Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredients
- Water is a simple, underrated smoothie base. It keeps the flavor clean, light, and refreshing without overpowering the fruit.
- Avocado adds healthy fats that boost creaminess, help you stay full, and improve vitamin absorption.
- Banana brings natural sweetness and smooth texture that balances the greens.
- Mango adds extra creaminess, masks any “green” taste, and delivers vitamins A and C.
- Protein powder: Adding about 20 grams of unflavored, unsweetened protein powder balances the fats from avocado and carbs from fruit. It helps keep you full, supports muscle recovery, and lets the smoothie’s natural flavors shine without added sugars or fillers.
Expert Tips
We used water as our liquid base to keep the calories down, yet you can use almond milk, oat milk or even coconut water with this avocado smoothie recipe.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Add water and spinach to a blender and blend on high until completely smooth. This helps break down the greens for a creamy base.
- Add avocado, frozen mango, and banana, then blend again until thick and creamy.
- Adjust with more water if needed, taste, and add a squeeze of lemon or lime if desired.
- Add in protein powder and blend on low until thick and creamy to minimize aeration
- Pour and enjoy right away for the best flavor and texture.

Ingredient Swaps
Here’s a few suggestions to help you swap ingredients based on what you have on hand.
- Sweetness: Mango or pear (instead of banana).
- Creaminess/Protein: Greek yogurt.
- Avocado Replacement: Cashews or coconut cream.
- Mango Alternatives: Pineapple, peach, or berries (strawberries or blueberries)

Smoothie Add-Ins
Feel free to experiment by adding other ingredients to this smoothie. Here’s a few I would suggest trying with this avocado banana smoothie recipe:
- Chia seeds: A tablespoon or two adds a boost of fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. They have a mild flavor and thicken the smoothie slightly.
- Kale: Don’t be afraid to add more greens! Kale is a nutritional powerhouse with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium and antioxidants.
- Ginger: A small piece of fresh ginger adds a zesty kick and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Add more liquid, such as water, milk (dairy or non-dairy), or juice, a little at a time, and blend again until you reach your desired consistency.
Yes, as long as the avocado isn’t overly brown or mushy. A slightly soft avocado is fine for blending.
While the banana contributes sweetness and creaminess, you could try using mango, pear, or even a bit of honey or maple syrup for sweetness. The texture might be slightly different.
Yes, frozen avocado chunks are available and work well in smoothies. They also help make the smoothie colder and thicker.
Yes! The bananas and avocados lend a creaminess to the whole smoothie while boosting the fiber and adding some natural sweetness for a quick energy boost. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, reducing cardiovascular disease risk. They’re also rich in potassium, essential for balancing blood pressure.
They sure do. Bananas and avocados blend into a creamy, subtly sweet mix, ideal for smoothies. The banana’s sweetness masks the avocado’s mild flavor, creating a delicious and nutritious combination.

Liked the smooth texture in this one!
I enjoyed this green smoothie however It was very bland…I added a little agave to sweeten it up!
This smoothie is deceiving. It’s hard to imagine with the ingredients used that it will taste good, and yet…
It’s got a bit of sweetness, a bit of tartness and a whole lot of yumminess! It’s kind of thick, and nice and creamy so you may want to use a straw to get every last drop!
Great Smoothie! Love it!
I really liked this one, I love the taste and the healthiness of it. Yum!
Even my husband liked this smoothie, and he is NOT a smoothie person! I am rating this one 2 days late, but it was fantastic. I can’t wait to continue making smoothies even past the 10 day challenge. This will be my new morning routine 100%. Thank you so much!
I couldn’t find my frozen mango (somewhere in the freezer chest, I know) so I used some frozen pineapple. It was smooth and yummy.
This sounds amazing! Good way to use up fruit! I try to freeze when my fruit is not eaten up fast enough. Or if it has small spots on a banana my kids or hubby won’t touch it :/
This is def on my list to start especially when I’m off my plan i can use this for healthy fats and keep weight off. I’m excited! Can’t wait! I’m giving 5 stars cause i love all the ingredients listed!
Oh I know what you mean about the bananas and spots. My family won’t eat it even if there is ONE brown spot :/ I freeze my fruit too when it is about to go south!
Delicious. Little thicker than I like so I added more coconut water which I had substituted for water.
Great when I’m craving an extra rich smoothie. Bought an extra large bag of frozen avocado just for this.
Surprisingly delicious! I’m not a big spinach fan but I must say it gives a nutty flavor to the smoothie and the avocado gives a nice creaminess. It was perfectly satisfying and I was not hungry for a couple of hours.

Enjoyed this with a few modification…. Can’t do bananas and my avocado (although it looked ripe) was hard as a rock and when I cut into it was bad… soo sad! So hemp seed hearts for avocado. Mangos made it plenty sweet and smooth too. Oh and unsweet coconut milk in place of water. very similar to a smoothie I regularly make… looking forward to trying it again with a decent avocado…
Delish! I doubled the recipe, added unflavored Sunwarrior protein powder, Vital Proteins collagen, ice and a little bit of maple syrup.
THIS IS THE CREAMIEST SMOOTHEEST SMOOTHIE I’VE EVER TASTED AND MY FIRST AVOCADO SMOOTHIE …DELISH !
It was good, not my favorite-I have issues with fats-even avocados, though I love them, I took it in 1/2. added more greens, love greens, and hemp seeds for the protein.
This recipe is a very simple one to get started. I’ve made similar in the past, but need to remember to add the
spinach for more nutrition. Definitely an easy go to when in a hurry.
