Ingredients You’ll Need

This lemon smoothie keeps things simple and clean with just a handful of powerful ingredients. Each one plays a role in making the final blend refreshing, naturally sweet, and full of feel-good benefits. Here’s what to grab before you blend:

  • Lemon (peeled): Choose bright yellow, firm lemons with smooth skin for the juiciest flavor. Organic is best—especially if you plan to use the zest—since citrus fruits can be heavily sprayed with pesticides, and those residues tend to linger on the skin. Don’t throw away the peels! Make candied lemon peel.
  • Water: Use filtered or spring water for the cleanest taste in your smoothie.
  • Raw honey: Look for local or organic raw honey for the best flavor and nutrition; it adds a rich, floral sweetness.
  • Raw cashews: Adding cashews (or any nut/seed) to a smoothie increases the protein, healthy fats and fiber to keep you full longer. Raw cashews are mild tasting, which is why I use them most often.
  • Cauliflower, frozen: I’ve been on team cauliflower in my smoothies for years now. Why? It’s a sneaky way to boost the fiber and make the smoothie even creamier. Try it— you’ll thank me later.
  • Frozen peach: Opt for unsweetened frozen peaches for a naturally sweet and creamy texture. I love buying these in bulk whenever I find them at the store.
  • Fresh ginger root: Pick firm, smooth ginger with a strong aroma. Peel the skin from the ginger with a sharp paring knife before grating the flesh. Store in the fridge for freshness.
  • Ground turmeric: Choose the most high-quality, vibrant yellow turmeric for the best earthy and slightly peppery flavor. If you don’t have access to fresh turmeric for your lemon smoothie, then you can swap in dried powdered turmeric. If using fresh, then use about a ½ tablespoon-sized knob. Peel the turmeric first, then grate before adding to the blender.

How to Make a Lemon Smoothie

This lemon smoothie is quite simple to make, especially if you have a high-powered blender (like a Vitamix or one of these smoothie blenders). If you’re on a mission to get healthy and naturally energized, follow along to make this smoothie in minutes.

  1. Combine the frozen peaches, lemon, cauliflower, cashews, honey, ginger and turmeric in a high-power blender. If using a standard blender, you can soak the cashews to soften before blending.
  2. Blend until creamy and smooth. If you need a thinner smoothie you can add more water until you achieve the texture you want.

How to remove the rind from a lemon

  • Wash and dry the lemon before removing the peel. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the rind (like you would an apple). Leave as much of the white pith on the lemon as possible. This has the most vitamin C of the entire lemon! Discard the rind and cut the lemon into quarters. This fleshy part of the lemon contains the fiber, and adding this to your smoothie will keep you feel full longer.

Recipe Swaps and Add-Ins

One of the best things about smoothies is how flexible they are. Whether you want to boost nutrition, adjust the flavor, or swap in ingredients you already have on hand, there are plenty of ways to make this lemon smoothie recipe your own. Here are some easy tweaks to try:

  • Add more frozen fruit: Sweeten this smoothie with more frozen fruit or try a banana! Freeze bananas ahead of time so you always have them on hand.
  • Add protein: If you’re looking to turn this smoothie into a meal, then I recommend boosting it with a plant-based protein powder. My homemade protein powder recipe offers 10 grams of plant-based protein, along with 4 grams of healthy fat and 7 grams of fiber.
  • Swap lemons: If you find lemons a bit too tart for a smoothie, then try buying Meyer lemons. I can seriously eat these lemons by themselves, they are so sweet and juicy.
  • Swap honey: This smoothie can be made vegan by using maple syrup in place of honey and is just as sweet and tasty.

Common Questions

What are the benefits of lemon smoothies?

Lemon smoothies are packed with vitamin C, which helps boost immunity, support digestion, and promote glowing skin. They also contain antioxidants that fight inflammation, fiber for gut health, and natural enzymes that aid in detoxification. Plus, their refreshing citrus flavor makes them a delicious way to stay hydrated and energized!

What fruit mixes well with lemon?

Fruits that mix well with lemon include strawberries, blueberries, peaches, raspberries, mangoes, and pineapples. Lemon’s bright, tangy flavor pairs beautifully with sweet or juicy fruits, enhancing both taste and freshness in smoothies, salads, and desserts.

Do lemon smoothies help your skin?

Absolutely! Lemon smoothies are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which help boost collagen production, fight free radicals, and brighten your skin. The hydration from the smoothie also keeps your skin plump and radiant, while ingredients like ginger and turmeric can reduce inflammation and support a healthy complexion.

Are lemon smoothies good for you?

Lemon smoothies can be a great addition to a healthy lifestyle. Packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, they support immune health, digestion, and hydration. When blended with other whole ingredients like fruit, ginger, or turmeric, lemon smoothies offer a refreshing and nourishing way to boost your daily wellness routine.

Can I put a whole lemon in a smoothie?

You can put a whole lemon in a smoothie, but it’s best to remove the rind to avoid bitterness. Using the peeled lemon—including the flesh and pith—adds bright flavor, fiber, and vitamin C. Blending the whole fruit (minus seeds and peel) gives your smoothie a fresh, tangy boost with added nutrients.

This was the least favorite of the smoothies so far in the 10 day challenge. The frozen peaches made the honey harden, then the honey got stuck to the side of the blender container and was difficult to mix in. It was pretty liquid-y, sour, and spicy. (Oops…I drank it during a Zoom meeting, and everyone saw my sour / yucky face. :D) The ingredients are very nutritious, though.

    WOO HOO!

Today’s drink, the ‘Perfect Lemon Smoothie’ will definitely wake up those sour receptors on you tongue, in a delightful way!

It is a refreshing Smoothie that I will especially look forward to drinking on some of the hot summer days here in Oklahoma!

This lemon smoothie is actually one of my favorites. So refreshing! If it’s too tart for you, just add a little more honey or fruit to sweeten it up.

  4. 5 stars
This is a very refreshing smoothie. I love the tartness and bite from the ginger. It is great drink for cold and flu season.

WOWZA!!!! I love the brightness of this one. This will cure whatever ails you haha. Love the color, the flavor and it’s one you drink slowly. This will be a regular one on my list.

This was so bright and tart but I love tart things! Even my 13 month old liked it! I didn’t taste any peach but still liked it. I feel like it belongs on a Summer Smoothie Challenge!

  7. 5 stars
Wow! I’ve never had a smoothie as vibrant and full flavored as this one. I love all of the ingredients separately so was excited to try this one. I may have overdid it with the ginger do it did overpower the other ingredients a bit. Overall a winner for me.

This smoothie was delicious! The tangy lemon was balanced well with the peaches. A bright and sunny part of my day!

Ours came out very lemony. I loved it though. We added some spinach and mango in the end. I loved all the healthy ingredients in this one!

Really like this one! Tart and refreshing. Will probably like it even better in the summer.

Wow what a bright refreshing smoothie. Too bad it was 26 degrees outside. I see this as a hot summer morning favorite.

It’s an okay smoothie, but not one of my favorites. I like ginger, lemon, peaches, and turmeric, but the predominant taste was the ginger/turmeric flavor. I think I was expecting more of a lemon flavor, based on the name of the smoothie. For health benefits, I would drink it again.

  13. This smoothie was not as tart as we thought it would be and we actually enjoyed it.
We added a protein powder to it and made it our lunch meal replacement.

This was the smoothie with the question mark- didn’t know what it would taste like. I really did like the blend of the drink and it had the right amount of thickness. It was a little tart but I still liked it and drank all of it! I’m in for another try! Next time I will use smaller lemons and do something with the peaches and honey.

  14. 5 stars
I added a scoop of protein powder and a little more ginger. It was really tasty! It really added a energy boost to my morning and I love all the good for you ingredients!

Like the previous three better. I may try this one again in the summer. I prefer my lemon warm in the winter (lemon/honey and hot H2O).

  16. 4 stars
Was a bit tart but not as much as I expected. I added chia and ground flaxseed and used canned peaches as we don’t have frozen peaches where I live.
    will definitely do this again

I didn’t have fresh or frozen peaches and had to use the little plastic containers – yuck! I did drain the light syrup rinsed the peaches and let drain, that didn’t help all that much! I also didn’t use the honey thinking the peaches would be plenty sweet along with the protein powder. I made a double batch and my husband seem to really like it. I will try again with fresh or frozen peaches next week.

Unfortunately this one was not our favorite, it was way too tart for our family. May have to try tweaking it to see if we can make it suit our tastes to add it into our rotation.
Also, we do our weekly smoothie prep on Sundays and the ingredients become frozen (we keep them stored in the freezer), which in turn makes us have to add much more liquid than the recipe calls for and my poor Vitamix sounds like it’s going to break 🙁
