I love smoothies of all kinds, even ones that aren’t green! When my sweet tooth hits, I head to the kitchen to whip up this cinnamon date smoothie; it’s a seriously delicious dessert, without the guilt. Made with 100% whole food, plant based ingredients like these incredibly soft dates, how can you not dive right in?! The dates add a caramel tone to this cinnamon smoothie— it’s truly perfection.

Natural Delights Dates

For this smoothie recipe, I’ve partnered with Natural Delights to use their pitted Medjool Dates to create this drool worthy date smoothie recipe. Natural Delights Medjool dates are grown in the Bard Valley, a beautiful, sun-drenched area fed by the Lower Colorado River where Arizona and California meet.

While I love dates in my smoothies, I also love putting them to work in other dishes too. Honestly, I just slice my Natural Delights dates down the middle, then fill them with a tablespoon of peanut butter. Such a good + filling snack… excuse me while I go make some now!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 3 medjool dates - pitted
  • 1 1/2 cups plant milk - ex: cashew, almond, or oat
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 serving Protein Smoothie Boost - optional
  • 1 cup ice - optional

Instructions

  • Blend oats until powdery.
  • Add dates, non dairy milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon to blender, and blend again.
  • Pour into a glass containing 1 cup ice, for an extra cold beverage.

Notes

  • Ice can be added to blender at blending stage, yet blades tend to dull over time when blending ice, so we like to add it to our drinking glass.
  • If you prefer no ice in this smoothie, yet still want it to be cold, then place in freezer for 30 minutes before serving.

    Wow, I just inhaled my breakfast! When I made this smoothie, I subbed in the following ingredients:
    1/4 tsp of cinnamon instead of 2 tsp (next time I will try 1/2 tsp)
    1/2 frozen banana in place of 1/2 c up of ice
    added 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
    handful of pistachios
    1/2 tsp maple syrup

    The rest was per the recipe. It came out great! Next time I’ll try soaking the dates and blending those first because my Vitamix has trouble with them being so sticky and fibrous.

    I used quick oats instead of rolled oats (it’s all I had) and the grain kind of stayed in the back of my throat. I used 1/2 teaspoon less cinnamon than called for and it was a bit much for me. This one is a pass for me though I love your other smoothies. Thank you for posting something new for us to try!

We’ve had other say that they liked it better when they blended the milk and oats together really well first, as it made for a smoother smoothie (say that three times fast!). Might be cool to try it again using that tip, plus a bit less cinnamon. Either way, we love that you love our other smoothies! 🙂

    I had to use soy milk as nuts aren’t safe for us. The end result was very liquidy. I was tempted to add a banana but usually try a recipe as written first. Next time I’ll add a banana for smoothness. I’ll also add flax meal, hemp hearts, and chia seeds for a nutritional boost. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

    This smoothie is absolutely outstanding! It is so tasty and delicious, it would be great anytime of day, especially breakfast! At the moment I am experiencing a lot of pain from a kidney stone and made this smoothie for the first time to try to cheer myself up and boy oh boy…. it did! I think I might make a second one!!!! The oats, cinnamon, dates, vanilla, and oat milk was incredible! (And I don’t even like dates, but this is fantastic!!!!!) Bravo on another delightful smoothie!

    i know this recipe is good, i have made myself many times a smoothie with just 2 dates because they are soo sweet. I also add dried mushroom blend and alternate with ashwagandah and maca. I also add half cup of oatmeal. Or i also add some plain yogurt. the dates give lots of fiber and sweetness to just about any shake you make. I love them just like that also when i dont add them to my shake, to fill a sweet tooth.

    I made this smoothie tonight. I really am impressed with dates. Never really had them. I love the almond butter and grapes smoothie. This one was tasty but the cinnamon was too strong for me and I love cinnamon. The oats were a little chalky but maybe its bc I used old fashioned oats. I dont know what they meant by rolled oats in the recipie. The dates were super sweet. I cut the recipe by one date and cut one tsp of cinnamon and cut a 1/4 of Oatmeal. I will absolutely make it again. My suggestion is too add things in slowly until you find the sweet spot, lol! Good job guys and keep the recipies coming!

    This looks soooooo good! To be honest I usually avoid date recipes because we live in the middle of nowhere and dates are exPENsiveeee.
    I love their flavor though, and all the things you can do with them. When I was younger I remember I would blend up raisins to use as a substitute in recipes that called for dates. That is, until my mom found out and told me that raisins were expensive too!

    Okay Jen, this is a seriously good smoothie. I have never tried the natural dates that you recommend to use. I made mine with a Costco Organic Date brand and it was crazy good and it does definitely satisfy any cinnamon bun craving you might have.     This was way yummier than I expected!! I was looking for an afternoon snack that would fit with a super rainy afternoon when I received the email about this smoothie.     Just made this and it’s super tasty! It was a pretty thin smoothie, and i prefer thicker smoothies and ended up adding 6 ice cubes. It was still pretty thin, but I enjoyed it for it’s flavor!
