Turn a Fruit Smoothie into a Green Smoothie
Transforming fruit smoothies into green smoothies is super easy and the added health benefits don’t hurt.
Adding leafy green vegetables to a fruit smoothie provides extra nutrients to break down the natural sugar in fruit, which then allows your body to burn that energy slower + longer. That means you aren’t hungry an hour after downing this blueberry spinach smoothie!
You can take any healthy smoothie recipes you love and add 1 cup (or a handful) of spinach to them if they don’t already have leafy greens, and you won’t even taste the difference. Yet you can be proud of yourself for adding a whole cup of spinach to your body!
New to leafy greens? Start with 1/4 cup in this blueberry spinach smoothie, then work your way up to a full cup. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your tastebuds adapt to that leafy green goodness. For smooth, creamy results every time, see my guide on how to make a smoothie.

Ingredient Swaps
Smoothies are super versatile, especially ones with berries.
- Swap in pretty much any berry for the blueberries here or any low sugar fruits of your choice. I love Costco’s frozen mixed berries, and you can also make frozen meal prep smoothie packs for quick, grab-and-blend convenience.
- Any non-dairy milk works in place of the almond milk base. You might get a different taste + texture depending on what you use, yet you might find a new fav combo too!
- Looking for a non-banana substitute? Mango works great, has a little less sugar than banana, and you can find more ideas in my no-banana smoothies.

Finding the Best Almond Milk
There are so many almond milk products on the market right now! How do I know which one is best? My rawkstar team actually tested as many brands as we could find, to bring you our top almond milk brands.
Yet, did you know you can make almond milk at home, too? I’ve got a no-fail recipe, along with a few tips to help you make delicious homemade almond milk. Choosing your fav option only adds to the value of this blueberry smoothie.

Organic vs Non-Organic Smoothie Ingredients
While I try to buy organic ingredients for my smoothies, it’s not always possible or in the budget. So I use EWG’s dirty dozen list to know which produce should be organic if possible.
This guide provides the most up-to-date info on a variety of produce, so I know what I’m putting into my body, as well as feeding to my kids. Some ingredients for this blueberry spinach smoothie are on the dirty dozen list, so I make sure to buy the organic versions.

Helpful Tools
Notes
- You can swap blueberries for any berry you can find. I like to use pre-packaged frozen mixed berries to give it a strong robust flavor.
- Make sure to use at least 1 frozen fruit for a refreshingly cool smoothie.
- Swap almond milk with the plant milk of your choice, or swap with water.
- To lower the natural sugar in this recipe replace 1 banana with 1/4 avocado or 1/4 cup frozen cauliflower. Freeze bananas for later and learn how to cut avocado.
- The right smoothie blenders help make even the leafiest greens blend smoothly every time.

This was delicious! I used 1 cup of spinach because I drink a lot of green smoothies. I really liked the simplicity of this smoothie with the primary blueberry flavor. I ended up a adding a bit more blueberries to increase the flavor.
Always a favorite berry/ banana combination but the spinach addition kicks it up exponentially I always add flax seed oil and collagen to all my smoothies so this addition only enhanced your recipe
I normally do not like smoothies with greens in it. I can’t get them blended all together even with a Vitamix but this one I could not taste the greens. I really like this smoothie. I definitely will make it again. I already had a frozen bag with blueberries, strawberries and raspberries so I used that instead of just blueberries. This was excellent.
I really love the blueberry Smoothie it’s pack with a lot of antioxidants.
Delicious combo of berries and greens. Will definitely make this one again! Loving this challenge – thank you
It was delicious! It’s very similar to my staple smoothie. I’m enjoying this challenge. Thank you.
This will become one of my favorites! Tasted. So so good!
Loved the ingredient choices. Very complementary. I added the protein powder and some mint. Delicious!
Loved the combinations in this smoothie. I again added protein powder & avacado for a little boost!
Wow! This smoothie is a hit! I am going to have to start doubling the smoothie prep because my 3 kids are loving these smoothies too! Honestly, I thought this smoothie was going to be super sweet but it wasn’t at all! It was just right. Another hit!
I would use less banana next time, as the flavor overpowered the blueberry for me.
That color, though! This smoothie was such a vibrant purple I couldn’t wait to drink it, and the flavor didn’t disappoint. I’m a big fan of everything blueberry, so I probably added a handful more than the recipe called for (while also scaling back the banana). It was just the right amount of sweet and tart.
Day 3 – smoothie very refreshing. Little too sweet for me. I will use avocado next time.
My favorite so far this week! Sweet, but not too sweet (for me anyways). What I mainly taste is blueberries & banana. I used coconut water instead of plain water because I needed the electrolytes. I also added a scoop of SGS homemade protein powder powder.
Tasty! Sometimes blueberries aren’t my favorite fruit in a smoothie, but this is one is light and tasty!
Tastes good, but blueberries left gravel of hard seeds. Blended in high speed vitamix.
WOW!!!!! this was awesome, one of my new favorites!!!!
Great nutrition and flavor. Used fairlife instead of almond milk. Added extra blueberries.
Each day I have tried these smoothie recipes and I think, oooo this is my favorite smoothie ever…then the next day that is my favorite. It just keeps getting better each day! I used strawberries and bananas that I had frozen a week ago. It really made it so yum. I also had exactly 1/2 cup of blueberries left in my fridge, so I will title this my miracle shake!
Hi Lisa B–I’m Lisa B also! Enjoy all these delicious smoothies!
This smoothie is packed with flavour AND phytonutrients!! When I made a whole blender full this morning – I drank one mason jar full. Then I drank another It was that good; I couldn’t help myself! If you’ve been looking for a 5 star recipe – THIS is the one!
