4th of July Healthy Treats

Fourth of July is just a few days away and I’m still trying to figure out exactly what we are doing.

I know a BBQ is a must and so is our slip n slide. As for food— that’s usually up in the air until the last day or so. Well, not this year— I want to have some healthy and easy snacks to go along with this 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge! I spent some time finding some simple and healthy recipes that I could make for our 4th of July bash and I just couldn’t resist sharing them with you too.

The first is this mouth watering Blueberry, Strawberry, and Jicama Salsa. It’s so simple, fresh and the color combination is just perfect. I will be making a big bowl of this to have out with chips.

I want to have a green smoothie station setup to have a refreshing and nutritious afternoon drink and also spread the word about green smoothies. We will have bowls of fresh fruit and mounds of leafy greens for party goers to choose from and add to our trusty Vitamix. To go along with the patriotic theme, we will be using Strawberry, Banana and Blueberry Green Smoothie recipe which happens to be our first green smoothie love.

Rather than using paper cups, I plan on getting out the mason jars and paper straws to top off the look and help everyone keep track of their smoothie creations. I love the tags and twine that they added to these ones. (Once the night it over, I will soak that jars for a while to make sure they come out real clean.)

For this simple treat, cut a watermelon into tiny wedges and insert a popsicle stick in one end. Dessert doesn’t get much healthier and simple than this watermelon treat.

Is the 21-day cleanse recommended for someone with IBD?

This is a definitely a clean eating meal plan. And also a vegan and vegetarian-friendly meal plan. It’s also gluten-free, dairy-free, and no added sugars, or processed foods.

That being said, I would suggest to check with your healthcare provider as to whether this is okay for you. A more individualized meal plan and 1 on 1 consultation may be more appropriate for you.

Unfortunately when we created this cleanse for the general population– it’s extremely difficult to cater it to people with more specific health conditions.

      Thanks for reaching out!

I’m loving the 30-Day Challenge, and have been using my green smoothies as meal replacements. I’ve been needing to get healthy for a while, and have finally started my journey. I assume there’s no such thing as too much when it comes to green smoothies? I’m already starting to feel better than I have in a long time. Thanks for the Challenge, motivation, and encouragement!

We recommend 16 ounces per serving–maybe just a tad more if its a meal replacement. There is no general rule of thumb for how many you can drink in one day because everyone is different. They key is to get a variety of nutrients your body needs, so if you are drinking just green smoothies then try to add a variety of ingredients that incorporate lots of different nutrients!

        That makes sense, thanks!

    Hi Jadah and Jen
I am doing the 30 day green smoothie challenge starting on July 1st, and I am very excited. I eat two meals a day normally. I would like to do both meals as green smoothies. How much should I drink for it to be satisfying and nutritionally sound?

    • Jadah and Jen 7.3.2013 at 9:07 am #

At least 20 ounces, but every person will be different when replacing meals 🙂

    Sounds yummy!

I didn’t do well with keeping up with the April challenge but am really interested in the 21-day cleanse.

With my baby turning a year old this July, it is time to shed the weight and cleanse. I have always wanted to try a cleanse but being a Mommy who nurses/breastfeeds -I am hesitant. However I know I can trust you guys have put something together that will not be extreme and safe/healthy for a Mommy like me who nurses/breastfeeds.

Thanks for sharing all your recipes and inspiring us to be healthy and happy.
