Using Veggies in a Smoothie
First I wanna talk about the cauliflower in the room. If you already read the ingredients for this smoothie and that one threw you off, don’t fear! I know adding cauliflower to fruit smoothies might sound odd, but it is a super mild veggie that adds nutrition + creaminess.
When using frozen cauliflower, I don’t even notice the flavor of it in my smoothie! While using fresh can produce a different taste, this smoothie tastes like bananas and strawberries all the way.
I often throw veggies in my smoothies like carrot, sweet potato, cauliflower, leafy greens, cabbage and celery. They each provide a whole host of health benefits, as well as blend seamlessly into smoothies with a variety of other ingredients.
Try tossing one of these vegetables into your next smoothie, and then let me know how it worked out!
How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
This smoothie is even easier to blend up than a traditional green smoothie, because you don’t need to blend the liquid and leafy greens first. Just toss all the ingredients into your blender and blend! A high-powered blender will break down the chia seeds as well as the strawberry seeds.
Ingredient Swaps
If you want to make this smoothie a little lower in sugar, then swap the measurements for the banana and cauliflower. Using 1/2 a banana and 1 cup of cauliflower will lower the sugar by 5 grams.
Looking for a berry smoothie with no strawberries? Swap in blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, etc to blend up an equally delicious smoothie.
Oat milk, cashew milk, or hemp milk are great stand-ins for the almond milk, as well as refrigerated coconut milk.
If adding cauliflower to this strawberry banana smoothie isn’t possible, then add a half cup of vegan yogurt instead.
Protein boost for smoothies
If I’m blending this smoothie for breakfast, then I want to make sure it has enough protein. I like breakfasts smoothies that keep me full for the morning.
Adding 1 serving of my homemade protein powder will give this strawberry banana smoothie recipe an additional 10 grams of plant-powered protein, as well as 4 grams of healthy fats. That turns this smoothie into long lasting energy without any sugar crash!
Strawberry Banana Smoothie Benefits
Regular consumption of fresh strawberries has been linked to less inflammation and lower risk of heart disease. The antioxidants in strawberries are a great defense against various types of cancer. Cauliflower contains vitamin C, folate, and potassium. It’s definitely not just for looks in this recipe!
Chia seeds are a superfood with protein as well as healthy fat. These tiny seeds gel up when added to liquid, and help thicken a smoothie as well as provide additional nutrition.

I really liked this smoothie.
The banana and strawberry were a great combo.
Cauliflower was a brilliant addition- creamy and filling. Itโs only day 2 and my smoothie repertoire is already expanding.
This is my new favorite! Could not even taste the cauliflower. I did swap the chia seeds with hemp hearts, since chia seeds and I do not get along
Has to make adjustments to this smoothie since I am allergic to strawberries. I used cherries, bananas, almond milk, hemp seed and added oats. Very delicious!!!
Made smoothie according to recipe. Good, but not sure I will be in a hurry to make this one again as I feel it had a LOT of chia seeds in it and flavor was okay, just not spectacular.
I have never made a smoothie with cauliflower. It was delicious!
I loved being able to enjoy the flavor of the strawberries.
Strawberry Banana Smoothie: I must say I have never blended cauliflower in a smoothie before until now, so yummy. I topped it off with slices of strawberries and Hemp Hearts and shared it with my 3 1/2-year-old granddaughter, She said, โgrandma it tastes really good, can I have some more.โ It’s grandma approved and granddaughter approved.
While making the strawberry smoothie, I wasnโt sure if I would like it. Then I tasted it and still was convinced because of look and taste. It wasnโt until lunch time when I tasted it that I actually enjoyed it. Who would have ever thought frozen cauliflower and Chia seeds could compliment a smoothie. The saying is true that looks can be deceiving:). Glad I gave it a try.
This smoothie was good, but not as flavorful as I expected. The bananas smoothed it out, but I didnโt get much of a strawberry taste.
I used fresh cauliflower. I didnโt even taste it.
This smoothie is very creamy, and its really good! Next time, Iโll just add one banana, and add a bit more cauliflower or strawberries.
I used oat milk in the strawberry banana smoothie today. I thought I bought unsweetened almond milk, but when I looked at the carton today I realized I bought the sweetened one by mistake. This recipe was still delicious with the oat milk. I stirred the chia seeds into my glass at the end.
I was surprised by how thick and creamy this was. I think itโs a great option for breakfast or dessert. It is very filling.
Good smoothie! I added the only protein powder I had (my Simple Green order arrived today) which may have influenced the flavorsโpredominately banana and vanilla. I also used milled flax seeds rather than chia seeds. Thick smoothieโflavors blended better after a few hours of refrigeration. Iโm looking forward to using the specified ingredients when I make it again!
I really enjoyed todayโs smoothie (strawberry banana) which is somewhat similar to what Iโve made in the past. I thought I would need to add honey but was surprised that the smoothie is perfect just as is. The homemade protein powder truly made a big difference and is keeping me satisfied. Delicious!
The chia seeds was mushy. Will not be freezing my smoothies no more. Bad idea on my part.
Simply delicious!
