S.P.A. Skin Cleanse Green Smoothie Recipe

green smoothie recipe with avocado, spinach, pineapple and coconut water

The cold winter air can be harsh on the skin— leaving it dry and sensitive. You always hear the words “moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!” Yet it’s not as simple as it sounds. There are actually two parts to moisturizing your skin:

1. External moisturizer (coconut oil is a favorite around here)
2. Internal moisturizer (staying hydrating, consuming healthy fats and foods high in vitamin E)

The SPA Skin Cleanse green smoothie recipe gives you a lot of bang for your blend. Avocado has a significant portion of healthy fats and vitamin E, while the coconut water is like nature’s gatorade, “hydrating and regenerating your tissue.” By gulping natural skin boosting ingredients in this green smoothie and applying external moisturizer, your skin should be glowing in no time.

ingredients

2 cups spinach, fresh
2 cups coconut water
2 cups pineapple
1 avocado

– Serves 2 –

directions

Blend spinach and coconut water until smooth. Next add the remaining fruits and blend again.

* Use at least one frozen fruit to make the green smoothie cold.

Just made this and it was delicious! I usually don’t care for avocado, but I will definitely start buying them for this smoothie. I put Spirutien vanilla protein powder in my second serving. This may become my breakfast meal replacement. Thanks!

I have suffered from acne since I was 10yrs old – (22 yrs later) I am still breaking out but more blackheads and big pores.. will this smoothie help my acne?

Hi Yvette. I can relate a lot to you— I’ve had acne on and off since I was a teenager. I wish I could tell you a 100% solution, but I haven’t found it yet. :) I do know that clean eating and nourishing your body with the proper nutrients does help the skin dramatically. And our green smoothies are part of the clean eating model— so that’s a simple way to change your eating lifestyle. Drinking lots of water, washing your face with a mild cleanser, exfoliating with oatmeal or apple cider vinegar, minimizing makeup use and using moisturizer are all essential parts to clear skin. All of them. :) Yet for me personally, I struggle to keep all my ducks in a row and have the occasional flare up (like right now!). Now back to the question— the SPA Skin Cleanse green smoothie will help moisturize and nourish your skin, but it’s not the solution. Yet the combination of things I listed above are known to help our finicky complexions.

can we use frozen spinach because fresh spinach is not available in our area.

    • Jen H 2.18.2013 at 7:50 am #

Frozen spinach typically has additives and won’t work as well. I think you would enjoy your smoothie much more if you stick with fresh leafy greens like kale, swiss chard, romaine, arugala, brussels sprouts, etc. Spinach is just one of many nutrient packed green smoothie leafy greens. Hope this helps Ansa.

Hi I would like to think about some extra protein, like some form of a powder to add to my smoothies. BUT I would love something gluten/wheat free maybe soy free too.
    Any suggestions??

    • Jen H 2.8.2013 at 1:21 pm #

We love hemp protein powder— it’s plant-based and soy and gluten free. Good stuff! You can get it at Trader Joes or Whole foods…or even online through Amazon. Another way to boost protein is add almonds, almond milk and even almond butter.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have the Hemp powder from TJ’s but I don’t really like the taste. I thought I’d grow to get used to it, tried it for 1 week, but nope, didn’t happen. I have been adding almonds. I was just wondering if I need any other nutrients besides all the goodies in the smoothies.

So I’m kind of freaked out about using avocado in a smoothie. The benefits sounds amazing so I’ll give it a try..

I halved the recipe and made it. Tasted it then added vanilla coconut milk and fresh young coconut meat. Loved it!!! Would have added coconut oil but had some in a smoothie earlier that morning and thought if i added it might be coconut overload.

This was very tasty, I didn’t have coconut water so I added coconut oil, and protein powder so my mix was, spinach, avocado, coconut oil, pineapple, chocolate protein powder, very good, I will get coconut water and make it as the ingredients say, I really don’t like avocados but in this smoothie It will certainly be a staple

I’m happy you were willing to give avocado a try in your smoothie. There are so many good fats in avocado that actually support weight loss, so it’s nice to add in every now and then. :-)

Nice addition with the coconut oil! I don’t think you can ever go wrong with that in a smoothie. So good for you!
