Apple Pie Smoothie Ingredients
- Rolled oats: I always use oats in apple pie, so why not in an apple pie smoothie?!
- Medjool dates: Adds hints of caramel and additional fiber, making it one of my favorite natural sweeteners to use in smoothies.
- Spinach: A mild leafy green vegetable adds fiber… and you don’t even taste it in this beverage.
- Oat milk: I love that oat milk is light and nutty, adding another level of flavor. Feel free to swap with any non-dairy milk of your choice. If you want to make a warm smoothie, heat the oat milk before blending (or use soup mode) on your blender.
- Apple: Choose the apple variety of your choice. I love tart Granny Smith apples or bright Honey Crisp for this smoothie.
- Cinnamon: This spice brings a lovely hit of spice that is typical to apple pie.
- Nutmeg: Add a warming spice like nutmeg for the final touch. Just remember, a little goes a long way!
- Collagen peptides: I’ve been adding collagen peptides to most of my smoothies to boost protein and support skin health as I get older.

How to Make Apple Pie Smoothie
- Add almond milk, dates and oats to the blender. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes to soften both the dates and the oats. This will aid in the blending process.
- If you’re using a standard blender, blend the contents of your blender. It should have an oatmeal texture at this point, and give the dates a little extra time to break down.
- Add the remaining ingredients and blend again until smooth.
Tips for Blending Apples in Smoothies
- Use green apples to keep smoothies less sweet, but any apple variety works.
- Apples are a great option if you usually make tropical smoothies—their flavor is subtle and surprisingly delicious.
- Apples can make smoothies gritty if they aren’t blended well. If you don’t have one of my recommended blenders for smoothies, peel, core and chop the apple before blending. Blend longer than usual to achieve a smooth, creamy texture.
- If apples aren’t your favorite, swap them for pears, which are softer and blend more smoothly.

Leave a review for a chance to win signed copies of my cookbooks!Yes! If you have a high-powered blender, you can just toss a washed apple right in. If not, then peel and slice it to remove the core and skin as that will help your blender blend better.
Yes! My smoothie is packed with whole food ingredients like spinach, dates, fresh apples, oats and spices for a fiber-packed, delicious snack.
I like using green apples since they are slightly lower in natural sugar and more tart, yet you can really use any kind of apple you wish. If one apple smoothie isn’t your fav, try another with a different kind of apple! You might be surprised.

I made this recipe and it is delicious! I substituted oat milk for almond milk and instead of nutmeg I used cloves. It tastes like apple pie for sure. Thank you so much for creating warm smoothies! This is just what I needed to keep up my goal of eating 5 fruits/veg per day hrough the colder months! I doubled the recipe (2 apples, 2 c. spinach) and sip on this throughout the morning from my tumbler.
Thanks so much for trying it, Danisha. I love that you’re finding ways to take care of you, and in a tasty way!
Hit the spot during freezing weather
Delicious! A warm, nutritious treat on a cold day
Oh my goodness I am smitten by this delicious smoothie and can see it sustaining me through the winter – thank you so much
So glad you love it Mary!
Wow this sounds tasty! Do you have a certain type of apple you recommend?
Sounds delicious! Love making your smoothies. Can I add chia seeds to all my smoothies? If so how to do it? Can I just pour them in blender? Do I need to do something with them before I add?
Also, Can I use frozen spinach?
Thanks
The recipe says it yields one smoothie, but in one of the comments you say it yields two smoothies. Which is correct?
Hey Kate- We used to list the smoothie ingredient amounts for two servings but have recently changed it so our recipes now make one serving. The recipe is correct and the comment is outdated. 🙂
Hi, I haven’t tried this recipe yet. I am a little concerned about using hot water in a blender as some blender guides don’t allow it. Is there another way around it?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hi Titi,
Love your question! And yes, some blenders are made for blending hot liquids and some aren’t. If you have a blender, that is not ok to blend in when dealing with heat or steam, you can always heat this smoothie on your stovetop after blending everything together.
Blenders not to use are personal sized blenders, that don’t have anywhere for steam to escape. Other blenders, you can remove the center portion + place a tea towel on top while blending. This prevents splatters + allows steam to escape.
Hope this helps! 🙂
Hello, I have two questions please ..how many does the apple smoothie feed and can I make this in my old George Foreman Mix N Go….in which I have been making green smoothies with kale and spinach from my garden for many years. I presume I will have to heat the made smoothie in the microwave. …thanks, Bev
Hi Bev,
Thanks for blendin’ with us! This smoothie makes 2 servings! And yes, you can totally make this recipe in your Mix N’ Go. Based on the container size, you may find that you need to halve our recipe + add a little extra liquid base to ensure everything blends smoothly. Also, because the Mix N’ Go doesn’t have anywhere to vent steam – make sure + heat your smoothie after blending.
what are metjumol dates?
Hi Pat!
Medjool dates are just a variety of date :). We love them because they’re super sweet and are found at most grocery stores!
Can I leave the cinnamon out of it? I recently found out that smoothies exist and I must say that I love them!!
Hope to hear from you. Thanks.
Emma
Hi Emma,
Of course! We love our recipes the way they are, but please don’t feel like you need to follow them to a T. See them as a simple guide and adjust them to your liking!
