Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredients
- Water is a simple, underrated smoothie base. It keeps the flavor clean, light, and refreshing without overpowering the fruit.
- Avocado adds healthy fats that boost creaminess, help you stay full, and improve vitamin absorption.
- Banana brings natural sweetness and smooth texture that balances the greens.
- Mango adds extra creaminess, masks any “green” taste, and delivers vitamins A and C.
- Protein powder: Adding about 20 grams of unflavored, unsweetened protein powder balances the fats from avocado and carbs from fruit. It helps keep you full, supports muscle recovery, and lets the smoothie’s natural flavors shine without added sugars or fillers.
Expert Tips
We used water as our liquid base to keep the calories down, yet you can use almond milk, oat milk or even coconut water with this avocado smoothie recipe.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add water and spinach to a blender and blend on high until completely smooth. This helps break down the greens for a creamy base.
- Add avocado, frozen mango, and banana, then blend again until thick and creamy.
- Adjust with more water if needed, taste, and add a squeeze of lemon or lime if desired.
- Add in protein powder and blend on low until thick and creamy to minimize aeration
- Pour and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.

Ingredient Swaps
Here’s a few suggestions to help you swap ingredients based on what you have on hand.
- Sweetness: Mango or pear (instead of banana).
- Creaminess/Protein: Greek yogurt.
- Avocado Replacement: Cashews or coconut cream.
- Mango Alternatives: Pineapple, peach, or berries (strawberries or blueberries)

Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to experiment by adding other ingredients to this smoothie. Here’s a few I would suggest trying with this avocado banana smoothie recipe:
- Chia seeds: A tablespoon or two adds a boost of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. They have a mild flavor and thicken the smoothie slightly.
- Kale: Don’t be afraid to add more greens! Kale is a nutritional powerhouse with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and antioxidants.
- Ginger: A small piece of fresh ginger adds a zesty kick and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Add more liquid, such as water, milk (dairy or non-dairy), or juice, a little at a time, and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
Yes, as long as the avocado isn’t overly brown or mushy. A slightly soft avocado is fine for blending.
While the banana contributes sweetness and creaminess, you could try using mango, pear, or even a bit of honey or maple syrup for sweetness. The texture might be slightly different.
Yes, frozen avocado chunks are available and work well in smoothies. They also help make the smoothie colder and thicker.
Yes! The bananas and avocados lend a creaminess to the whole smoothie while boosting the fiber and adding some natural sweetness for a quick energy boost. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, reducing cardiovascular disease risk. They’re also rich in potassium, essential for balancing blood pressure.
They sure do. Bananas and avocados blend into a creamy, subtly sweet mix, ideal for smoothies. The banana’s sweetness masks the avocado’s mild flavor, creating a delicious and nutritious combination.

This is one of my biggest go-to smoothies! I love it!
This was so good! The avocado made it creamy and the spinach was barely noticeable! Tasty!!
I made for two and we liked it. Very smooth and not too sweet. I added about 1/4 c. Ground flax in a double batch.
The smoothie is truly excellent just too many carbs and sugars for this type II diabetic. Only drank half of it to cut back on the carbs/sugars.
This was a very refreshing smoothie. It definitely wasn’t a sweet as other smoothies but still good.
This smoothie was creamy but not as smooth as I would have liked. Maybe it was the way I blended it. I used part water and part ice cubes so I wouldn’t have to pour it over ice. It was very satisfying and kept me going until lunchtime.
This is simply the most delicious smoothie ever! It satisfies that urge for something creamy while being healthy. Yum!
It was a good smoothie, but a bit on the unsweetened side. Over all very healthy!
Yummy! Creamy & good combination. Next time I’ll use hemp milk instead of water
Love the taste.
It was good
I liked the flavor however it was way too thick, i did end up adding a little honey which helped and more water
I’m not a huge banana fan, so this was just ok for me. But, it was a good way to get some spinach and avocado in. The ingredient proportions were great; a nice, smooth and creamy smoothie.
The mango-banana-advocado makes a smoothe and tasty smoothie. Onolicious!

Day 1 – Chalky taste. Liked the banana. Added water.
Wonderfully creamy texture. Very thick. Very strange taste reminds me of grass. Husband thought the flavors did not go together. I like all of these healthy ingredients, just not together.
