5 Watermelon Smoothie Tips

  1. Since watermelon is over 90% water by weight, you donโ€™t need to add any extra liquid or ice to this smoothie.
  2. Use seedless watermelon for this recipe. No need to spend all day picking out watermelon seeds!
  3. Using frozen cherries and frozen strawberries rather than fresh ones yields a cool and frosty drink. If using fresh, add ice cubes to the blender.
  4. Serve this smoothie immediately after making it. The longer it sits, the more the watermelon separates from the other ingredients.
  5. Want popsicles? Freeze the smoothie in freezer pop molds to make homemade popsicles for the kids.

Health Benefits of a Summer Smoothie

Summer is overflowing with nutrient-dense produce. Take advantage of these ruby red, antioxidant-rich ingredients!

Watermelon

Watermelon has high water content, so itโ€™s the perfect fruit for hydration. All that water doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s lacking in powerful antioxidants. Watermelon actually has about 40% more lycopene than raw tomatoes. Lycopene can help curb your risk of cancer and heart disease as well as offers some protective effects against damaging UV rays.

Strawberries

Strawberries add filling fiber to this watermelon smoothie as well as vitamin C and other beneficial antioxidants. Blood sugar regulation, reducing heart disease risk and boosting immunity are just some of the health benefits of adding strawberries to your diet.

Cherries

Cherries are also high in fiber and loaded with antioxidants. These powerful antioxidants may protect against cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes as well as Alzheimerโ€™s. Anti-inflammatory compounds in cherries may help reduce muscle pain and damage.

Watermelon Smoothie FAQs

What fruit mixes well with watermelon?

My watermelon smoothie blends cherries, watermelon, strawberries and lime. It’s super refreshing and antioxidant-loaded!

Is it okay to blend watermelon?

Yes! When using any kind of melon in a smoothie, I cut back on the amount of liquid. Watermelon contains enough water on its own that you don’t need any more liquid. Also, don’t forget to remove the seeds!

Can I freeze watermelon?

Watermelon acts as both the liquid and fruit in a smoothie. If you freeze the watermelon, be sure to add extra liquid to help it blend well.

I always have frozen berries and chia seeds around, so this was a sweet twist on a recipe I already love.

    1. OMG that is one of my favorites. Very refreshing cherries add a nice tartness to watermelon freshness.

Delicious and refreshing for this warm day. We used the cherries our strawberries are gone because they are farmers market strawberries. The taste of cherries was a good balance of sweetness with the refreshing g yellow watermelon.

    I love watermelon
Adding the cherries and strawberries seemed to give a depth to the flavor while letting the watermelon be the star
I did add some mint, chia seeds and vanilla protein powder to make it a meal
I will be making a lot of these this summer!

I liked the tartness of the cherries. I poured most of the mis into popsicle mold for the grands. I drank a small amount with ground flaxseed on top, another hit smoothie recipe!

Delicious and fruity sweet. More suitable for a quencher on a hot afternoon than a breakfast smoothie.

I am always cautious that these fruitie smoothies will be to sweet, but as always this is a delicious blend. Another to add to my rotation!

  7. This was so refreshing and delicious. A perfect summer drink. I used frozen watermelon so had to add quite a bit of water to get it to blend properly which made it thinner than intended (closer to a watermelon juice) but I found it to be even more refreshing that way.

It’s pretty-I tasted it and put it back in the vitamix, hemp seeds -I don’t use protein mix-lots in those I prefer to skip. And many greens and it was wonderful-yours is a great mix of fruit

Wow! If summer had a flavor, it would be this smoothie! It’s refreshing, tasty, and gave me so much energy. This would be great by the pool or at the beach.

Tasty. I doubled the strawberries and used fresh, not frozen. Next time I’ll squeeze the lime rather than peel. It didn’t blend well.
