Using Veggies in a Smoothie
First I wanna talk about the cauliflower in the room. If you already read the ingredients for this smoothie and that one threw you off, don’t fear! I know adding cauliflower to fruit smoothies might sound odd, but it is a super mild veggie that adds nutrition + creaminess.
When using frozen cauliflower, I don’t even notice the flavor of it in my smoothie! While using fresh can produce a different taste, this smoothie tastes like bananas and strawberries all the way.
I often throw veggies in my smoothies like carrot, sweet potato, cauliflower, leafy greens, cabbage and celery. They each provide a whole host of health benefits, as well as blend seamlessly into smoothies with a variety of other ingredients.
Try tossing one of these vegetables into your next smoothie, and then let me know how it worked out!
How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
This smoothie is even easier to blend up than a traditional green smoothie, because you don’t need to blend the liquid and leafy greens first. Just toss all the ingredients into your blender and blend! A high-powered blender will break down the chia seeds as well as the strawberry seeds.
Ingredient Swaps
If you want to make this smoothie a little lower in sugar, then swap the measurements for the banana and cauliflower. Using 1/2 a banana and 1 cup of cauliflower will lower the sugar by 5 grams.
Looking for a berry smoothie with no strawberries? Swap in blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, etc to blend up an equally delicious smoothie.
Oat milk, cashew milk, or hemp milk are great stand-ins for the almond milk, as well as refrigerated coconut milk.
If adding cauliflower to this strawberry banana smoothie isn’t possible, then add a half cup of vegan yogurt instead.
Protein boost for smoothies
If I’m blending this smoothie for breakfast, then I want to make sure it has enough protein. I like breakfasts smoothies that keep me full for the morning.
Adding 1 serving of my homemade protein powder will give this strawberry banana smoothie recipe an additional 10 grams of plant-powered protein, as well as 4 grams of healthy fats. That turns this smoothie into long lasting energy without any sugar crash!
Strawberry Banana Smoothie Benefits
Regular consumption of fresh strawberries has been linked to less inflammation and lower risk of heart disease. The antioxidants in strawberries are a great defense against various types of cancer. Cauliflower contains vitamin C, folate, and potassium. It’s definitely not just for looks in this recipe!
Chia seeds are a superfood with protein as well as healthy fat. These tiny seeds gel up when added to liquid, and help thicken a smoothie as well as provide additional nutrition.

This was delicious. I added greens and put in less banana.
I will make it again.
I did not care for the smoothie. Although I like bananas and strawberries it just tasted bland to me and I put everything in it so not sure. Thanks
The hubby and I had his and hers this morning. I added greens, protein and extra water to get it to blend and only uses 1/2 of a banana. It was pretty amazing.
I thought the strawberry banana smoothie did not have much flavor. I did not like it. I added extra almond milk (1/2 cup) as it was not blending very smoothly. I did add the chia seeds.
Surprised it tasted good. A little thicker than I normally make them. Love strawberries. Used multi-colored frozen cauliflower from TraderJoeโs. Enjoying the wonderful texture being produced with my new Vitamix blender.
Wasnโt so sure about this smoothie when I looked at the recipe, but it turned out great! The banana was definitely the star of the show, and honestly if someone else had made it for me I never would have guessed cauliflower was on the ingredient list!
Strawberries and bananas, always a winner! I love the addition of chia seeds, great boost!
Very good, could taste all the flavors but the cauliflower .
Thick, creamy, delicious but mild tasting
Mild and creamy… easy to make and easy to drink!
My two favorite fruit banana and strawberry very good combination cauliflower put the icing on it. Very flavorful
You did I it again! This was a new one for me and it is soooo good.
We like it especially my young kids.
Oh yum! I’ve come to love the green smoothies, so I was a little Leary of the cauliflower. I thought I’d miss the brightness of the greens, but no. This is a creamy, sweet delight.
Was a good smoothie but not my favorite. I thought the banana over powered the taste of the strawberries. It might also have been because you cannot get ripe fresh strawberries at this time where I live. I will try it again and cut down the amount of banana.
Iโve never thought to put cauliflower in a smoothie, but I will do it again in the future! I substituted peaches for the strawberries and added spinach, and that was breakfast! Yum.
I love the Day 2 Smoothie! Frozen bananas & strawberries? Yes please!!!!
I thought this smoothie was ok. I think I am not a fan of cauliflower in smoothies. It gives a weird taste to me. All the other ingredients were good.
Made this today… it was good… I tried unsweetened Hemp Milk instead of Almond milk and I think the Almond milk is better. I never thought of adding cauliflower – it has no taste, so that’s cool and it’s frozen so helps keep the shake cold!
Day#2 Today in Montreal it was โ30C or โ22F for my American friends so it took all my courage to prepare my great cold drink! Hot chocolate would have been more appropriate but when you have a goal set for yourself hahaha So I decided to use Day 2 smoothie as a meal substitute at lunch time so I added one table spoon of proteins. Felt good and light all afternoon (great feeling following the Holidays food excesses). I had a small nuts snack mid afternoon to stop a little bit of craving. โ I’ll definitely try again that smoothie without protein powder which gave it a subtle “earthy taste”.
