Are green smoothies really that good for you?
The short answer is yes! Yet, it depends on what you put in them. There are green smoothie recipes all over the Internet right now, toting a healthy label. However, they can be loaded with processed ingredients that ultimately outweigh the benefits. We like to keep our recipes simple—full of the good stuff—so that we can reap all the benefits. Can I get a kale yeah?!
Did you know that green smoothies are an incredible source of fiber? The American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine has found that the typical American diet is lacking fiber, which can lead to Type II Diabetes and hypertension. Drinking just one green smoothie a day can give our bodies the fiber they need to reduced risk of certain types of cancer and have long lasting heart-health.
What are in green smoothie recipes?
We like to follow what we call the 60/40 method: 60% fruits & 40% leafy greens. This balance give us the best of both worlds – a delicious, drinkable smoothie loaded with nutrients. Who wouldn’t want that perfect combo on a daily basis?!
One serving of the perfect green smoothie is:
- Fruit= 1 1/2 cups
- Leafy greens, like spinach or kale= 1 cup
- Liquid, like water or another liquid base= 1 cup
Every ingredient in our smoothies is intentional yet all result in delicious, drinkable creations that make adding into our daily routine a breeze. The fruit + leafy green combinations are endless and that’s why it is SO easy to add in this healthy habit, no matter where you live.
What do green smoothies do for your body?
Made the right way, green smoothies can help lower inflammation, fight sickness, aide in weight-loss, boost iron and detox our bodies. Sound too good to be true? It’s not! We love catering our smoothies to what we need that day. Each of these 7 green smoothie recipes provides a healthy and whole food solution to the question of how to live a healthier lifestyle.

How do you keep green smoothie recipes fresh?
We call green smoothies the healthiest fast food, because they are super easy to prep + blend, then drink right away or pack up for a busy day. Green smoothies are the very best if consumed immediately after blending, since fruits and veggies start to oxidize after 15 minutes, yet we know that doesn’t always happen. You can store your smoothie in an air-tight container (glass jars w/ lids are our fav!), and then refrigerate up to 2 days, or freeze and thaw when ready to consume. You can even turn any of the green smoothie recipes into a popsicle that you + your kids will love!
Prepping green smoothie recipes ahead also makes blending quicker, and helps keep your fruits and veggies from going bad before you can use them.

Day 3 Pineapple Dream Smoothie was really good. Just don’t add more ice if you use frozen fruit!
Day 2 of the 10-day smoothie challenge: I’m having the Pink Flamingo for breakfast. I switched up the liquids to 1/2 cup coconut milk and 1/2 cup coconut water. Love the strawberry taste!
Beginners luck is definitely one of my favorites. It’s my go to on days where I’m not up to trying a new recipe or I simply need a solid smoothie for my tough day ahead. Anytime a coworker asks me if my “weird green smoothie” actually tastes good, I share the BL recipe to get them started.
I kept my recipe cards on my work computer. When I retired I did not get to download them. Can I get them again?
Debra, someone from our Rawkstar Team will be reaching out to you to help you with this.
Debra, reach out to our team at [email protected] and they can help you with those recipe cards!
Found myself feeling in need of some greenness this week so I obviously need to try them all again. I feel so less sluggish when I do a green smoothie every day. I will try the beetroot one I think as I love the versatility of beetroot.
A green smoothie a day really does make you feel so much better!!! It’s crazy how much my body misses it when I take a break for a little bit. So happy you will be getting back into the green smoothies again!!
Yum. I love all of these, but my favorite is still Beginner’s Luck! So rich and creamy. If I’m craving sweet and chocolate, definitely Banana and Chocolate. Tastes like a creamy milkshake. Yum. And, if I’ve overindulged, then I’m swinging for the “cleanser” type smoothies with citrus and ginger and general clean-me-out ingredients.
These recipes are amazing. I’m a mom of three one which is a toddler with a feeding tube. I’m always trying to find ways to incorporate healthy food blends that we all can enjoy but get the nutrition she needs daily. These smoothies have made all the difference.
Definitely trying the fat burning, mostly because grapefruit and pineapple together sound amazing. With all the green smoothies I drink, I have somehow missed that one
#3 Anti inflammatory smoothie, because I need help with the inflamation I have been experiencing
I’m most excited to try #3, the anti-inflammatory smoothie – not just for the flavor, but also for the potential health benefits. I was diagnosed with a muscle-inflammatory disease some years ago. I’ve only now begun to transition to a plant-based diet that will include smoothies. I’m hopeful that these anti-inflammatory foods will alleviate my auto-immune symptoms and I’ll be healthy, feel better, and have more energy.
Thank you so much, Monica!
I’ve made several of these (yum!), but have not made the banana chocolate smoothie, so that’ll be next on my list! I’m excited to make it because I think my kids are going to love it, and any opportunity to get more fruits and veggies in their growing bodies should absolutely be taken
Thank you for all you do, love love love cooking from your books!
Thank you so much, Amy!
I love all the smoothies. I cant make up my mind which one, knowing myself I would try all but the one that is critical at this stage is the Fat Burning Smoothie to get the Summer body ready 🙂
Oooh, these look great! I’ve tried several of them already. Beginners Luck, Fat Burning, Tropical Turmeric and Strawberry Banana…But I’m definitely interested in that peanut butter banana as a decadent treat. I’ll be trying that one soon!
Never tried one with turmeric before, so think will give ;o. 5 ago. They all sound yummy thought. Love my smoothies
The Tropical Turmeric Cleanse Smoothie sounds YUMMY! I love every ingredient in it, even that black pepper to go with the turmeric powder. From my skin issues and feet/legs symptoms, I may have liver issue, like fatty liver. So this smoothie should be so delicious that I can make it a staple smoothie for my liver health. I truly appreciate you sharing all these yummy vegan green smoothies, and encouraging us who are struggling with making the move, the change, and make the transformation of our health.
Thank you so much, Linda!
I’m VERY excited to try the anti-inflammatory smoothie. It looks so great…. I got in a car accident 2+ months ago and still feeling pain and inflammation so I need all the help I can get in that dept.!
Oh I’ve been away on vacation this week with no smoothies and that chocolate banana is going to have to be in my welcome home agenda.
They all sound delicious and simple! I’m most excited to try the Tropical Turmeric Cleanse as the weather warms up here in Australia. Thank you for sharing these recipes and ideas.
I would love to try the anti inflammatory smoothie because I’ve never had such an interesting smoothie with beets, blueberries and coconut oil and I think it really help my health as well as taste delicious or the iron smoothie bowl as I have low iron both sound delicious, thank you. I would love to win the glass jars to keep my smoothies fresh as I make my smoothies the night before and have in the morning on the go to work for my breakfast meal replacement thank you
My favorite smoothie would be #5 Tropical Turmeric Cleansing Smoothie because I have eczema and anything that can help with decreasing inflammation in my body would be helpful with flare ups!
I so need this. Somehow sitting at a desk all and working at a computer for 8 hours have allowed the weight and bad snack habits to creep in.
My entire being is in need of a overhaul, better food choices and delicious and healthy smoothies. All the way in!!!! Can’t wait to try every recipe with the chocolate one leading the pack.

I am most excited about trying #1! I want to get in the smoothie habit, and this super simple recipe might work to get me addicted.
Banana and chocolate, I mean who could resist that awesome combo!!
I haven’t tried the Anti-inflammatory smoothie and I’d love to try it because I have an autoimmune disorder and would think the ingredients would benefit me!! Thank you!
I love beginners luck and so do my grands so I make it quite often.
But I’m excited to try the Banana Chocolate “milkshake”!
So glad I found Simple Green Smoothies!!
As much as I hate grapefruit. I am going to try the fat burning smoothie. It looks delicious as do they all.
I NEED to try the chocolate banana smoothie!! This is my dream combo of sweet and satisfaction. I think my perfect day would start out with the Beginners Luck smoothie(my go to) and end with the Chocolate Banana and drift off into sweet dreams ❤️
Most excited to try the chocolate banana smoothie. Also want to try the iron rich smoothie bowl but honestly, doesn’t look too appetizing.
I’m most excited to try #3, the anti inflammatory smoothie because I’m dealing with inflammation. However, #7, the banana chocolate smoothie is a close second!
I am most excited to try the Tropical Turmeric because although I have been taking turmeric by capsule, I have yet to work it into a smoothie! I LOVE the benefits and look forward to being BRAVE enough to put it in my DAILY green smoothie! (And I LOVE coconut, pineapple, and mango already!)
Right now I’m working my way back through the Autumn 2019 7-day challenge. Once I’m though this I’d like to try the Iron-rich smoothie bowl to switch it up from smoothies to a bowl. Also, it just sounds so nourishing.
I am looking forward to making the iron rich smoothie bowl. I suffer from anemia and would like some of my energy back. The ingredients are things I’ve never tried before but my body is missing them so! Can’t wait!
#3 anti-inflammatory for sure! picking up ingrediants for this one tonight!
