Turn a Fruit Smoothie into a Green Smoothie
Transforming fruit smoothies into green smoothies is super easy and the added health benefits don’t hurt.
Adding leafy green vegetables to a fruit smoothie provides extra nutrients to break down the natural sugar in fruit, which then allows your body to burn that energy slower + longer. That means you aren’t hungry an hour after downing this blueberry spinach smoothie!
You can take any healthy smoothie recipes you love and add 1 cup (or a handful) of spinach to them if they don’t already have leafy greens, and you won’t even taste the difference. Yet you can be proud of yourself for adding a whole cup of spinach to your body!
New to leafy greens? Start with 1/4 cup in this blueberry spinach smoothie, then work your way up to a full cup. You’ll be surprised at how quickly your tastebuds adapt to that leafy green goodness. For smooth, creamy results every time, see my guide on how to make a smoothie.

Ingredient Swaps
Smoothies are super versatile, especially ones with berries.
- Swap in pretty much any berry for the blueberries here or any low sugar fruits of your choice. I love Costco’s frozen mixed berries, and you can also make frozen meal prep smoothie packs for quick, grab-and-blend convenience.
- Any non-dairy milk works in place of the almond milk base. You might get a different taste + texture depending on what you use, yet you might find a new fav combo too!
- Looking for a non-banana substitute? Mango works great, has a little less sugar than banana, and you can find more ideas in my no-banana smoothies.

Finding the Best Almond Milk
There are so many almond milk products on the market right now! How do I know which one is best? My rawkstar team actually tested as many brands as we could find, to bring you our top almond milk brands.
Yet, did you know you can make almond milk at home, too? I’ve got a no-fail recipe, along with a few tips to help you make delicious homemade almond milk. Choosing your fav option only adds to the value of this blueberry smoothie.

Organic vs Non-Organic Smoothie Ingredients
While I try to buy organic ingredients for my smoothies, it’s not always possible or in the budget. So I use EWG’s dirty dozen list to know which produce should be organic if possible.
This guide provides the most up-to-date info on a variety of produce, so I know what I’m putting into my body, as well as feeding to my kids. Some ingredients for this blueberry spinach smoothie are on the dirty dozen list, so I make sure to buy the organic versions.

Helpful Tools
Notes
- You can swap blueberries for any berry you can find. I like to use pre-packaged frozen mixed berries to give it a strong robust flavor.
- Make sure to use at least 1 frozen fruit for a refreshingly cool smoothie.
- Swap almond milk with the plant milk of your choice, or swap with water.
- To lower the natural sugar in this recipe replace 1 banana with 1/4 avocado or 1/4 cup frozen cauliflower. Freeze bananas for later and learn how to cut avocado.
- The right smoothie blenders help make even the leafiest greens blend smoothly every time.

Fruity and filling! I used nonfat milk and frozen spinach. I’d make this again.
Very healthy, smooth and sweet flavor. My husband and his parents really enjoy it in the evening. I love the taste!!
Really great taste. I used mixed berries (Straw/Black/Blue) & added 1 tsp Chia Seeds.
Not a fan, but to be fair I really dislike bananas so this just had too much banana flavor for me. I will try it again with 1/2 a banana and more berries. That might be more my speed!
Love this smoothie! Very tasty!
This one was a little bland for me – I prefer a little more variety in my fruit! Not gross, though, by any means!
This is my hubby’s fave so far even with the spinach . The traditional berry and banana flavour that is so good!
This one was right on. Everyone loved it. Easy to make. Will make again and again.
Great recipe. I did take out the banana as they are not my favorite and can over power everything else in flavor.
This smoothie was absolutely delicious. I made it as a midday snack and my husband was ecstatic at how tasty it was. I didn’t add protein and I used oat milk. I will definitely be making it again.
Delicious! My favorite one yet!
Pretty good flavor…a bit watered down for me as I prepped all fruit frozen and had to add a bit more water than the recipe stated.
I am loving starting my day with a smoothie. You can’t go wrong with blueberries. Gentle flavor combo.
It makes a good pre- workout drink with banana
This was a very fruity smoothie!
Very tasty, delicious!
I enjoyed this smoothie. I feel like the banana maybe should’ve been only half because it seemed to cover the other flavors. But it was still delicious!
Good smoothie. A little too much banana taste for me, so I’ll modify it some next time. It’s great to have a starting point, so I really appreciate the recipe.
Another great smoothie. I like how all the flavors go so good together and added some yogurt for protein.
This one is really easy to make and tastes so good. I love how creamy it is with a lot of fruit flavor. This is definitely something I am going to make again.
I agree Stefanie, it was creamy and the fruits added just the right flavor to enjoy it over and over again.
Loved this smoothie. Made it using half spinach and half kale, almond milk, added frozen blueberries, strawberries and half ripe banana. Tasted great and it was enough to get me through the morning!
This blueberry smoothie was very tasty! You can taste the blueberries! I haven’t made one where can actually taste them!
So far, all 3 smoothies have had the perfect balance of sweet and tart.
