5 Watermelon Smoothie Tips
- Since watermelon is over 90% water by weight, you donโt need to add any extra liquid or ice to this smoothie.
- Use seedless watermelon for this recipe. No need to spend all day picking out watermelon seeds!
- Using frozen cherries and frozen strawberries rather than fresh ones yields a cool and frosty drink. If using fresh, add ice cubes to the blender.
- Serve this smoothie immediately after making it. The longer it sits, the more the watermelon separates from the other ingredients.
- Want popsicles? Freeze the smoothie in freezer pop molds to make homemade popsicles for the kids.
Health Benefits of a Summer Smoothie
Summer is overflowing with nutrient-dense produce. Take advantage of these ruby red, antioxidant-rich ingredients!
Watermelon
Watermelon has high water content, so itโs the perfect fruit for hydration. All that water doesnโt mean itโs lacking in powerful antioxidants. Watermelon actually has about 40% more lycopene than raw tomatoes. Lycopene can help curb your risk of cancer and heart disease as well as offers some protective effects against damaging UV rays.
Strawberries
Strawberries add filling fiber to this watermelon smoothie as well as vitamin C and other beneficial antioxidants. Blood sugar regulation, reducing heart disease risk and boosting immunity are just some of the health benefits of adding strawberries to your diet.
Cherries
Cherries are also high in fiber and loaded with antioxidants. These powerful antioxidants may protect against cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes as well as Alzheimerโs. Anti-inflammatory compounds in cherries may help reduce muscle pain and damage.
Watermelon Smoothie FAQs
My watermelon smoothie blends cherries, watermelon, strawberries and lime. It’s super refreshing and antioxidant-loaded!
Yes! When using any kind of melon in a smoothie, I cut back on the amount of liquid. Watermelon contains enough water on its own that you don’t need any more liquid. Also, don’t forget to remove the seeds!
Watermelon acts as both the liquid and fruit in a smoothie. If you freeze the watermelon, be sure to add extra liquid to help it blend well.

Great! I will be making this AGAIN!!!! Very refreshing! Easy after I cut up the watermelon… other ingredients were already in my freezer and ready to go … not too sweet … just right. Quenched my thirst! Thank you for this recipe!!!!
Iโve had this smoothie twice already and I am addicted!
I loved the watermelon smoothie!!!
Watermelon Smoothie is a very refreshing drink. I love the hint of lime that kicks the sweet taste up a notch.
I substituted Raspberries for the Strawberries & added a 1/4 tsp of Chia Seeds.
Very delicious. Only think was I froze all the fruit, so it was difficult to blend. Next time will take out frozen fruit an hour before. Otherwise great recipe.
This is a hit. I was surprised to see lime, but it brings out the flavors especially with the watermelon. Itโs a keeper!
This was very good. It would also make popsicles.
It was very sour. I followed the directions and used a small lime.
Summer Watermelon Smoothie sounds refreshing but, sadly, I have tummy issues with watermelon and had to substitute with something else. So I used pears! It was lovely!
Great choice for a substitute, Jan!
Watermelon smoothie was pretty good my blender doesn’t blend as smooth as I would like but the flavor was refreshing…could see having this on a hot summer day
Tasted like a slushie loved it!
This smoothie is delicious and I would definitely enjoy it in the morning or afternoon. The fruits blend so well together for a great flavor and it is really refreshing. Easy to make and a great treat during the day.
So refreshing!
This smoothie was sweeter and more refreshing than yesterdays! No honey required. Hubby approved. Tho I have to admit I don’t know how to peel a lime without making a mess!
Really tasty and refreshing. I liked the hint of lime.
Who doesnโt love watermelon?? This was a great mouth bomb smoothie with combined flavors that pair well together. I could even see some ginger in this. Cherry and strawberry are beautiful with watermelon. since anytime I blend watermelon I always add a little blueberry for some extra Goodness. Since I was using my Vitamix I added a little bit of the lime rind. I was worried that adding proteins powder would dry it up a little iโll make it taste a little chalky, but it seem to be OK. I did use a Little Bit Of watermelon juice to help.
Watermelon is my favorite, so I was excited to try this recipe! It was delicious and very refreshing!
I was a little worried that the lime would ruin the flavor but I was completely wrong. The lime gave the smoothie a great tangy taste which made the smoothie very refreshing! Solid 4/5!!
