Ingredients You’ll Need

This lemon smoothie keeps things simple and clean with just a handful of powerful ingredients. Each one plays a role in making the final blend refreshing, naturally sweet, and full of feel-good benefits. Here’s what to grab before you blend:

  • Lemon (peeled): Choose bright yellow, firm lemons with smooth skin for the juiciest flavor. Organic is best—especially if you plan to use the zest—since citrus fruits can be heavily sprayed with pesticides, and those residues tend to linger on the skin. Don’t throw away the peels! Make candied lemon peel.
  • Water: Use filtered or spring water for the cleanest taste in your smoothie.
  • Raw honey: Look for local or organic raw honey for the best flavor and nutrition; it adds a rich, floral sweetness.
  • Raw cashews: Adding cashews (or any nut/seed) to a smoothie increases the protein, healthy fats and fiber to keep you full longer. Raw cashews are mild tasting, which is why I use them most often.
  • Cauliflower, frozen: I’ve been on team cauliflower in my smoothies for years now. Why? It’s a sneaky way to boost the fiber and make the smoothie even creamier. Try it— you’ll thank me later.
  • Frozen peach: Opt for unsweetened frozen peaches for a naturally sweet and creamy texture. I love buying these in bulk whenever I find them at the store.
  • Fresh ginger root: Pick firm, smooth ginger with a strong aroma. Peel the skin from the ginger with a sharp paring knife before grating the flesh. Store in the fridge for freshness.
  • Ground turmeric: Choose the most high-quality, vibrant yellow turmeric for the best earthy and slightly peppery flavor. If you don’t have access to fresh turmeric for your lemon smoothie, then you can swap in dried powdered turmeric. If using fresh, then use about a ½ tablespoon-sized knob. Peel the turmeric first, then grate before adding to the blender.

How to Make a Lemon Smoothie

This lemon smoothie is quite simple to make, especially if you have a high-powered blender (like a Vitamix or one of these smoothie blenders). If you’re on a mission to get healthy and naturally energized, follow along to make this smoothie in minutes.

  1. Combine the frozen peaches, lemon, cauliflower, cashews, honey, ginger and turmeric in a high-power blender. If using a standard blender, you can soak the cashews to soften before blending.
  2. Blend until creamy and smooth. If you need a thinner smoothie you can add more water until you achieve the texture you want.

How to remove the rind from a lemon

  • Wash and dry the lemon before removing the peel. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the rind (like you would an apple). Leave as much of the white pith on the lemon as possible. This has the most vitamin C of the entire lemon! Discard the rind and cut the lemon into quarters. This fleshy part of the lemon contains the fiber, and adding this to your smoothie will keep you feel full longer.

Recipe Swaps and Add-Ins

One of the best things about smoothies is how flexible they are. Whether you want to boost nutrition, adjust the flavor, or swap in ingredients you already have on hand, there are plenty of ways to make this lemon smoothie recipe your own. Here are some easy tweaks to try:

  • Add more frozen fruit: Sweeten this smoothie with more frozen fruit or try a banana! Freeze bananas ahead of time so you always have them on hand.
  • Add protein: If you’re looking to turn this smoothie into a meal, then I recommend boosting it with a plant-based protein powder. My homemade protein powder recipe offers 10 grams of plant-based protein, along with 4 grams of healthy fat and 7 grams of fiber.
  • Swap lemons: If you find lemons a bit too tart for a smoothie, then try buying Meyer lemons. I can seriously eat these lemons by themselves, they are so sweet and juicy.
  • Swap honey: This smoothie can be made vegan by using maple syrup in place of honey and is just as sweet and tasty.

Common Questions

What are the benefits of lemon smoothies?

Lemon smoothies are packed with vitamin C, which helps boost immunity, support digestion, and promote glowing skin. They also contain antioxidants that fight inflammation, fiber for gut health, and natural enzymes that aid in detoxification. Plus, their refreshing citrus flavor makes them a delicious way to stay hydrated and energized!

What fruit mixes well with lemon?

Fruits that mix well with lemon include strawberries, blueberries, peaches, raspberries, mangoes, and pineapples. Lemon’s bright, tangy flavor pairs beautifully with sweet or juicy fruits, enhancing both taste and freshness in smoothies, salads, and desserts.

Do lemon smoothies help your skin?

Absolutely! Lemon smoothies are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which help boost collagen production, fight free radicals, and brighten your skin. The hydration from the smoothie also keeps your skin plump and radiant, while ingredients like ginger and turmeric can reduce inflammation and support a healthy complexion.

Are lemon smoothies good for you?

Lemon smoothies can be a great addition to a healthy lifestyle. Packed with vitamin C and antioxidants, they support immune health, digestion, and hydration. When blended with other whole ingredients like fruit, ginger, or turmeric, lemon smoothies offer a refreshing and nourishing way to boost your daily wellness routine.

Can I put a whole lemon in a smoothie?

You can put a whole lemon in a smoothie, but it’s best to remove the rind to avoid bitterness. Using the peeled lemon—including the flesh and pith—adds bright flavor, fiber, and vitamin C. Blending the whole fruit (minus seeds and peel) gives your smoothie a fresh, tangy boost with added nutrients.

This Smoothie Was A Mouth Full Of Wow! It Was Tart And Refreshing. I Believe This Would Make A Great Start Of The Day Smoothie. I Loved The Color, Full Of Sunshine . I Will Make Again And Add A Bit More Peaches.

Not my favourite. However, the health benefits are great. I added a dash of black pepper.

This smoothie was tart, zingy and refreshing! This smoothie was very different from my usual smoothie but I would make it again.

Wowsers, this was a surprising treat! I love lemon and ginger anyway and regularly make lemon ginger tea, but this fresh recipe stepped those flavors up for sure! I can see myself having this warm at night a few hours before bed.

Yassss! I loved the ginger zest & lemon twist because it added a fun kick to my smoothie. I added orange juice to elevate my smoothie and opted out of the honey sweetener. Highly recommend to try this smoothie!

Wow! I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading all the reviews, but I absolutely loved it! It reminded me of a lemon icy except without all the sugar and other unhealthy ingredients. It also reminded me of the hot drink I often have when I’m feeling under the weather. This was a very refreshing and nice treat to have after dinner. I will definitely be making this again.

I boosted with protein and this was so tangy and refreshing I forgot to drink coffee this morning!

I was really looking forward to trying this smoothie, but it didn’t quite turn out as expected. Some of it was error on my part. I added all of the liquid to the blender first, instead of just using at the end to get the right consistency. I also decided to toss in a piece of the lemon peel for some extra vitamin C. My Vitamix, that usually blends up everything, did not get it all. It wasn’t very pleasant to run into pieces of partially blended lemon rind while sipping on my smoothie:(. I will still try this one again, maybe with some banana & cauliflower, instead of the peaches, to balance out the tartness of the lemon.

A bit too zesty for my liking, but I can see there are health benefits from each of the ingredients.

This one did not work for me. I substituted coconut yogurt for the honey to calm some of the strong flavors down. But ended up adding a banana and some spinach too. I’m not a fan of ginger (other than my dog, Ginger) and couldn’t quite balance the taste.

A little too tart. I like the peaches and the lemons. Needed a little more honey. Or maybe maple syrup.

The lemon smoothie is my favorite so far. I ran out of lemons so I used a lime. I also used a small piece of fresh turmeric. Delicious.

  12. 3 stars
I am not a fan of turmeric and while the lemon and ginger was refreshing, I did not care for the overall smoothie. I do love trying all of these new flavors.

    1. Nice and tangy. As my sister pointed out to me, it’s like cold version the lemon, honey, ginger tea. I love it. I’ll have to try it some time with the protein powder.

Day 4 Smoothie Challenge! Wow! Thats what I said when I first tasted this Perfect Lemon Smoothie this morning! An eye opening experience! You would definitely be awake after the first taste!! I thought it was excellent, and nothing like I’ve ever tried before. I did add the Simple Green Protein Boost and Collagen. Mine was thick and creamy, and very filling!
Yes, I would make it again, it is very tart, but the peaches in combination with the lemon is really good.

So surprised how much I liked this lemon smoothie. I had both the fresh ginger and turmeric and Meyer lemon to make this. I did add some black pepper as I know that enhances the properties of the turmeric. As always I added 1 teaspoon each of psyllium, ground chia and ground flaxseeds. No hemp hearts this time. It was bright, creamy and a great way to brighten up the day.

This one was a big hit! Even my son said it was good. I added arugula, used only 1/3 of the honey (maple syrup) and golden paste instead of powdred turmeric. I probably should have added more syrup but enjoyed it anyway & it was very low calorie too! We’ll definitely do this one again. You couldn’t taste the peaches at all so we discussed substituting strawberries or pineapple next time, which we always have on hand.

Beautiful color of smoothie. It really helped me feel like I had more energy and the cleared up my nasal passage. Very powerful ingredients.
