And we promise you they are tasty! We’re here to help show you how to make a green smoothie.

How To Make a Green Smoothie Formula

What the heck is in there?!

That’s always one of the first questions we get when we’re sharing how to make a green smoothie — and its a good one! Well, it’s a pretty simple (and tasty) combo: leafy greens + fruit +  liquid-base … and maybe some fancy superfood toppings. It may seem like a crazy diet fad, but honestly once you try a green smoothie, you’ll most likely become insanely addicted (like us)! And there is nothing better than downing 2 cups of spinach a day in a delightful fashion.

And if you want to get all scientific, dark leafy greens contain: high-quality amino acids, important minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and beneficial phytonutrients. Phytonutrients are plant-based chemicals that support your immune system, improve health and longevity, and may reduce life- threatening diseases. I know that’s a mouthful, so that’s why when you hang out with us, we try to keep the green smoothie lifestyle simple and fun. I think we can both agree fruits and vegetables are good for you.

3. Stay healthy all-year-long. Simple way to boost your immune system when you’re feeling under the weather.

4. Packed with disease-fighting antioxidants. The phytonutrients in leafy greens boost your body’s immune system and keep it functioning properly.

Hi I’m joining you from Ireland! I’m just wondering what a cup is? I’m used to grams or ounces! Can’t wait to get started!

I am loving your easy, very doable base for a green smoothie. I have a question though. I like my greens frozen, how much would you suggest I use then? Thank you!!

    • SGS Rawkstar 3.15.2017 at 3:36 am #

      Hi Ashleigh,

Looking to use frozen greens, just know that 2 cups of fresh greens, equals 1 ½ cups of frozen greens.

Also, have you ever tried freezing your own? It’s our favorite tip for stocking up when your favorites are in season or even better…on sale! Learn more here…

I am using kefir and plain yogurt for protein, and I have tried different fruits. But some smoothies turn bitter before I finish half of my recipe -16 oz. Not sure what’s happening?

    • SGS Rawkstar 3.2.2017 at 4:00 am #

      Hi Karen,

Hmmm…we don’t usually add dairy to our recipes. I’d suggest giving one of our recipes a try without dairy and see if it helps cut down on the bitter flavor. If you still need a protein boost try adding chia seeds, hemp seeds, almond butter or oats!

Hi love green smoothies but heard you should not drink the whole thing at one time, something about your body not being able to absorb all the nutrients at one time. Any truth to this?

    • SGS Rawkstar 2.27.2017 at 4:04 am #

      Hi Lisa,

While we’re not doctors or nutritionist, our goal for you is to add one (16oz) green smoothie to your day in addition to your diet. While we haven’t come across any research suggesting that you shouldn’t drink your smoothie all at once, we don’t see any issue with spacing your smoothie out throughout the day? Go for it!!

Starting tomorrow 10 day detox. Did anyone loose weight. I heard that all the sugar from the fruit causes you to gain weight.

    • SGS Rawkstar 2.16.2017 at 3:47 am #

      Hi Constance,

Kicking off our 10-Day Kickstarter from our book tomorrow? YAY!!

While weight loss isn’t the #1 goal here at Simple Green Smoothies, it can be a happy accident. A great way to use your green smoothie to reach your weight loss goals is to use your smoothie as a meal replacement. We simply suggest adding protein + healthy fats to ensure you’re fueling your body with a complete meal. Learn more about our favorite meal replacement booster combos here…

And worried about the sugar in our recipes?

Each smoothie has 3 cups of fruit in it, and it is recommended that an adult has 1.5 to 2 cups of fruit a day. When you drink 16oz of our green smoothie recipe you will be meeting, or just under your daily intake for fruit. If you feel like that is too much fruit, feel free to do 2 cups of fruit in each smoothie with 3 cups of leafy greens.

      Hope that helps. 🙂

I work outside and would like to make a green smoothie and take it to work with me for lunch time 12:00. How would I keep it for five hours till lunch time?

    • Rebekah 2.12.2017 at 6:59 pm #

Have you tried a Yeti cup? I haven’t experimented yet, but was told they keep drinks really cold as well as hot. Received one for Christmas and need to try this.

    • SGS Rawkstar 2.13.2017 at 3:56 am #

      Hi Darrell,

Any chance you have a cooler? If so, simply keep your smoothie in an airtight container until you’re ready to enjoy + you’re all set! No cooler? You can always try freezing your green smoothie the night before, then take it with you and allow it to thaw until 12. You’ll notice some separation, but that’s completely natural, as our smoothies are free of any yucky additives or stabilizers. Simply give your smoothie a quick shake and you’re ready to go! 🙂

I never thought making a green smoothie would give me so much energy. I have noticed a difference since day one. Since the first time I made a green smoothie I felt like I had enough energy to make it through the day. So I have been addicted ever since. I even have my girlfriend making them because she has noticed the difference in me.

      Hi Jay!

YAY!! Cheers to a rawkin’ energy boost – free of any caffeine! Who would have thought! 🙂

I have done the 7 day cleanse and I did not cheat at all… I am totally exhausted in the mid afternoon to the point of wanting to fall asleep… I can’t do that, I am a driver… help! And what do I do next? I want to continue this program….

    • SGS Rawkstar 1.30.2017 at 4:47 am #

      Hi Heather,

We definitely want to boost your energy, and ensure you’re safe driving. Low on energy may mean your body needs more fuel (in the form of protein). Try adding additional nuts or seeds. My go-to is apples + nut butter. You can also add additional protein to your green smoothie. Check them out here…
