Using Veggies in a Smoothie
First I wanna talk about the cauliflower in the room. If you already read the ingredients for this smoothie and that one threw you off, don’t fear! I know adding cauliflower to fruit smoothies might sound odd, but it is a super mild veggie that adds nutrition + creaminess.
When using frozen cauliflower, I don’t even notice the flavor of it in my smoothie! While using fresh can produce a different taste, this smoothie tastes like bananas and strawberries all the way.
I often throw veggies in my smoothies like carrot, sweet potato, cauliflower, leafy greens, cabbage and celery. They each provide a whole host of health benefits, as well as blend seamlessly into smoothies with a variety of other ingredients.
Try tossing one of these vegetables into your next smoothie, and then let me know how it worked out!
How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
This smoothie is even easier to blend up than a traditional green smoothie, because you don’t need to blend the liquid and leafy greens first. Just toss all the ingredients into your blender and blend! A high-powered blender will break down the chia seeds as well as the strawberry seeds.
Ingredient Swaps
If you want to make this smoothie a little lower in sugar, then swap the measurements for the banana and cauliflower. Using 1/2 a banana and 1 cup of cauliflower will lower the sugar by 5 grams.
Looking for a berry smoothie with no strawberries? Swap in blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, etc to blend up an equally delicious smoothie.
Oat milk, cashew milk, or hemp milk are great stand-ins for the almond milk, as well as refrigerated coconut milk.
If adding cauliflower to this strawberry banana smoothie isn’t possible, then add a half cup of vegan yogurt instead.
Protein boost for smoothies
If I’m blending this smoothie for breakfast, then I want to make sure it has enough protein. I like breakfasts smoothies that keep me full for the morning.
Adding 1 serving of my homemade protein powder will give this strawberry banana smoothie recipe an additional 10 grams of plant-powered protein, as well as 4 grams of healthy fats. That turns this smoothie into long lasting energy without any sugar crash!
Strawberry Banana Smoothie Benefits
Regular consumption of fresh strawberries has been linked to less inflammation and lower risk of heart disease. The antioxidants in strawberries are a great defense against various types of cancer. Cauliflower contains vitamin C, folate, and potassium. It’s definitely not just for looks in this recipe!
Chia seeds are a superfood with protein as well as healthy fat. These tiny seeds gel up when added to liquid, and help thicken a smoothie as well as provide additional nutrition.

This smoothie is a nice healthy twist on a traditional basic strawberry banana smoothie. I was skeptical at first about putting cauliflower in a smoothie, but it’s not noticeable at all!
Since I am not a banana fan I subbed mango for the banana. Can’t taste the cauliflower at all. I love the idea of adding veggies to my fruit smoothie and it’s does not impact the color or the taste. I like it almost as much as day 1, beginners luck smoothie.
I enjoyed this recipe. I made it exactly as the recipe called for. I used strawberries from my garden that I had frozen, they were extra sweet this year, very yummy!
This was very good, but i am finding that these smoothies need more liquid to blend properly. Way too thick.
Sometime the blender does not blend well
There are thick pieces
Need to blend more and then it comes out very well and delicious and nourishing
This is the first time I tried this recipe. Such a wonderful thing – to hide cauliflower in here for the kids. You honestly cannot taste it at all! I felt great giving this to my family for breakfast today, knowing all the nutrients they were getting!! A five star recipe that I will be making on the regular!!
Good flavor…thick smoothie. Thicker than I like it…added water
My smoothie this morning was my pre-workout drink. One and a half bananas is too much for me, I think it overpowered the strawberries. Other than that I liked it, I couldn’t even taste the cauliflower.
Delicious and sweet
I added spinach, hemp seeds, collagen powder, and a bit more almond milk. It’s a tasty smoothie. I think if I made it again I would cut down the banana and strawberry amounts and add more cauliflower.
Holy holy… who knew that cauliflower in a smoothie would taste so delicious. Definitely a repeat recipe
This was so good. I would definitely make it again.
Great it has cauliflower in it – cant really taste it
Day 2
Strawberry Banana Smoothie
Another win! I love this combination. I was a little curious about how the cauliflower would taste. Couldn’t taste it at all. Followed the recipe except for adding flaxseed. Super yummy!!
Day 2 Challenge of the Strawberry Banana smoothie is delicious and tangy because I used the yogurt instead of cauliflower. (I put cauliflower in my daily salads, so I get a lot of it.) I also added some cilantro to get some actual greens in my smoothie.
This was super yummy. I can’t get over how creamy the cauliflower makes it without any cauliflower taste at all.
One of my favorites!
Love this recipe – very creamy and not too sweet.
This is another one of my favorite smoothies. Totally planned to make this one as written….woke up this am craving something refreshing. So swapped out the coconut milk and went with coconut water. Used an orange instead of a banana. Yummmmmm!
