This Strawberry Banana Smoothie is a refreshing, guilt-free treat that supports your healthโ€”and tastes like dessert in a glass. Sweet strawberries, creamy banana, and hidden cauliflower create a luscious, energizing drink packed with fiber, antioxidants, and omega-3s.

Before I lose you, let’s talk about the cauliflower in the room. Don’t fear! This will change your life (and your health!). I’m on a mission to make healthier smoothies that still taste amazing. Adding cauliflower to fruit smoothies adds fiber + extra creaminess and doesn’t ruin the taste. Promise this is a winner (and you’ll never go back to a straight fruit smoothie).

Why This Smoothie Rawks

This Strawberry Banana Smoothie is a delicious way to fuel your body with powerful health benefits.

  • Brain & Heart Support: Get some omega-3s from chia seeds, potassium from bananas and antioxidants from strawberries
  • Sustained Energy & Satiety: Enjoy those natural carbohydrates from banana and strawberries, fiber from chia seeds, banana, and cauliflower and plant-based protein from chia seeds
  • Immunity Boost: Boost your Vitamin C with strawberries and cauliflower and enjoy these antioxidants that help fight inflammation

If your kids are new to the world of smoothies, this is a great starter. Smoothies for kids are typically a bit sweeter yet still full of whole foods that will give them energy and boost their servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Ingredients to make strawberry banana smoothie recipe in blender.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Frozen Strawberries

  • What to buy: Look for unsweetened frozen strawberries in the frozen fruit section. Check the label to make sure no added sugars or syrups are included.
  • Tips: You can also buy fresh strawberries and freeze them yourselfโ€”just wash, hull, and slice before freezing.
  • Storage: Keep in the freezer in an airtight bag or container.

Bananas

  • What to buy: Choose ripe bananas (yellow with a few brown spots). Riper bananas are sweeter and blend better in smoothies.
  • Storage: Store fresh bananas on the counter. Freeze peeled bananas in a sealed bag for smoothie prep.

Unsweetened Almond Milk

  • What to buy: Choose unsweetened almond milk for lower sugar. Any non-dairy milk like oat, soy, cashew, or coconut milk will work.
  • Tips: Look for options with added calcium and vitamin D for extra nutrients or make your own homemade almond milk.
  • Storage: Refrigerated cartons usually last 7โ€“10 days after opening. Shelf-stable options can be kept unopened in the pantry.

Cauliflower

  • What to buy: Look for frozen riced cauliflower or frozen floretsโ€”riced blends more easily. Fresh cauliflower also works, but it will alter the flavor (and not in a good way).
  • Tips: You wonโ€™t taste it in the smoothie, but it adds fiber and nutrients. Great hidden veggie!
  • Storage: Store in the freezer and use as neededโ€”no need to thaw.

Chia Seeds

  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container in a cool, dark place or the fridge to maintain freshness.
  • What to buy: Find chia seeds in the baking aisle, health food section, or bulk bins.
  • Tips: Black or white chia seeds are both fineโ€”thereโ€™s no nutritional difference. These add omega-3s, fiber, and protein.

Protein Smoothie Boost

Adding 1 serving of my homemade protein powder will give this strawberry banana smoothie recipe an additional 10+ grams of plant-powered protein, as well as 4 grams of healthy fats. That turns this smoothie into long lasting energy without any sugar crash!

How to Make Strawberry Banana Smoothie

This smoothie is even easier to blend up than a traditional green smoothie, because you don’t need to blend the liquid and leafy greens first. Just toss all the ingredients into your blender and blend! A high-powered blender will break down the chia seeds as well as the strawberry seeds.

  1. Prep Your Ingredients
    • Peel and slice the bananas if theyโ€™re not already sliced.
    • Measure out frozen strawberries and cauliflower. (No need to thaw!)
    • Give your chia seeds a quick stir to break up any clumps.
  2. Add to Blender in This Order
    • Almond milk first (helps everything blend more easily).
    • Then add banana, cauliflower, strawberries, and chia seeds.
  3. Blend Like a Rawkstar
    • Start on low speed and gradually increase to high.
    • Blend for about 45โ€“60 seconds, or until completely smooth and creamy.
    • If the smoothie is too thick, add a bit more almond milk (1โ€“2 tablespoons at a time) and blend again.
  4. Taste and Adjust
    • Want it sweeter? Add a small drizzle of maple syrup or an extra ยฝ banana.
    • Prefer it colder or thicker? Toss in a few ice cubes and re-blend.
  5. Serve
    • Pour into a glass or smoothie jar.
    • Optional: Top with a sprinkle of chia seeds, sliced banana, or a few extra berries for a beautiful finish.

Smoothie Storage Tip

Drink immediately for the best texture and flavor. Or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hoursโ€”just give it a good shake or stir before drinking!

I was really wondering about the cauliflower taste in this smoothie but it was fantastic!!!

I really like the smooth and creamy texture of this smoothie. It has a very subtle taste. I subbed the almond milk out for Flax. I usually use a juice base for all of my smoothies so the milk (and the cauliflower) was interesting. Next time I will use riper bananas to sweeten it up a bit. Also will use black chia seeds vs white next time for color contrast!

    1. Iโ€™ve been having your smoothies for my breakfast ever since the Winter Challenge. Iโ€™ve never tried this one before and this was sooo good. I now have a new one to incorporate into my daily breakfast Smoothie routine.

Very good! Can’t taste the cauliflower for those who don’t like it. Great way to get in the veggies!

Delicious! You can never go wrong with strawberries and banana. This is a first time Iโ€™ve used cauliflower in a smoothie. I never would have thought to do that. Doesnโ€™t change the flavor just gives the added health benefits.

Creamy goodness with the hidden cauliflower. Was skeptical about it but couldnโ€™t taste it at all. I added a cup of greens and a bit more almond milk.

    Day 2
The smoothie was very good. It was pretty thick so I added a little extra almond milk. I used frozen bananas so that may have been why it was thick. Anyways, loved it could not taste the cauliflower.

Sorry…I’m not loving these smoothies. Does flax seed and/or protein powder change the taste? (I added 1 T. ground flax seed & 1/2 T. protein powder.) I feel like the smoothies I made in the past with just banana, strawberry, a splash of almond milk, and a spoonful of yogurt tasted much better. I do like though, that cauliflower is an added veggie to this smoothie.

The protein powder probably is altering the taste a bit. I stopped putting it in smoothies, I opt for organic hemp hearts now for my protein. (I didnโ€™t use any for this smoothie though)

    2. Hi Rosie! Yes, flaxseed and/or protein powder can def change the taste of a smoothie. If you’re finding the taste a little much at first, you can increase the amount of fruit (i.e. sweetness) to make it easier to sip. Then gradually reduce the fruit back to the original recipe amount over time and voila! You’ll be used to flaxseed and protein powder in your smoothies. We love homemade protein powder in these cases, since it doesn’t have any weird gums or fillers like other powders do. It cuts out any funky taste. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I’ve made strawberry banana smoothies in the past, but not with cauliflower. This smoothie was quite tasty!

Great smoothie! Not overly sweet but the strawberry still comes through as a hint of sweetness. There’s an added flavor component from the cauliflower, but if I didn’t know it was in there, I wouldn’t have guessed that as the flavor. I gave some extra I had to my daughter and told her it was a strawberry banana smoothie, wondering if she’d taste it and ask me what else was in it, but she never did and drank it all!

So yummy – would never have thought of cauliflower in a smoothie. Great way to get it into the kids!

Not my favorite. I used frozen bananas though, which made it very thick. I ate it with a spoon. If I try it again, I won’t use frozen bananas.
