Turn a Fruit Smoothie into a Green Smoothie
Transforming a fruit smoothie into a green smoothie is super easy and the added health benefits don’t hurt.
Adding leafy greens to a fruit smoothie provides extra nutrients to break down the natural sugar in fruit, which then allows your body to burn that energy slower + longer. That means you aren’t hungry an hour after downing this blueberry spinach smoothie!
You can take any healthy smoothie recipes you love and add 1 cup (or a handful) to them if they don’t already have leafy greens, and you won’t even taste the difference. Yet you can be proud of yourself for adding a whole cup of spinach to your body!
New to leafy greens? Start with 1/4 cup in this blueberry spinach smoothie, then work your way up to a full cup. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your tastebuds adapt to that leafy green goodness.
Ingredient Swaps
I always say smoothies are versatile, however, this especially applies to any smoothie with berries. There are so many types of berries available, and pretty much any of them can be swapped in for the blueberries in this recipe. I love the Costco bags of frozen mixed berries, and often use that in this smoothie.
Any dairy-free milk works in place of the almond milk base. You might get a different taste + texture depending on what you use, yet you might find a new fav combo too! Looking for a non-banana substitute? Mango works great, and has a little less sugar than banana.
Finding the Best Almond Milk
There are so many almond milk brands on the market right now! How do I know which one is best? My rawkstar team actually tested as many brands as we could find, to bring you our top almond milk picks.
Yet did you know making your own almond milk is super easy too? I’ve got a no-fail recipe, along with a few tips to help you make delicious homemade almond milk as well. Choosing your fav option only adds to the value of this blueberry smoothie.
Organic vs Non-Organic Smoothie Ingredients
While I try to buy organic ingredients for my smoothies, it’s not always possible or in the budget. So I use EWG’s Dirty Dozen guide to know which produce should be organic if possible.
This guide provides the most up-to-date info on a variety of produce, so I know what I’m putting into my body, as well as feeding to my kids. Some ingredients for this blueberry spinach smoothie are on the Dirty Dozen list, so I make sure to buy the organic versions.

Love this one, really good. Made with coconut water. Yum!
This is a creamy and sweet smoothie. I shared it with a family and the liked it , too. (I added chia seeds for protein and healthy omega 3.
In spite of only having a few simple ingredients, this one has some deep flavor!
Nice but I prefer the first one! ๐
Good one
My husband made tomorrowโs smoothie because our mint was deteriorating. I can tell you, you are in for a treat tomorrow!!! It is my favorite smoothie so far!!! It is also tasty with vanilla protein powder added.
Fantastic! Great on the slushier side! Used Body Armor instead of water or almond milk! Will make again!
My everyday go to smoothie recipe. I also add a little tart cherry juice for added flavour!
I made this smoothie twice now! Itโs super yum! My three year old loves to drink it and to blow bubbles with her straw in the smoothie! Itโs a perfect blend! The sweetness is just right! It is delightful smoothie, one I will make regularly:)
While I like strawberries – I love blueberries. All blueberry one for me is delicious!
Love, love, love this smoothie! Creamy with just the right sweetness!!!
SO Delicious, I’m sharing it right now with my 5 year old granddaughter. She also enjoyed the popsicle from day 5 (that I pre-made last night, knowing she’d be with me today, for a bike ride). Her mom is working very hard to avoid artificial coloring in her food, so I’m happy to share these recipes with my daughter-in-law. thanks!
One of our favorites! I canโt do strawberries but raspberries substitute in great. This is a quick and easy way to get some good nutrition in the kids (and me!)
Blueberry is my least favourite fruit smoothie, however I found the taste was enjoyable and the smoothie very filling as a meal replacement
I think overall it has a great taste and is smooth! An easy smoothie to drink, but next time I think I might put a little bit more spinach in it because of how fruity it tasted to me.
The banana flavor combined with blueberries and strawberries was another winner! I added chia seeds for an extra power boost.
