Why You’ll Love It
Summer is overflowing with nutrient-dense produce. Take advantage of these ruby red, antioxidant-rich ingredients!
- Ready in 5 minutes. Toss everything in the blender, hit blend, and you’re sipping a refreshing smoothie in less time than it takes to slice the fruit.
- Peak summer produce. Juicy watermelon, ripe strawberries, and sweet cherries shine when they’re in season, giving this smoothie bright flavor and natural sweetness without added sugar.
- Hydrating and refreshing. Watermelon’s high water content helps support hydration, while lime adds a crisp, citrusy finish that keeps each sip light and energizing.
- Packed with real benefits. Strawberries and cherries bring fiber and antioxidants for heart and immune support, while watermelon delivers lycopene, a powerful antioxidant linked to heart health and cellular protection.

Watermelon Smoothie Ingredients
- Watermelon (fresh, chopped). Choose a heavy melon with a creamy yellow field spot for the sweetest flavor. Seedless makes prep quicker, but either works.
- Strawberries (fresh or frozen). Look for bright red berries with green tops and no white shoulders. If using fresh, freeze extras at peak ripeness for future smoothies.
- Cherries (fresh or frozen). Deep red cherries are usually the sweetest and richest in antioxidants. If buying fresh, pit and freeze them on a sheet pan so they’re ready to blend.
- Lime (fresh, peeled). Pick a lime that feels heavy for its size and has a slight give when squeezed. This usually means it’s juicier and more flavorful.

How to Make a Watermelon Smoothie
- Add ingredients to the blender. Place the chopped watermelon, frozen strawberries, frozen cherries, peeled lime, protein powder (if using), and chia seeds into a high-speed blender.
- Blend until smooth. Blend on high until the smoothie is completely smooth and creamy. Add a splash of water if needed to help it blend.
- Serve and enjoy. Pour into glasses and sprinkle extra chia seeds on top, if desired. Sip right away for the freshest flavor and best texture.

Recipe Tips
- Since watermelon is over 90% water by weight, you don’t need to add any extra liquid or ice to this smoothie.
- Use seedless watermelon for this recipe. No need to spend all day picking out watermelon seeds!
- Using frozen cherries and frozen strawberries rather than fresh ones yields a cool and frosty drink. If using fresh, add ice cubes to the blender.
- Serve this smoothie immediately after making it. The longer it sits, the more the watermelon separates from the other ingredients.

Notes
- Use seedless watermelon if you don’t have time to pick out the seeds before blending.
- If using frozen watermelon, thaw ahead of time or add 1/2 cup liquid to help it blend well.
- To lower the natural sugar, swap the cherries out for blueberries or raspberries, or add in a plant based protein powder to help your body process the natural sugar.

Yes! When using any kind of melon in a smoothie, I cut back on the amount of liquid. Watermelon contains enough water on its own that you don’t need any more liquid. Also, don’t forget to remove the seeds!
Watermelon acts as both the liquid and fruit in a smoothie. If you freeze the watermelon, be sure to add extra liquid to help it blend well.

You can’t go to wrong with this!! Flavours are delicious. A new favourite
I think the lime in this smoothie makes it a bit too tart. Next time I think I’d use only 1/4 of a lime. But taste overall is pretty good!
A refreshing smoothie! I added mint and wish I hadn’t. This smoothie had all the flavor it needed.
Very delicious! So sweet and refreshing. Unfortunately, I spilled some on the counter trying to get my blender lid off lol. Still so I good!!!
I love eating watermelon during the summer, sometimes every day. This is so refreshing first thing in the morning, it’s a keeper!
Very refreshing and filling, taste much better with plant base protein powder.
Love this recipie.
I liked the flavor of this one. Very bright and summary. I may add just the lime juice next time as the pulp from the lime didn’t blend well for me.
I added basil to mine for a refreshing summer drink. The smoothie itself was quite delicious, however it’s very high in sugar. I appreciate the lower sugar substitutes- i think it’s a fun smoothie for one of those “too hot for dinner” days.
Thanks for this recipe. I would never have thought to combine these ingredients. This smoothie is pleasantly refreshing and a great addition to my summer rotation.
I love working cherries into my diet. This is a fun, tasty summer smoothie.
I love watermelon anything!
Very refreshing and delicious. The lime gives it a nice taste that I wasn’t expecting. Absolutely will make it again!
Delicious as is! I have also made something like these into popsicles for my daughter and added a bit of coconut water, she loves them on hot summer days.
Oh wow, what a treat! I’ve been wanting to incorporate more chia seeds into my diet for the fiber, calcium and Omega 3’s, so this may become a staple!
I loved this recipe and see myself drinking it a LOT this week with the 90+ degree temps and high humidity. It definitely was a thirst quencher. I used the whole lime because I didn’t want to put half a lime in the fridge and didn’t have anything else to use it in today since I had to go into the office. Otherwise, I would have used it for my water throughout the day at home. The full lime made it a bit tart but I generally enjoy sweet and sour things so this was spot on for me today. Great recipe. The full lime almost made it taste like sour patch kids which I love but realize they aren’t as healthy since they are almost 100% sugar. This will be a great and healthy alternative when I’m craving some sour patch kids.
This recipe tastes good but the sugar in the watermelon worries me!
I added some Protein powder to help balance my blood sugar. Maybe give that a try?
This was very refreshing. Loved the flavor combination.
