Using Veggies in a Smoothie
First I wanna talk about the cauliflower in the room. If you already read the ingredients for this smoothie and that one threw you off, don’t fear! I know adding cauliflower to fruit smoothies might sound odd, but it is a super mild veggie that adds nutrition + creaminess.
When using frozen cauliflower, I don’t even notice the flavor of it in my smoothie! While using fresh can produce a different taste, this smoothie tastes like bananas and strawberries all the way.
I often throw veggies in my smoothies like carrot, sweet potato, cauliflower, leafy greens, cabbage and celery. They each provide a whole host of health benefits, as well as blend seamlessly into smoothies with a variety of other ingredients.
Try tossing one of these vegetables into your next smoothie, and then let me know how it worked out!
How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
This smoothie is even easier to blend up than a traditional green smoothie, because you don’t need to blend the liquid and leafy greens first. Just toss all the ingredients into your blender and blend! A high-powered blender will break down the chia seeds as well as the strawberry seeds.
Ingredient Swaps
If you want to make this smoothie a little lower in sugar, then swap the measurements for the banana and cauliflower. Using 1/2 a banana and 1 cup of cauliflower will lower the sugar by 5 grams.
Looking for a berry smoothie with no strawberries? Swap in blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, etc to blend up an equally delicious smoothie.
Oat milk, cashew milk, or hemp milk are great stand-ins for the almond milk, as well as refrigerated coconut milk.
If adding cauliflower to this strawberry banana smoothie isn’t possible, then add a half cup of vegan yogurt instead.
Protein boost for smoothies
If I’m blending this smoothie for breakfast, then I want to make sure it has enough protein. I like breakfasts smoothies that keep me full for the morning.
Adding 1 serving of my homemade protein powder will give this strawberry banana smoothie recipe an additional 10 grams of plant-powered protein, as well as 4 grams of healthy fats. That turns this smoothie into long lasting energy without any sugar crash!
Strawberry Banana Smoothie Benefits
Regular consumption of fresh strawberries has been linked to less inflammation and lower risk of heart disease. The antioxidants in strawberries are a great defense against various types of cancer. Cauliflower contains vitamin C, folate, and potassium. It’s definitely not just for looks in this recipe!
Chia seeds are a superfood with protein as well as healthy fat. These tiny seeds gel up when added to liquid, and help thicken a smoothie as well as provide additional nutrition.

Dream combo
I liked this smoothie. I didnโt have the frozen cauliflower so I added spinach and it didnโt seem to hurt anything. I like drinking smoothies because they taste like a milkshake.
Wasn’t as flavorful as as day 1, but still a solid option. Cauliflower was an interesting add-in. On to day 3…woohoo
This was very filling for me. The taste was too much of banana. Next time I with use half or one banana.
I use a bit os spinach so I didn’t get the pinkish color.
Overall it was good.
Day one was much tastier
This was good. Cauliflower threw me off. I should’ve added more strawberries to make it a beautiful pink color.
Califlower blended in. One thing I would not do is to freeze chia seeds. They are hard to get out of freezer bags.
This one is definitely my favorite smoothie! Strawberry and banana yummy. My 16yr old daughter loved this one too.
This one had some replacements but was still good.
Surprise! surprise, you canโt taste the cauliflower. This smoothie taste good.
Nice addition of the cauliflower, I couldn’t taste it at all, so that was good. I only used 1 banana and it still was a bit too much for my taste. It still overpowered the strawberries. Next time I’ll use half a banana and increase the amount of strawberries.
Oh my goodness I love it.
Another hit for us! Not only tasty, but knowing it’s good for us inspired us to eat healthy the rest of the day. We didn’t get hungry for hours and had no urge to snack all day. Nothing short of amazing!
Tasted awesome! Next time, I’ll use frozen bananas, as it needed a bit more “icy-ness”.
I couldnโt believe how much I enjoyed this smoothie. Typically strawberry smoothies are not my favorite. I did slightly thaw my strawberries before blending to hopefully have them be more flavorful. I cut back the banana to just one and upped my cauliflower + a splash of vanilla. Oh I almost forgot, I used coconut milk with chia seeds instead of almond milk. It was perfection!
Day 2: Delicious! Only used 1 banana. 1.5 seemed a bit much. Will definitely make this again.
Comments for 1/11/2022 Day 2 Strawberry Banana Smoothie Sadly the bowl fell and the dog got what I didn’t, lol. I only added 4 strawberries, but overall I really enjoyed this smoothie. It was like a dessert shake!
Winter Smoothie Challenge Day 2
This is a delicious smoothie. I added the protein powder, which is really yummy. I did not alter the recipe nor make any substitutions.
All family members love this smoothie and we hope to add it to our regular smoothie rotation, which we hope to make a new family habit this year.
As other Facebook reviewers noted, the banana overpowers the strawberry flavor in these proportions, but itโs still a delicious smoothie. We might make the proportions of strawberry a bit more next time. ๐
Strawberries and Bananas is a classic combination so this smoothie was a winner from the first sip! The sweetness was just right – nothing missing. I liked the addition of cauliflower because of the nutrition it added to my blendโฆan ingredient I never thought about adding. Iโd say this veggie will find itself in another smoothie soon!
