Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredients
- Water is a simple, underrated smoothie base. It keeps the flavor clean, light, and refreshing without overpowering the fruit.
- Avocado adds healthy fats that boost creaminess, help you stay full, and improve vitamin absorption.
- Banana brings natural sweetness and smooth texture that balances the greens.
- Mango adds extra creaminess, masks any “green” taste, and delivers vitamins A and C.
- Protein powder: Adding about 20 grams of unflavored, unsweetened protein powder balances the fats from avocado and carbs from fruit. It helps keep you full, supports muscle recovery, and lets the smoothie’s natural flavors shine without added sugars or fillers.
Expert Tips
We used water as our liquid base to keep the calories down, yet you can use almond milk, oat milk or even coconut water with this avocado smoothie recipe.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add water and spinach to a blender and blend on high until completely smooth. This helps break down the greens for a creamy base.
- Add avocado, frozen mango, and banana, then blend again until thick and creamy.
- Adjust with more water if needed, taste, and add a squeeze of lemon or lime if desired.
- Add in protein powder and blend on low until thick and creamy to minimize aeration
- Pour and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.

Ingredient Swaps
Here’s a few suggestions to help you swap ingredients based on what you have on hand.
- Sweetness: Mango or pear (instead of banana).
- Creaminess/Protein: Greek yogurt.
- Avocado Replacement: Cashews or coconut cream.
- Mango Alternatives: Pineapple, peach, or berries (strawberries or blueberries)

Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to experiment by adding other ingredients to this smoothie. Here’s a few I would suggest trying with this avocado banana smoothie recipe:
- Chia seeds: A tablespoon or two adds a boost of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. They have a mild flavor and thicken the smoothie slightly.
- Kale: Don’t be afraid to add more greens! Kale is a nutritional powerhouse with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and antioxidants.
- Ginger: A small piece of fresh ginger adds a zesty kick and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Add more liquid, such as water, milk (dairy or non-dairy), or juice, a little at a time, and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
Yes, as long as the avocado isn’t overly brown or mushy. A slightly soft avocado is fine for blending.
While the banana contributes sweetness and creaminess, you could try using mango, pear, or even a bit of honey or maple syrup for sweetness. The texture might be slightly different.
Yes, frozen avocado chunks are available and work well in smoothies. They also help make the smoothie colder and thicker.
Yes! The bananas and avocados lend a creaminess to the whole smoothie while boosting the fiber and adding some natural sweetness for a quick energy boost. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, reducing cardiovascular disease risk. They’re also rich in potassium, essential for balancing blood pressure.
They sure do. Bananas and avocados blend into a creamy, subtly sweet mix, ideal for smoothies. The banana’s sweetness masks the avocado’s mild flavor, creating a delicious and nutritious combination.

Great combo of flavors! I can not have bananas so I substituted it with dates. I also can not have spinach so I used a mixed greens powder.
So creamy and awesome !! Very filling, I very much enjoyed the flavour and texture
I love how the ingredients complemented one another. I also felt like it had just the right amount of thickness. I’m just sorry I didn’t get the chance to start my day off with this smoothie to enjoy the benefits throughout the day.
I really enjoyed the taste of this smoothie, I usually never put avocado, but I will going forward I really liked the creamy texture and with the added protein it’s really filling for a meal replacement
I loved the Avocado Banana Smoothie! I will keep this recipe & use it again and again.
Delicious! Blending spinach with water first is a game changer!
Avocado Banana Smoothie was ok. I added a bit more spinach and simple Green Protein Powder. I thought this smoothie would be sweeter than it was. Oh well – I still like smoothies!
Very good! I think that I may add a little lemon juice in the future.
Banana and avocado are great base ingredients individually. When both are combined in this recipe with spinach —-makes a great tasty and nutritional smoothie.
I could have used a bit sweeter mango – other than that I give it 5 stars.
It was goood, but I think I agree with some commenters…it need more mango. It was super thick. Def had to add more water to get it moving. Not sure if this was because it was super thick.
It had a more sweeter taste than I thought it would. Balanced taste and you couldn’t tell it had spinach. I enjoyed it and will make it more often.
Great way to add some fruits and vegetables to my diet. Nice and smooth and VERY green! It didn’t have a lot of flavor. I almost used the whole banana and wish that I had, maybe more mango, too.
Excellent! This smoothie is creamy and tasty. I was worried that it would taste too “green”, but the banana gave it the perfect flavor!
Yummm! I am a smoothie/blender junkie! Love my vita-mix! This Avocado Banana Smoothie was great! I made just a few minor adjustments… I know that anytime I blend banana and avocado together it creates a little bit of a thickness that makes it hard to pour… Adding a little extra liquid helps. I’ll keep it thick sometimes and make it into a smoothie bowl. And if I want to thin it out, I pour it into the glass and added a touch more of some coconut water and stir until blended. Don’t need to re-blend and add more air into it. This smoothie was great and using a Vitamix blender helps keep it nice and smooth. It could even be a smoothie bowl topped with some granola and fresh fruit. I added a couple scoops of plant-based protein. No weird aftertaste… I did add a little extra spinach and mango, Cuz I love it!
Amazing review, Jack! Couldn’t agree more – this would be an incredible smoothie bowl!
Loved the flavors in this smoothie!
The avocado banana smoothie was perfect…I used frozen avocado which made it nice and thick and cold!
