Turn a Fruit Smoothie into a Green Smoothie
Transforming fruit smoothies into green smoothies is super easy and the added health benefits don’t hurt.
Adding leafy green vegetables to a fruit smoothie provides extra nutrients to break down the natural sugar in fruit, which then allows your body to burn that energy slower + longer. That means you aren’t hungry an hour after downing this blueberry spinach smoothie!
You can take any healthy smoothie recipes you love and add 1 cup (or a handful) of spinach to them if they don’t already have leafy greens, and you won’t even taste the difference. Yet you can be proud of yourself for adding a whole cup of spinach to your body!
New to leafy greens? Start with 1/4 cup in this blueberry spinach smoothie, then work your way up to a full cup. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your tastebuds adapt to that leafy green goodness. For smooth, creamy results every time, see my guide on how to make a smoothie.

Ingredient Swaps
Smoothies are super versatile, especially ones with berries.
- Swap in pretty much any berry for the blueberries here or any low sugar fruits of your choice. I love Costco’s frozen mixed berries, and you can also make frozen meal prep smoothie packs for quick, grab-and-blend convenience.
- Any non-dairy milk works in place of the almond milk base. You might get a different taste + texture depending on what you use, yet you might find a new fav combo too!
- Looking for a non-banana substitute? Mango works great, has a little less sugar than banana, and you can find more ideas in my no-banana smoothies.

Finding the Best Almond Milk
There are so many almond milk products on the market right now! How do I know which one is best? My rawkstar team actually tested as many brands as we could find, to bring you our top almond milk brands.
Yet, did you know you can make almond milk at home, too? I’ve got a no-fail recipe, along with a few tips to help you make delicious homemade almond milk. Choosing your fav option only adds to the value of this blueberry smoothie.

Organic vs Non-Organic Smoothie Ingredients
While I try to buy organic ingredients for my smoothies, it’s not always possible or in the budget. So I use EWG’s dirty dozen list to know which produce should be organic if possible.
This guide provides the most up-to-date info on a variety of produce, so I know what I’m putting into my body, as well as feeding to my kids. Some ingredients for this blueberry spinach smoothie are on the dirty dozen list, so I make sure to buy the organic versions.

Helpful Tools
Notes
- You can swap blueberries for any berry you can find. I like to use pre-packaged frozen mixed berries to give it a strong robust flavor.
- Make sure to use at least 1 frozen fruit for a refreshingly cool smoothie.
- Swap almond milk with the plant milk of your choice, or swap with water.
- To lower the natural sugar in this recipe replace 1 banana with 1/4 avocado or 1/4 cup frozen cauliflower. Freeze bananas for later and learn how to cut avocado.
- The right smoothie blenders help make even the leafiest greens blend smoothly every time.

This was amazing! Not quite feeling summer (or really even spring) here in the Pacific Northwest but the berries in this one sure helped! Added some Protein Boost Smoothie powder, a scoop of chia seeds and a squeeze of half a lemon for some added sunshine ☀️. Absolute JOY and a great purple color too! Love this one and will be adding to the rotation.
I made this with almond milk and mango (less sugar than banana). And I upped the spinach to a cup. It was nice and thick with all the frozen fruit. Next time I will use water rather than almond milk and will add protein boost.
It was a good classic smoothie. It’s an easy one to make and tasty!
I used water as my recipe called for. The smoothie was thin and tasted good. I tasted mostly just the berries, not the spinach nor the banana. A good way for me to get my leafy greens.
I liked this easy to make, berrylicious smoothie!
Delicious! I used oat milk & only had green bananas so I used 1/3 avocado instead.
This smoothie has been my favorite by far. The ingredients were so good and made the flavor amazing. 5/5 the best so far
Love blueberries! I skipped the strawberries and just added more blueberries. This is one of my favorites!
Okay the blueberry spinach is winning as my favorite smoothie now – love! I’ve been making smoothies for my boyfriend as well, this one was a big hit!
I really looked forward to this smoothie and it didn’t disappoint at all. But I found my strawberries had freezer burn and so I want get some fresher fruit and make it again to get the full flavor of it.
Yum! So good! I used water as the liquid and added chia, hemp and ground flax. Had a bit of a nutty flavour from my additions. I think almond butter could be a nice addition too.
Love the Blueberry smoothie! Super nutritious and tastes like a dessert – an all around win! This one is definitely a go-to, especially on busy days when I want a quick and easy meal (with protein powder added) or a satisfying snack that’s nutritious.
Berry delicious and nutrias
I always love berries and spinach in my smoothies so I definitely love the taste of this smoothie.
Tasty and great consistency!!
I substituted with coconut milk instead. Yummy!
Such a perfect blend of tart and sweet, yet another smoothie with zero spinach taste too!
Mixed some collagen in it for added protein and its super tasty!! Loved the blueberry flavour
I enjoyed this smoothie. I make something like it with avocado instead of banana often.
I didn’t measure and added too much frozen fruit so I let it melt some and it was delicious.
This is very similar to the basic smoothie that we frequently make. It tastes great and hides all of the spinach from the kiddos. 🙂
