Health Benefits of a Lemon Peach Smoothie

Lemon: This smoothie calls for a whole lemon without the rind. Lemon flesh provides fiber to help you feel full longer. Lemons also give this smoothie a dose of vitamin C, which is just what your body needs to fend off both cold and flu viruses.

Peaches: Peaches are in the stone fruit family, and stone fruit gets its name from the hard, inner seed. They are an excellent source of vitamin C to support a healthy immune system. Peaches may also prevent certain types of cancer and aid in digestion.

Honey: Honey not only adds natural sweetness to this lemon smoothie, it’s also a natural energy booster. Look for raw honey in the baking aisle of your grocery store. Unlike pasteurized honey, Raw honey does not undergo the heating process, and all of the nutrients are preserved. Raw honey has antioxidant and natural anti-bacterial properties that can help improve digestive system as well as help you stay healthy.

Ginger: Ginger contains the anti-inflammatory compound gingerol. Ginger also helps promote healthy digestion, lower blood pressure, and increased immunity. Peel the skin from the ginger with a sharp paring knife before grating the flesh.

Turmeric: Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. The medicinal effects of turmeric work at the molecular level to tame inflammation that leads to diseases like heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, and Alzheimerโ€™s. Turmeric delivers antioxidants for boosting your immune system. If you don’t have access to fresh turmeric for your lemon smoothie, then you can swap in dried powdered turmeric. If using fresh, then use about a ยฝ tablespoon-sized knob. Peel the turmeric first, then grate before adding to the blender.

How to remove the rind from a lemon

  1. Wash and dry the lemon before removing the peel.
  2. Using a vegetable peeler, peel the rind (like you would an apple). Leaving as much of the white pith on the lemon as possible. This has the most vitamix C of the entire lemon!
  3. Discard the rind and cut the lemon into quarters. This fleshy part of the lemon contains the fiber, and adding this to your smoothie will keep you feeling full longer.

Boosting with protein

If you’re looking to turn this smoothie into a meal, then I recommending boosting it with a plant-based protein powder. My protein powder recipe offers 10 grams of plant based protein, along with 4 grams of healthy fat and 7 grams of fiber.

Boosting smoothies like this lemon smoothie helps keep you full longer, as well as helps the body turn the natural sugar from this smoothie into useable energy.

More Lemon Smoothie Recipes

I love adding lemon to my smoothies so I have some more fun recipes to share with you!

If you blended a smoothie that tastes less than great, then try adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to it. Lemon can help brighten up that smoothie a bit, as well as bring the other flavors together.

If you find lemons a bit too tart for a smoothie, then try buying Meyer lemons. I can seriously eat these lemons by themselves, they are so sweet and juicy.

I wanted to love this, but itโ€™s been my least favorite smoothie recipe so far. Maybe there should be a disclaimer about the lemonโ€”it not only needs to be peeled, but also deseeded. This is where I went wrong and was spitting out bits of bitter, ground up lemon seeds for breakfast ๐Ÿ™

This one was not a daily drinker. It wasnโ€™t bad, it was just different. I added vanilla protein powder.

I LOVE lemons but this one was a little to tart for me. Maybe it would be better as an afternoon smoothie desert instead of breakfast, especially on a hot summer day.

This smoothie is very bright! It is very tart and a nice change of pace. Probably not one I would drink regularly as it is acidic. I’m happy I tried something new, and you should too ๐Ÿ™‚

I am a fan of lemons. This sunshine filled morning delight was perfect and a nod to tartness. I drank it as is then added some homemade protein powder to see how that would taste, unusually delicious.

This was a little too tart for my stomach. I want to try it again with more peaches and see if that makes it more manageable. I love all of the health benefits so I would definitely try it again. It was a nice change from the other smoothies.

I like the tartness of this. And I went a little heavier on ginger root because I love it.

Love it. Would also be great in the summer. Tangy but not overwhelming. I added the zest from the lemon as well.

Yikes – I love the combination of lemon, peaches and ginger. I would use ice cubes rather than water next time. Delicious

I prefer sweet vs. sour, so this wasnโ€™t my favorite. However, I will make it a regular because it adds variety to my nutrition plan. I added citrus fruit to the smoothie from my garden.

I LOVE this smoothie. I did use pineapple instead of peaches, donโ€™t like them. I can see drinking this a lot in the warmer weather!

This has been my LEAST favorite smoothie so far. It was really hard to get down. Between the lemon and turmeric it was extremely bitter (yuck). I couldnโ€™t taste the peaches or honey at all. I will definitely NOT be making this one again!

I did reduce the amount lemon, switched the water with coconut water, and added Simple Green Smoothies protein powder to give it the fulfilling boost I need to start my day!
