Dragon Fruit Recipe as a Smoothie Bowl

Dragon Fruit Smoothie Bowl with blueberries and blackberries

This dragon fruit recipe is simple to make and sooooo tasty! All you need is a blender, dragon fruit, banana, pineapple and cauliflower. Yep—we’ sneaking in some extra nutrients and creaminess!

My eight-year old daughter Clare and I love to do our nails together. It’s our girl bonding time— we turn on our Taylor Swift playlist, debate about our nail color and chat as we paint away. I paint her left hand and she helps paint my right hand. Life slows down and hearts connect. It’s one of my fav things we do together.

I created this Dragon Fruit Recipe to be a part of our girl time– because true beauty comes from within. It’s how we love ourselves and others. From the foods we put into our bodies to the words we put into our heads— it all matters. I need to make sure she knows that and sees that lived out.

It’s got all this goodness…

Sweet. Tart. Tangy. Refreshing. Energizing. Gorgeous.

This dragon fruit recipe is inspired by my daughter, Clare, because it’s beautiful and sweet. It’s also a bit unique, because dragonfruit is not a staple Simple Green Smoothies ingredient. But I’ve been buying it a lot more since I got a membership to Costco. Try this bowl today!

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 (3.5 ounce) packet frozen dragon fruit puree (pitya)

Random Jen moment: I am not sure why, but I always thought I would be the mom with four sons. Baseball and climbing trees would be in our family DNA. Well, eight years ago, I had my second lil’ baby… and right there in the delivery room we found out we had just welcomed a girl into Team Hansard.

I was in total shock and didn’t know what to name her— we had assumed she would be a boy and we’re gonna name her Sawyer! After two days of “baby girl” we eventually decided on Clare after our Irish heritage. These past 8 years have been amazing —she has brought so much joy and love and spunk into our lives— she was our blessing. Happy birthday Clare Bear!

I would love to make it but I can’t find the dragon fruit puree. How do I do it with the fresh fruit?

    • SGS Rawkstar Jess says:

Hi Morvelle, I would prepare your smoothie bowl the same way but using fresh dragon fruit instead of the frozen puree. Cut the dragon fruit into smaller slices or chunks first, and then cut off the peel.

  2. Dori says:

Can’t wait to make this! I have dragon fruit in my freezer right now My Sprouts had the chunks and purée packs.

  3. Ben Myhre says:

That is a beautiful looking photo!

    • SGS Rawkstar Amanda says:

Thanks for the photo love, Ben! We’re so lucky to have our amazing photographer, Lindsey as part of our team!

  4. nancyF says:

This looks delicious… however, I am worried about the 62 grams of carbs!!! wowza. May have to wait on this one… or take out the banana and 1/2 the dragon fruit and add some greens…

    • SGS Rawkstar Amanda says:

      Hi Nancy,

Thinking about swapping out the banana? Go for it! Some great substitutes are mango, papaya, pears, unsweetened applesauce, nut butters, chia seeds, fresh dates + my personal favorite – AVOCADO!

  5. Kim says:

Definitely have to try this recipe out as soon as possible. Thanks for the share, love checking out your blog.

    Dear Jen!
I love you you’re teaching your daughter life lessons with the help of fruit. Who would have thought a Dragon fruit could teach about beauty, but the more thought I put into it the more sense it makes! A dragon fruit looks fierce and colorful on the exterior-which is how we should be and yet on the inside it has more of a pure and clean vibe to it which is very beautiful to look at. Beauty comes from within and I love your idea!
Although I do have a query. Is the smoothie sweet without any sugar included because of the coconut cream ? Or do you add sugar later if needed to be sweetened?
    XOXO

    • SGS Rawkstar Amanda says:

      Hi Ushmana,

No added sugar needed. The fruit (especially banana) adds plenty of natural sweetness. Want even more sweetness? Some of our favorite natural sweeteners are Medjool dates, honey, and maple syrup and all make a great sweet addition to any green smoothie. Learn more about them here…

Would love to hear from you!

      Hi Ushmana Rai,

I love your take on dragon fruit! Don’t have puree, then definitely use fresh!! I’d reach for fresh too if it was more available here.

  8. Kayla says:

Looks delicious! Where do you buy dragon fruit puree? I doubt any local store in my small town would carry that!

    • SGS Rawkstar Amanda says:

      Hi Kayla,

Dragonfruit is hard to find for me too! But sometimes it’s worth the splurge! I purchase it from Pitaya Plus. Learn more here…
