying enough to be a year round smoothie and a keeper for me Yum!
Super smooth, fun/easy to make AND delicious! I had no avocado, so I substituted with frozen butternut squash.
Thanks for the recipe!
The texture was great, but the taste was just okay.

Super creamy and very filling
This recipe was delicious! I couldn’t notice the spinach but it had a nice fruity taste. Even the kids said it was yummy! Can’t wait to try more recipes! The kids helped me prep for the week, using the tips from Simple Green Smoothie, which made it SO easy!
I am not a smoothie person, but like trying new things. I’m adding the protein boost to each smoothie. I may go back and try all the recipes without it once the challenge is over.
I wasn’t wild about the first recipe. I liked the ingredients though.
I’m so glad you’re giving the smoothies a try. You’ll def start learning what you like and don’t like about smoothies and then you’ll be able to blend the perfect one for you!
Absolutely loved it! I was completed surprised by this one.
