Where do I start with this Tropical Turmeric Cleanser Green Smoothie?! It’s such a good one to help with inflammation! Our bodies do a pretty great job of detoxifying thanks to our livers. But it never hurts to help out by including foods that naturally detoxify our bodies. In this smoothie, you will find some powerhouse ingredients to help your body be its best.

The health benefits of kale

Kale is a great detoxifier, as are all cruciferous veggies. The glucosinolates in kale form isothiocyanates (ITCs) which help regulate detox activities in our cells. When you add kale to your green smoothies, you’re also adding great anti-inflammatory, antioxidants, and anti-cancer benefits into your day.

Kale also has heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids which help fight cardiovascular disease. Is there anything kale can’t do for our health? To sweeten things up (kale can be a little strong if you’re not used to blending with it) we’ve added pineapple and mango with their loads of dietary fiber, vitamins A and C, and anti-bloating bromelain (in the pineapple).

Why do we add lemon juice to our turmeric smoothie?

Lemon juice aids the liver in flushing out toxins naturally and acts as a diuretic. Ginger aids in digestion and has numerous anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. Two compounds found in high concentration in ginger, gingerol and shoga, may help the entire digestive tract to relief any discomfort from gas, constipation, diarrhea, and bloating. (Yep, I went there.)

Why add turmeric to a smoothie?

And now we come to turmeric, another natural liver detoxifier. We most often find it in its dried, ground form. It is a root similar to ginger that is common in Asia and Polynesia. It lends a gorgeous yellow color to curries, mustard, and other foods we consume on a normal basis. But adding in a little extra turmeric into your diet adds big benefits. The curcumin in turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory and has been used in traditional Eastern medicine for centuries to treat all kinds of maladies.

Description

This green smoothie is loaded with so much goodness it’s worth blending on a regular basis. Kale, lemon, ginger, and turmeric help the body fight inflammation as well as help the liver detox naturally. Mango and pineapple lend sweetness and loads of vitamins A and C. Creamy coconut milk provides healthy fats and helps the body absorb the benefits from the turmeric.


Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh kale
  • 2 cups coconut milk, unsweetend
  • 2 cups pineapple
  • 1 cup mango
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon to 1/2 ground turmeric (to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Blend kale and coconut milk until smooth.
  2. Add remaining ingredients, and blend until smooth. Enjoy!


Notes

*Use at least one frozen fruit to make smoothie cold.

    Good morning! I got started with green smoothies because of your website. I’ve tried several of yours and have a “go-to” of my own that I make several times a week. I am really interested in trying this Tropical Turmeric Cleanser. In reading through some of these comments, I see that fat and pepper are needed in order for the body to absorb the turmeric. I usually add 1/4 of an avocado to my green smoothies…would this be OK in this smoothie with a “lighter” liquid, like almond milk or coconut water?

    That’s totally ok! You’ll still get those healthy fats from the avocado, while reaching for a lower fat liquid base. Never hesitate to change it up! Our recipes are here to inspire you, so do what makes you + your body feel good!

    Thank you so much for this blog and recipes, I’ve fallen inlove with the green smoothie a lot. I just wanna find out when is the right time to take the smoothie and/or how many times a day can I take them?

    YAY! I’m so excited to have you blendin’ with us! You can enjoy your green smoothie any time of day. Personally, I love having my green smoothie is the morning. I feel like it helps me start my day on the right foot, and make better food decisions the rest of the day. Our goal for you is to add one green smoothie to your day in addition to your regular diet – so I usually suggest keeping it to 1-2 smoothies per day.

    Thank you so much for reaching out. We try not to focus too much on the numbers and rather focus on how we’re fueling your body. We’ve found when you fuel your body with fresh fruits and leafy greens, it really does balance out. Of course, we understand that nutritional content can be very important for some people. Two great resources are the app MyFitnessPal and Loseit.com.
