Why You’ll Love It
Summer is overflowing with nutrient-dense produce. Take advantage of these ruby red, antioxidant-rich ingredients!
- Ready in 5 minutes. Toss everything in the blender, hit blend, and you’re sipping a refreshing smoothie in less time than it takes to slice the fruit. You can also check out my recommended smoothie blenders for the creamiest results.
- Peak summer produce. Juicy watermelon, ripe strawberries, and sweet cherries shine when they’re in season, giving this smoothie bright flavor and natural sweetness without added sugar.
- Hydrating and refreshing. Watermelon’s high water content helps support hydration, while lime adds a crisp, citrusy finish that keeps each sip light and energizing.
- Packed with real benefits. Strawberries and cherries bring fiber and antioxidants for heart and immune support, while watermelon delivers lycopene, a powerful antioxidant linked to heart health and cellular protection.

Watermelon Smoothie Ingredients
- Watermelon (fresh, chopped). Choose a heavy melon with a creamy yellow field spot for the sweetest flavor. Seedless makes prep quicker, but either works. This is how I cut melon.
- Strawberries (fresh or frozen). Look for bright red berries with green tops and no white shoulders. If using fresh, freeze extras at peak ripeness for future smoothies, or portion them into frozen meal prep smoothie packs so they’re ready to blend anytime.
- Cherries (fresh or frozen). Deep red cherries are usually the sweetest and richest in antioxidants. If buying fresh, pit and freeze them on a sheet pan so they’re ready to blend.
- Lime (fresh, peeled). Pick a lime that feels heavy for its size and has a slight give when squeezed. This usually means it’s juicier and more flavorful.

How to Make a Watermelon Smoothie
- Add ingredients to the blender. Place the chopped watermelon, frozen strawberries, frozen cherries, peeled lime, plant-based protein powder (if using), and chia seeds into a high-speed blender.
- Blend until smooth. Blend on high until the smoothie is completely smooth and creamy. Add a splash of water if needed to help it blend.
- Serve and enjoy. Pour into glasses and sprinkle extra chia seeds on top, if desired. Sip right away for the freshest flavor and best texture.

Recipe Tips
- Since watermelon is over 90% water by weight, you don’t need to add any extra liquid or ice to this smoothie.
- Use seedless watermelon for this recipe. No need to spend all day picking out watermelon seeds!
- Using frozen cherries and frozen strawberries rather than fresh ones yields a cool and frosty drink. If using fresh, add ice cubes to the blender.
- Serve this smoothie immediately after making it. The longer it sits, the more the watermelon separates from the other ingredients.

Notes
- Use seedless watermelon if you don’t have time to pick out the seeds before blending.
- If using frozen watermelon, thaw ahead of time or add 1/2 cup liquid to help it blend well.
- To lower the natural sugar, swap the cherries out for blueberries or raspberries, or add in homemade protein powder to help your body process the natural sugar.
- Feel free to add any of these low sugar fruits to change up the flavor and make it your own.

Yes! When using any kind of melon in a smoothie, I cut back on the amount of liquid. Watermelon contains enough water on its own that you don’t need any more liquid. Also, don’t forget to remove the seeds!
Watermelon acts as both the liquid and fruit in a smoothie. If you freeze the watermelon, be sure to add extra liquid to help it blend well.

Fantastic! Perfectly balanced; I loved it. This will be a regular in my house.
Loved the recipe!! Very refreshing.
Yummy! Sweet change with only fruit, so enjoyed as an evening treat. Might have been a little low on flavour because I used all frozen watermelon and berries, so had to add water to be able to blend. However, I still really liked how refreshing this tasted! Would add spinach another time to have for breakfast.
I knew this one would be good. Refreshing and thirst quenching. I didn’t have frozen cherries but I did have fresh. No lime but I had packet of True Lime. Cherries, watermelon and strawberries oh my. Added ice to thicken it up and threw in some chia seeds. I usually add my vanilla protein powder but held off so it wouldn’t tweak the flavor too much. I will make this one again.
This smoothing was delicious in 93 degree weather. I love the twist of the lime in it. I definitely will make this one again.
Love the combination of flavors in this recipe. Very refreshing!
This recipe is very refreshing. I love it.
Refreshing
I used fresh rather than frozen fruit. I liked it, but would cut back on the lime next time.
Really refreshing smoothie. Summertime in a glass. Taste like something I’ve had on a cruise ship.
I really enjoyed this refreshing watermelon and strawberry smoothie with a hint of lime.
It hit the right spot after walking my dogs in this hot Texas weather!
This tasted sooo good. I doubled for two and added 2 Tbs. Chia seeds for protein and a couple spoonfuls of pomegranate seeds. Awesome!
This was very refreshing especially since it’s over a 100 degrees here in Phoenix. It was perfect.
I love this ! I love how refreshing this smoothie was! So easy to make and will definitely keep making this!
Refreshing and thirst quenching.
Sweet and refreshing. My teenagers love it too!
Yum! I added a scoop of SGS protein and a scoop of collagen since I was heading to a long shift at work. It was sweet but not too sweet for me and is one that I will definitely make again.
Great job adding in some homemade protein powder to make this smoothie a meal replacement, Karin! You RAWK!
I usually do not like watermelon but this smoothie was fabulous! Even my husband liked the smoothie. This will definitely be added to my favorites list.
Thanks for the recipe. I thought it was a little tart…next time I’d try 1/4 of a lime instead of 1/2 a lime.
Oh my gosh! This I loved!!! It is such a fun and refreshing drink! I will definitely make this over the summer. Thank you!
